  1. Nice fishing. Hey are there still a heap of small Jackets hanging around the drums?
  2. Excellent stuff. Sounds like all the hard work paid off. By the way was it squid or yakkas? Any hints on whether you were out of Botany or the Harbour? Cheers Don
  3. Totocorma, That's some good advice, by the way what size jigs do you use off the stones?
  4. Excellent video, That's a fish of a lifetime. You'll get every bum off the couch and out there trying to do the same after watching that. Cheers The Don.
  5. Nice catch. Reading all the reports I've bought a heap of jigs, but haven't managed to catch anything on them yet. Mind if I ask approx how far off-shore you were? Cheers TheDon
  6. Interseting to hear you say that. I was in the Bay on Sunday and we had a cracker of a day. We got 6 legal trevally (30-40cm), about 4-5 flatties (only 1 legal), 2 salmon, one bonnie and 1 taylor (35cm). Plus we dropped a few others. Amazing what a difference a day makes. P.S. Water was 17.9 degrees and we couldn't get any yakkas either. Everything was caught on Pillies and squid.
  7. I find it hard to believe that anyone has caught 7 legals from Moli point. I've been there 3 weeks in a row, we've landed around 25 kings and not one has been legal.
  8. That's pretty big for a bonnie. Good work We only managed 1 tuna last season, haven't seen any this season yet.
  9. That's an excellent trevally. Largest I've caught was 47cm off the rocks and that gave me some curry. I'm sure yours went even harder.
  10. Great work mate, I'm heading out tomorrow morning, I hope I have a similar experience. Cheers The Don
  11. What an amazing day. Something to remember forever.
  12. Congratulations on the Catch. Good to see the schools are starting to arrive. In terms of eating though, I disagree. There are definantly ways that you can make the "edible", however compared to most other table fish, Australian salmon are near the bottom of the list.
  13. What is the benefit of stating it at home before you go to the ramp? (other than making sure that it still works)
  14. Sounds like an awesome day. I've seen lots of reports of people doing well drifting around that area lately. I'm new to boating and only just learning how to drift properly. Do you mind if I ask what bait you were using and can anyone recommend how to rig up the line for a drift in open waters? Cheers The Don
  15. I'm also choosing between the Lowrance HDS5 and the Humminbird 788cxi. And Also the Lowrance Elite 5, which works out much cheaper when you consider it comes with the Navionics Gold Card. I'm not expecting any great deals at the boat show, but I'm hoping to just be able to have a play with them and ask a few questions to see which one to buy.
  16. Thanks for the tips guys. My towbar is set-up exactly like the picture. So the Tongue is already at the top, but it's still too low. Next time I go out on the boat I'll measure exactly how much higher I think I need the towbar to be. If it is just a little bit, then the most cost effictive way will be to get a higher towball. But if not I will probably go for a Hayman Reese Height Adjustable Hitch Tongue. I rand one place and they quoted me $180 for it. Can anyone suggest me a reasonably priced towbar/part supplier? thanks Don
  17. We bought a few of them. First day we used it we just left it in the rod holder with the jig near the bottom. After a couple of hrs, the rod buckled over and we pulled up a just legal kingie. Haven't had any success since then. The guy in the tackle shop said he's caught quite a few rock cod and seargent baker with them.
  18. Don't feel too bad about not catching anything in the Bay at the moment. Scotty Lyons never ceases to amaze me at how he continually goes out and finds fish in Botany Bay. I've been on one of his charters and we caught heaps of fish. But when I go out on my boat I seem to struggle. Even though I try to use the same techniques, the last 2 weekends I only managed 2 just legal bream and 2 just legal tailor. I think I'm going to go on another charter and pay more attention next time. Something I've noticed is when I get back to the boat ramp, people that are fishing with bait have been far less successful that those fishing with lure/plastics at the moment, so don't be afraid to give plastics a try. Cheers Don
  19. Hi, I recently bought a 2010 Honda CRV to tow my Quintrex 475 Bayhunter. I have a genuine Honda Fitted Towbar, but the problem I have is the Towbar is too low. When I try to wind down jockey wheel to put the coupling over to towball, even when I have wound it all the way down as far as it goes, it is still up above the towball. So I can't then swing up the jockey wheel. So the only way to do it is to hold the trailer up in the air while someone else swings up the jockey wheel and then drop it on the towball. This is a little difficult. Is there another way that I can somehow increase the height of the towbar or put on a higher towball or something. I've attached a picture of what the towbar looks like. thanks Don
  20. Hi DHype, I was out on the bay on Saturday morning too. But I didn't have as much success as you. Only managed 2 just leagal Taylor. I was in a White Quintrex named Grumpy's mate. I spent most of the day fishing with bait, to no avail. Then at around 11-12am I tried trolling all around the south head and the north head. Then tried Yarra bay and Mol point. But didn't have any success. I think maybe my rapala lures were too big. What size were you using? Cheers Don
  21. I've also been on Scotty Lyons' fishing charter in Botany Bay. It was fantastic, I learned a lot. We caught Trevally, Bream, Salmon, Fathead, Flounder all in the one day. I also did his fishing school which includes an evening class before spending a day in the bay. Highly recommended. Cost information is on his website: www.fishingsydney.com.au
  22. Sounds like a fantastic day. You guys make it look easy. I'm still waiting for the day that I can bring in a haul like that. Cheers The Don
  23. Sounds like you had a great day. We tried trolling all around north head for nothing. Do you mind if I ask which lures you were using? Thanks TheDon
  24. The Eagle sounders are 640x480 for the same price (or even cheaper) than the Lawrence sounder which is 480x480. Does that mean the Eagle should be better or are there other things I should be looking at other than resolution?
  25. I don't think it is legal to use nets to catch bait fish in NSW. You don't really need them anyway. Just get a single small long shank hook with a very small clamp on sinker about 15 cm above the hook on a hand line. Burley up with either a few slices of white bread or mash up a couple of pilchards. Put a tiny bit of pilchard on the hook and throw it in amoungst the burley. As soon as they bite give it a yank to hook them and pull them up. Anywhere around wharfs you should find them. Cheers
