  1. sido, i cant say anything about long term damage to transom, but if the boat is second hand, i would duggest you do wheel bearings before the long trip on the freeway, just to remove any thought of damage with wheels rotating at 80-90km/h. Just make sure shes strapped down well, canopy down so the wind cant damage it and engine cant move left right.
  2. Hey guys anyone been fishing around quarantine station / old mans hat the last few days? What are the water temps there at the moment? Also, down near clontarf / castle rock / middle harbour? I am thinking of taking the boat out first time this season after working on the house and finally finishing my choirs, i wanted to see if it is ideal for a fish then afternoon picnic / swim, but dont want to freeze my nuts
  3. merro nice story and same would be for the harbour, probably been a while since someone has been killed. I was referring to, in my joke, a story a few years back where someone caught a bull shark in a prawn net, or i think caught it fishing... not too sure.
  4. george if im in the chest high water, then you may as well put a 6/0 hook in me so when the bull shark strikes, your on haha
  5. all the rain wouldnt help the water quality. Weather is looking shabby for the next week. When is summer going to be here??????
  6. Hey guys, With the prawn season vast approaching, anyone been prawning in the georges river? Interested to see the amount they catch.
  7. hodgey unfortunately some people who fish do not clean up after themselves, and some amateur at the paper decides to put it on the net, and forget about the crime thats happening in Sydney.
  8. Ok guys, i previously named my stacer 560 - 'the menace' - but i felt like a 18year old on my Ps with number plates of a trouble maker haha and i do not want that perception when i am lugging 450kg of heroin from NZ - Joking haha I dont own a catamaran! now i know ppl get supersticious about changing names, but im not! I want something one or two works maybe three, thats catchy and smart. Even in other languages or latin or italian. I am happy for anything that you can suggest. I mainly fish estuaries or upto 3km offshore, so names referring to deep sea fishing will not suit. I like myself 'fish Don' Help
  9. Gents, I have a 90 mercury saltwater series 2stroke 2003 After been busy for 3 weeks, i finally decided to give my boat a start up and let it run for a good 15mins to clear out any cob webs ready for summer. Starting the engine was easy, and it rumbled as it always does. I let it idle for a good 10 minutes to let it warm up. Then i decided to lift the lever to give it more throttle for zip and the max i got to was 1500rpm. Then i gove it some forward motion, prop began to spin, but again no more than 1500rpm. Now i am hoping it is some from the forwad control box. Any one had this issue, and is sit an easy fix? Or am i looking at a new forward control box?? Your help would be great. Any theings i can try to see if i can get it going again?
  10. i got one as well i am looking to sell... they are great boards. Mine is advertised in swap and sell. I highly recommend baitmate
  11. Le Pasha, audio as in stereo or VHF/27mhz? If it is marine stereo, make sure your speakers are waterproof and covered as well. I have a pretty cool sound system i did myself, sounds awesome, but a fidly job
  12. Bleeding Green i understand where you are comming from to. There is no simple way of fixing this issue, but think about it, boating marketing has no real monitoring of what is going on. I even have a friend whos rego says 9.9hp, but has a 40hp on his rig for the last 5 years and never been caught. As soon as you modify a car with a different motor, it is taken off the street. I dont think my motor was targeted for re birthing. I believe my motor was going to replace the same model motor on another rig, that someone couldnt afford the $5000 for a second hand, and no one would notice it missing. Or to even change the power head unit for parts. My boat was too secured to latch up and tow, and plan b was attempted. Now they will need a plan c, cause plan b is out the window, boat is gone!
