  1. Hi All Despite the wind (forecast) I took my boat out, launched at Roseville bridge, and cruised around. Then I decided to head over to north Head / Quarantine. Arrived there and 2 other boats were anchored. Did ancor up myself, and casted the first rods. Bait got taken and then the fish went and went and went and went till the line broke. - I used some Slimy Mackerel that I bought (yes I know freash one would be better) - The other 2 boats each caught a Kingy (nice size looking from my boat) That was a good feeling. Just need the right bait, have line, swivel, hook and sinker checked next time. Getting Closer And a big thank you to the person who helped me at the ramp. Now I know, never retrieve your boat, if someone next to, is motoring on the trailer: it creates a huge current, that pulles the boat towards the boat with the engine on
  2. I´m in ( 3 month to practice !!! ) Now up to find some friends to share the experience.
  3. Another option is a small inflatable, with a 2HP or 4 HP. You can launch it everywhere, put it on the back-seat of your car and does not send you bankrupt (No insurance needed, no license needed, no rego needed, and about 5$ of fuel)
  4. Thats like reading one of my days (except i am not going out so early, and i dont even see squids ) If I might join in on the request for someone more experienced to take me on a fishing expedition. I can sit quite in the corner and just watch, or help full on, catch the bait (if instructed) and of course pay the fuel and bring some . Departure under Roseville Bridge preferred
  5. Congratulation She looks beautiful ! Enjoy !
  6. Hi I am going with family up to Shoal bay this weekend, It's not the first time, and till now we caught Shovel Nooses, Blind sharks, more shovel Noses, more blind sharks, one flounder, and all kind of undersized fishes. Where should I go with the boat? (I am staying inside), what should I target? and what should I use for bait? and where should I get the bait from? If I ask the tackle shop at salamanders, they always answer to go to the wave breaker at nelson bay marina, but i cannot imagine that with all that water, that is the only place to go !?!?!?!
  7. I am going up this weekend. WHere was the sighting of those sharks? Inside the harbour? I also love to snorkel around the sanctuary, not so sure anymore.
  8. Was on the water with my son (5), moved to Balmoral Island, but no yakkas or squids, then moved towards manly (reef beach), but wind was to strong. Seeked protection in quarantine beach, had lunch and a swim (both of us). Then over the bumpy waves back to the spit to more up, and have a cast. A Diamond fish for my son, and that made so happy, he was singing for the rest of the day. Watched the NSW Maritime check all the boats, except us. I suppose because my son had its life jacket on. Then we went into one of the side arms of Middle Harbour, and managed 1 garfish and 1 Yakka. The Diamond fish was released the other two came home.
  9. Same here, like yesterday, except for 1 snook and a yakka
  10. Great Report What's the fish on the second picture? I think that was undersized.
  11. Great Report, nice to read that things happen land-based too. It's tough fighting at Balmoral jetty on a weekend, did that too for a while. Either there is no place, because people camp out overnight or you get a good spot (at the front) and then all the other squeeze in from the side. That's why I got my inflatable (still have it , and keen to sell it to you, PM me) with a 4HP (It broke down ), it just took me out there where the fish are. Catching a Kingy from the wharf hard. One (memorable) evening at Clifton gardens, there was a school of kingies, going wild. I manages to loose my tackle about 10 times. No 1 fish caught, and all the other fishos they filled their bucket (80% of the fish caught probably undersize). But I managed later on (a few weeks down) to get one just legal. So good on you with your efforts, you are close, reeeeeeeeeel clozzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzze.
  12. Check this one out (newer version of what i had) http://www.eaglenav.com.au/Products/Fishfi...k-320-Portable/
  13. I had once a portable one: Screen on top of battery based. It did have a transom mount AND a floating sounder island. Was an Eagle, did work reasonably well. took 4 Huge Batteries !!! Only used with Duracell.I needed a charger for them. I also had a Humminbird SMARTCAST RF35 Wrist Mount. Not good (works only with no wind, and 10m distance and 10m depth) Maybe something like Eagle FISHEASY 245DS Portable
  14. Just added 4 Squid Jigs (Yamashita & yo-zuri) and a Lip Gripper. Now I have to sneak the goods past the and on the next occasion pretend they always have been in my tackle box but never used
  15. When I just started 2 month ago I .. ..rescued two youngsters in a 1,5 m dinghy on a very very very rainy day (got wet to the undies) but "rescued" them ..gave a "lift" to the boatramp to some guys without fuel ... stopped 2 kids in a small inflatable to be blown away from their parents sitting in a $$$$$$$$$$$$ boat yep, and I just love it
  16. Same here Every excuse is good to buy new Gear! Ands since I had gear for Overseas and gear for here, and now moved, I have a lot more then needed. Will I sell something online? No way !!!!
  17. Hi I see from the reports that Squids (live ones) seems to do the trick. My issue is, I never have been squidding What i know is that i need a Squid - Jig. And that's IT I dont even know how to rig the Jig on: Sinker-Line-Float And where to try to get some Squiddos (no need to know exact locations, just what to look for) Q: Do squids give a feedback on the sounder? Any tip, hint, help (even what Squiddy Thingy, to catch them with, to buy) is HIGHLY appreciated
  18. Lucky Escape But they probably realized that you were sincere when you measured it against the Sticker. It´s good to hear that they do controls too. Shame for the fish, but hey, you got a bigger one !!! It´s a tough job what the Fisheries Guys have, as everyone has some kind of excuse ready, and most fishos are probably not as polite as you are. Well done on the big one and well done on not loosing the temper.
  19. Those wighting look magnificent. Well done
  20. Hi I have a Quintrex Sports 475, and wondering where you take the boat? The furthest I have been, was just off the south head. I have a 60HP 4 stroke on the back.
  21. Maybe he wanted to drive ON the water with his Ute. He shoudl have inflated the tires a bit more. Now they are fishig the car out.
  22. Thanks for the info. Its just a weird feeling to start the journey in the boat without bait. Almost like being naked. But if i buy the bait, i will not use Lures and plastics or fish for bait. OK, I will try today. Will only take bread for the baitfish. If tonight you hear someone swearing like a trooper , well it might be me. I'll let you know tomorrow how it went. hopefully in the Fishing report section.
  23. Hi all I am not really the person to get up at 4am to go to fish, so by the time I am on the water, and with the time limit set by the I am in a bit of a rush.So I opt for the frozen Pilchards from the petrol station. Now reading the reports, it seems that ALL of you use fresh bait. If I have 3 hours of time, should I really spend 1 or 2 hours trying to get some life bait? Would it eventually be OK, to buy some fresh calamari from the fish-counter? Or do I have to change my behaviour, and spend some time just fishing for bait and don't worry about the big guys.
  24. Happy Birthday, and "Petri Heil" like we say in Switzerland May the fish bite, and the partners not complain about scales. Lots of Sagitariuses in here !!!
