  2. Where is the ramp at Woolimia? Is there a jetty? How far is it from hyams
  3. thanks heaps obey1. First time there- i hope it is worth me dragging my boat down there The ramp at the end of jervis bay road looks a bit short at low tide?
  4. hey all, i am heading down in Feb for my first time to Jervis Bay area for a holiday - staying at Hyams beach. I have been asked to bring my 5.6m stacer runabout down to try and fish / cruise the water ways there. Just wanted advise on where are good ramps to launch my boat in the vacinity of hyams beach? Any bays i can launch into off sand - as i have a 4wd? I know there are marine parks - i am just interested in good ramps to use all tides. I dont usually drive my boat on, i pull it up/winch it up. Thanks heaps
  5. oo nice thanks mike i am in a 560 stacer ocean master - blue canopy. might see you out there
  6. Ladies and gents After 7 weeks and boat on idle - no fishing, and since saturday is posing to be warm i am hitting the harbour (old mans hat, quarantine, colours etc) for a fish. Who has been out lately and can tell me sea temps inshore and offshore? I believe offshore should be around 19-20degress, but what is the approx temp up in middle harbour around clontarf? Any good spots producing fish?
  7. SNAP-ER your boat is like mine, bright as day in the night - but lets hope we dont get hit with a carbon tax for the amount of power we are using from the batteries
  8. hey guys, got back out onto the beautiful harbour early saturday for a fish. ended up with small flatties, snapper and bream - all released to live another 5 years till they are legal. Quarantine station was quiet - not a good bite except for one 35cm rock cod which we kept. Where have you all been going for a fish feed, and what bait you using? I invested in some GULP plastics, and will be trying outside next weekend hopefully for snapper etc. Any spots you can suggest except colours and long reef? I believe there is a reef about 2kms off north head? Any tips will be apprecaited Anth
  9. Hey guys, this winter that passed i was reluctant to fish n freeze, so i opted to finish house maintenance things etc to keep summer free to fish. I am thinking of hitting the harbour this saturday, starting off about 6-6:30am. Now where should i go? I am thinking of hitting quarantine head, old mans hat, and about 2 kms offshore at the little reef there. Not really targeting anything, but would like a feed. I will be armed with garfish, mullet, prawns, squid and pillies - plus yakkas with any luck. Your thoughts on where to go? Also, i have invested in two crab nets after all the fun i had with a mate at the entrance catching blue swimmers n mud crabs. Where would you place them in the harbour for around 3-4hours with a result? I ahve nice smelly bait for them your help is greatly appreciated.. if you are out saturday say gday, im in a stacer560.
  10. Hey guys going up to gold coast this weekend with a group of mates. Any one know of a fishing charter company that is - GOOD. Not one where you go catch flathead and bream. Is it GT season anywhere there? Help please
  11. it is only showing 70knotts.. i heard 300km per hour
  12. loco dave and deek gee talk about not being keen. Every year on australia day i am on the water by 5am, go for a 3 hour fish, then come back and get the misses and friends for a swim. Its only too busy if your lazy.. haha
  13. Weather man is frustrating me today for Australia day forecast. Showing a picture of rain with a lighting strike and grey cloud, then a sun behind it. Now that sounds like 4 seasons in one day to me. Then forecast reads, Becoming cloudy. The chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Light winds tending northeast to southeasterly up to 35 km/h during the afternoon. Now i understand around 3pm wind will change to southerly, and storm cell might hit. But becoming cloudy? From sunny, or overcast? Or average? I am deciding whether to hit the harbour on the boat with friends. Whos going and whos not? Who can read the weather better than me?
  14. myocard, sorry i disagree. How could you not fully insure a boat worth over $20,000? Sure enough, if i had a $4000 tinny not worth it, but $20,000 k for $450 a year cover, its insurance on your money. Not only for theft, what if you have an accident and your boat is totalled?
  15. empty hooks funny you should say that about agreed value and true value at a claim. Who is the insurance company to say your boat is not worth that amount? We can all go on boatsales and say, oh hey there is another stacer 560 for $18k, thats all yours is worth? Bull crap, each boat owner to themself know there boat has added value. like new electrical, lighting, baitboard, gps/sounders, steering, batteries, hatches, carpeting, engine, new canopy, boat covers???? These things do depreciate - sure, but i can look on boat sales, get the same boat as mine for $18-$20k with some solid negotiating, but i can guarantee, it will not come close to how modified my boat is to suit fishing / day out on the water. Thats what i ahte most, cars yeah fair enough, but boats, i am upto my second boat, and i tell you know after the $$$$ i spent to get my rig to how i want it, in the future if someone has done what i have to my boat, i will be more then happy to pay them a bit extra $$$ as i know DIY with new parts can cost thousands. PS - not having a go at you, but we can all hide behind a PDS that they know not many people will read but most importantly, UNDERSTAND it.