  13. Bleeding green - Pink slips for vehicles are different, as when people rebirth cars mostly they are repairable write offs and the damaged parts are swapped with the car they steal. So technically VIN numbers are the same. It would be harder to rebirth a boat, as the hin is printed into the boats hull on aluminium, and rewelding an aluminium hull would be unaccepted as sea / water worthy. However, engines are never checked. All i was stating is that, who is monitoring engines to boats? When a maritime officer pulls you over for random check, they are more worried about legal catch limits, licenses, and thats all they check. Whereas if in a car a police officer pulls you over and suspects wrong doing, do an engine, vin and rego check. Now i have a stacer, whos to say i dont go steal another stacer, lets say the 510 model, and put the same rego number on it and a 560 sticker? Whos to know. They wont measure it or ask questions. And as for engines, i could whack a stolen 90 e tec and never be checked for it? I know this is because someone has attempted to steal my motor i raised this, but think about it, why do you think people steal boats and motors... Never checked! If you question about revenue, well it never ends. We will always pay more, but would you rather pay $25 for a boat inspection, or $100 extra on your car, home, caravan, greenslip, contents insurance due to insurance claims increases? But like you say, i guess when someone attempts to steal something from your boat, you will feel the same.
  14. Gents, I was planning to do some work on my boat this weekend, then noticed someone has used bolts cutters / pliers to cut all my cables from the engine, preparing to steal the outboard. This was confirmed by my mechanic saying this was the start of an attempted theft but was cut short due to being interupted. This is one of many times he has heard / known of this happening. Now i have to get all my cables and steering cable replaced. Funnily enough, i have no block, so the poor bloke would of taken an engine that is useless and would of cost him money to replace the block. Boat has since been moved, so goodluck whoever it was battling with 3 rotties at the yard who are blood hungry! I think its time, with all these stolen rigs and engines, that maritime introduce like a pink/blue slip system where engines and HIN numbers are checked against registrations. I dont mind paying an extra $20 a year from NSW Maritime to have a station where boats are checked (or every two years)before registration. And no not one of those systems where every tom dick and harry can issue the same slip, so the dodgies can come out passing re births, one controlled by authority and reputable boat sellers. Think about it, how easy is it to steal a rig / engine and go un noticed. Different colour, rego numbers, canopy and off you go. fishing away enjoying someone elses boat, while they are left with the excess / lost money. I think $20 on a pink slip, rather than annual increases on your insurance due to increase boat theft. Your thoughts?
  15. In my point of view, the disadvantage i would see is if you wanted a day out to relax on Australia Day, New Years, Christmas, Hot summer day, who gets the right to it, is it pre booked? That means in the 3 years you own an 8th, you may not get to experience a new year or australia day. Just my thoughts.

    Flooring

best to use structural CD ply from bunnings. Iwould use 17mm. Then coat it twice with epoxy resin and hardener. Part A and B, with a bit of thinners. Coat twice within 20mins. This will protect the timber. I just did it recently myself, worked a treat, but very hands on and time consuming. Not a rush job and you need to be patient.
  17. again fellow raiders, i have been working on my boat replacing floors and minor mods, then comes to getting my boat key out and it has fallen off my key ring. Now its a mercury motor and forward control. I have no spare key. What do i do? Anyone know a locksmith or place i can get a new key / key hole without breaking the bank??? help?
  18. Gents, just removed my tank to do some work on the boat, and need to replace my fuel filler hose. I current have the unaflex series 350/360 with wire helix and is about 5cm in circumference. It is an alcohol resistant hose! I ahve tried CBC and they are unsure of the unaflex brand, Does anyone know a store in sydney that will sell the appropriate fuel filler hose? Doesnt have to be that brand?
  19. dazza nice fish, what bait did you use out of interest?
  20. guys, just a quick one, i know this is not a fishing report, but may affect our fishing report section in time. In todays daily telegraph i read this below, from guess who, yes you are right ... Peter Garrett. Now who ever elects him back in should shoot themselves. Not only is this another movement by his party, if you all watched 60minutes or a current affair (cant remember which 0ne) along these coast lines where they are proposing this new maritime park, is close to where they have found gas under the water level, and are talking about building a great big foundry to extract the gas. AND they are worried about a proposed maritime park to conserve the areas, from the ENVIRONMENT minister. Maybe he hasnt seen what BP have done in the USA coastal waters. I know this is not oil, but still the foundries would be operated by a power source, whether it is fuel or carbon and that is another environmental issue. Anyhow, read up on it and be ready for another petition.
  21. Gents, I have a biatmate baitboard that is awesome on my stacer. Thinking of selling it to get another one made up. Now that i have one, i have left out a few extras i would love to have like a knife slot, deck wash hose holder, more storage and shelving compartments. It is only 4 months old, been used about 10 times. Like new. It is very secure on my boat just from 4 bolts each side. removable bait tank so i can trim the motor right up. I was pretty smart in utilising the design with the bait tank, and it has an overflow lip at the bank, so even at full speed on my boat, no water comes onto the carpet. What is a reasonable price for it? I paid close to $600. I am looking between $450-$500. Considering for a plastic board at BIAS or Whitworths, once fitted would owe you around $300, then add in a bait tank, and thats over $700. This is all consolidated to bait board / bait tank.
  22. certified for??? or you mean licensed?
  23. Nathan, thanks for your compliments. I didnt feel so bad as i did it over a year. If i attempted it in one go over a month period, quality level would of dropped with my frustrations, as it can get aggitating trying to work in tight areas on the boat and you feel like getting the angle grinder and doing a masacre on the boat. haha for the trailer, it is one of those jobs. I did mine 2 months ago. I replaced the whole guards and brackets, bearings, hubs, U Bolts, brake cable/brakes and re greased it. Took about 4 hours with all the tools in hand. At least now for 4-5 years i wont have to worry about brackets and u bolts. Just brakes and wheel bearings.
  24. Guys, bought this boat about a year ago or so, and spent time over the last year fixing things up as time went buy, taking on small projects at a time, so i didnt miss a good days fishing having my boat laid up and in pieces. I purchased the boat from a down to earth chap, but unfortunately neglected a few minor things. I haven't done MAJOR work, but still spent quite a few $$$$$$ on electrical and aluminium pieces, and my gadgets. Firstly, i replaced the canopy from green to ocean blue. Cost $350. Then i removed all the stickers that were pretty much had there day, and replaced it with modern stacer stickers. I re attached them myself and not bad considering it owes me $100 for supply and fit of stickers. Then i proceeded to add my baitmate bait board with intergrated removable live bait tank. From then, i have replaced my depth sounder with an eagle sea charter chartplotter / depth sounder. Added a BOSS marine stereo system, with speakers at the front under the windscreen in custom boxes, and in the back with waterproof speakers and waterproof boxes. NO PICS. Then added rocket launchers, second batter, LED lights and flood lights and you will see how great the lights are in the new carpet photos. THen came the fun part, replaced the floor / carpet (the blood stained, and warped timber. (unfortunately only one pic of the carpet before should have taken more.) Went from dark blue to light grey. This is the new boards been measured while the old boards were still in there. Continues on next post. Progress shots of the carpet replace. Of course i used everdure to treat the timber, with two coats on top and bottom, and 4 coats on the sides. Unforunately stacer only allowed 12mm boards with their brackets, and i was not in the frame of mine to start removing the brackets and replacing them, as then it would turn into a bigger project. However, due to the CD structural ply 12mm slightly warped when bought it, i had to make my hatches out of 17mm CD ply, as it would be harder to warp. Therefore, it has left me an extra bit of work to do under the hatches to create a lip for the hatch to rest on, which i will start to work on over the next fortnight once the aluminium is cut and ready. Sorry for all the posts, but when i started taking the pics with my phone, they are too large, hence why i have done this over 4 posts. Painting part Half the floor re placed and carpeted. By this time the fumes from the timber treatment and glue kept me awake and working 10hours straight. Then under the first hatch, i have cut timber and carpeted it to make it and under floor storage for bags / tackle box / whatever fits to create more fishing room. And finally, after about 24 man hours working on the boat floor, from start to finish, replacing 8 floor boards out of 11, it came up looking like this I still have not finished the floor, i still have to secure it and screw it down, and as mentioned before i need to get aluminium brackets made and welded. This was taken 9pm last night, and this is how well my LEDS light up my floor, then i have my anchor light and spreader light on the rocket launchers, which light the boat up amazing for night fishing. You can also see in the background, my carpeted boat speakers. A few guys helped me on this forum, ARMAN mr magoo for supplying some left over glue, outwide steve for the (have fun doing it) statement as he has been there done that, and doug grant for the hatch idea.