  16. tumra / fishon - when rebuild was done, i ran oil injection and 50:1 in the fuel mix. after 20 hours, still applying the above i changed spark plugs. Didnt have to but i did. Only downfal over oiling is you get that carby smoke puff when you start it, and obviously a little more smoke. But never had an issue. Now i will probably just go back to oil injection now that i know it is fixed, but i dont believe it will cause an issue with too much oil. Nick F - a mechanic cannot really determine an alarm sender/sensor failure as the sensor is inside the oil bottle at the bottom. Remeber the electronics can fail / corrode. Best bet is make sure after each trip oil level drops with fuel consumption. When my oil failed, and bare this in mind if you are out on the water and this happens, my engine shut itself down straight away. Because my oil light was not on (as it was broken) i thought it just stauled it as i was travelling under 1500rpms. Then once i re started it i gove it a bit to get going, and again it stauled. I started it again and moved on then within 300m engine blew a cylinder. If i had of thought hard the first time as to why it stauled, and checked oil, i woulda saved the engine. But in saying that mechanic found a handful of faults in the engine that would have come to surface in the future. Now i have brand new compnents, new oil sender, oil bottle, alarms, sensors, carby. Brand new engine and i get 8km more speed.
  17. nick i have a stacer 560, mercury 90hp 2003. It holds 6 adults. Has all the usual goodies as all keen to fishos. all insured for $24k
  18. haha empty hooks, nice answer and makes sense. I hope then, if they make that assessment and you pay a higher premium, a pay out should be within 7 days??? But i just thought, with each year that goes by, no issues, you pay on time, the risk should lower. Two years straight and still the same. But to their credit, they have not reduced my agreed value all along. Car insurers tend to reduce 5-10% per year on agreed values. On that note, i wont question the amount, its under $500. Just wanted your thoughts.
  19. tumra - i double that. Same thing happened on my motor, oil injection blocked, alarm didnt work and bang, engine buggered up. Luckily i found a good hands on mechanic and got me back on the water asap, but cost me some $$$, but i must say it wasnt as bad as i expected with cost and engines looks like new. Now i have a new sensor for the alar, brand new looking and feeling engine, but now premix and use injection as well.
  20. gents and ladies i know this topic has been mentioned a few times, but i just received my insurance renewal from club marine. I have noticed the last 2 years, my insurance premium has stayed the same, same amount of cover and same premium per year. Whilst i am not complaining as it is only $450incl GST, i am just use to premiums reducing each year especially when you have never made a claim ever in my life (boat, car, bike, house, contents the lot). Is any here in the same boat with club marine? Or should i call and get a discount? Your thoughts? My second option is to go to a broker and get insurance accross the board. (house, car, boat, contents, jewellery, greenslip, phone packaged for a discount)
  21. sorry guys i meant the 542rf... the new signature boat.
  22. hey guys, i had casted my boat wondering eyes on this new haines signature 543rf. Apparently is has been built for the fisherman, and for once i must say, yes it is getting close. Has anyone seen or been on one of these boats? http://www.haines-marine.com.au/content.aspx?pageID=141&mainID=14 What are your thoughts on it for a fishing rig / leisure? Or would you go with a cuddy cabin?
  23. wrxhoon this is my 6th set of bearings changed and of course i know how to pack bearings. I removed all old bearings and sleaves, machined the discs. The new bearings were double packed with marine hi temp grease, and as well as using the grease gun for the wheel cap. I know what to do thanks anyway.
  24. hey fezza, i have done it all before so its not first hand. Took off the wheel and found the bearing had broken. NO damage to the axle. So i have put in a new bearing kit with plenty of grease and boat cruises just fine.
  25. ok guys went out new years day on the boat, and noticed one trailer wheel was slightly cambered. I th ought it may have been on a slight angle and the suspension had adjusted the wheel positioning slightly. Anyhow, after driving back home to wash the boat i noticed trailer was slightly noisier and boat was a bit un steady, so when i got home i noticed camber again on a flat surface, so i undid wheel and found the wheel hub was loose and brake was grinding on the wheel. So off came the wheel bearing, pin and i tighted the nut, put the pin back in. Then all look back in place and tight held. Then after travelling out again, when i went to reverse boat into the water, boat struggled to reverse (even with boat brake latch down). Anyway got it in the water. then got home and checked it again and wheel seems to have cambered again. I havent taken it off yet to see if the hub is loose. But assuming it is, would you think i may have damaged the hub from the 5-10kms i did with a loose hub? Because i tightened it so much that there is no way it is lose. I think with the friction i may need a new hub and wheel bearing kit. What are your thoughts / suggestions? Do you think my philosophy (if you call it that) is right? Tomorrow i intend to take wheel off, remove bearing / hub and fix it, but just want to make sure its the hub damaged. Your help / advise will be greatly appreciated.
