  1. Cheers mate! it was tough but that bass made it not so bad Thats good to know about the blades mate because ill be down your way in a little over a month for the southern bream series down there in the lake
  2. Hey guys! Went up to Monduran with the old man for a boys week away It was a tough drive and even tougher fishing, the whole place basically has shut down after the cold front that came through just recently and with the recent floods any decent reports from the area have been few and far between My cousin runs a holiday park near the dam so our accommodation was sorted so all we had to do was concentrate on the fishing Day 1... Originally the plan was to go out with my cousins husband Rob who does charters up there but he had boat dramas so we went by ourselves the first day in his Polly with a 40 on the back. Its a very daunting place and the amount of area and possible fishing locations we didnt know where to start! after loosing a couple of lures to snags and the wind came up real bad we decided to call it a day Day 2.... The second day started off much the same as the first day with boat problem again and not much of a clue but we kept on trying. i did have one fish follow a topwater from that made my heart skip a beat but it shy'd away at the last moment but other than that nothing again Day 3.... We hit the lake late arvo with Rob this time in his hornet trophy to take us to a few of his favorite locations. We could see barra in the deep on the sounder and a few here and there with the side scan but again no luck.. We tried Shallow sun drenched weedy bays with suspending Hb's top water lures for no luck, we tried in real tight timber with Hb's and lightly weighted slick rigs with no luck, we tried drop offs and windy points with slick rigs with no luck and even tried vertical jigging with blades over a school of bass and a few big archers in the deep with no luck again! Day 4... We decided to hit the water early and spend most of the day on the day exploring the system and Rob said if we still had no luck he would give us a little secret spot to try land based that apparently goes alright just befor dusk Well you guessed it we tried out hardest again with no luck So off to this land based spot after the spill way basically its a nice deep pool that formed after the floods with a nice steep rapid part out the back of it Armed with my light gear the idea was to chuck small plastics and blades at the base of the rapids and see what we could pull out of the hole A couple of lure changes later i chucked on one of my home made blades and with a great cast right into the "money zone" WHACK!!! i was on! I definitely was not expecting anything like this and with only using 3lb braid and 6lb leadder on my bream gear i thought for sure i would of lost the fish but after a tense 5 or so min up comes the biggest bass i have ever seen It ended up going 54.5cm which i think is a new raider record and i dare say it would of weight 2.5-3kgs i have a few pics on a brag mat that i will upload as soon as i can work out how to do it with the camera but here is the bodgy one with me holding it that i had on my phone and a few others of random stuff from the week Big Bass My homemade blade that got me the fish Wild life Coral trout and salt and pepper squid yum !!!! My favorite a massive pot of curry snags Thanks for reading guys ill post up a few more pics and stuff when i get more of a chance this week Pete
  3. bad luck mate! fish that marker on the run in tide with blades for big bream i always seem to be able to pull something out of there Pete
  4. any hints with top water guys? tango dancers have been thrown around alot and ill be using squidgy boof frogs hopefully too
  5. cheers mate! looks like ill settle for 30lb powerpro and black magic fluro between 40-80lb now i got to work out what knots to use!! pete
  6. There really healthy looking fish! Great work Pete
  7. ill get all of them to try i was thinking the slik rigs in grunter too should i also try hardbodys and surface lures like the squidgy boof froms ect ect?
  8. Cheers mate it looks like the stuff i have will be up to the task im getting a lend of a boat up there im not sure just yet but it could actually be a skeeter And dont worry ill do a runnimg report while im up there just for you Thanks Andrew! Ill deffently buy a few different leadders to take up with us i just have to try work out what knots we need to use... my cousins housban does tours up there so we will be goin out with him one day then explor ourself the rest of the time. Are you fishing the harbour round comming up mate? Cheers Greg! Im looking into the t curve atm so it looks like ill be getting one next week. Thats an interesting and exciting style your talking about you have got me even more excited!!! What colours do you guys recomend in the slick rigs? i was even thinking or maybe 7inch jerkshads too Pete
  9. Hey guys im going on a spare of the moment trip with my old man up to lake monduran in a couple of weeks so i was just after a little advice on gear. As some of you might know i love fishing light but i also know the limitations of such set ups especially with big fish and lots of snags and stuff so im going to take a couple of set ups with me. I dare say most of the fishing will be done on slick rigs slow rolled and maybe some hard body action but im not too sure. I was thinking of using 15-20lb powerpro braid with 20-30lb leader most likely being fc rock does this sound ok? Reels i already have is 3x stradic 4000's, and might be getting a twinpower 4000 too Rods so far are starlo pro 4-7kg 7ft, raider 2 mexican fire 4-7kg 7.1ft and another raider that i think is 5-8kg's and i will be looking into maybe a t curve 6-10kg set up but im still not sure Im defiantly new to this sort of fishing so any input and feed back would be a real help Cheers guys Pete
  10. Parramatta river today.... Spent a couple of hours this arvo sussing out the area for the next southern bream series in a couple of weeks Concentrated on boat hulls (never done befor) without an electric which made it really hard but picked up a nice bream going 33cm an ok trev and a legal whiting on a hull too and a heap of unders thrown in the mix all on the silly string Also got smoked buy i suspect a stonker bream that took me around a mooring rope but i think it will take me a little while to get used to the area thats for sure lets hope i do better this weekend pete
  11. Mate if your knots are good you should be fine i use an albright as the connecting knot but double over the 1 lb braid I know a bloke that regulary used 2 and even 1lb leadder and gets some crazy fish pete
  12. ill be trying the silly string out tommrror on the harbour bream population hopefully i have even been using blades with the light stuff too only have lost a couple
  13. i might head out to wb next weekend myself you guys always seem to produce the goods on hardbodys! one thing i have yet to do is get any type of consistancy out of them pete
  14. A sounder would defiantly help mate especially with water temps too People think funny when it comes to structure but it can be anything from rock walls, points, drop offs, weed patches which the cowan has plenty of Just stay close to the shoreline in most parts and you should be fine Pete
  15. Hey guys! Spent a couple of days at canton beach caravan park with a couple of family and friends and was aloud to bring the boat along too We only spent a couple of hours at a time on the water and never far away from where we were staying but its a huge system and i would love to explore it propperly one day... Our first arvo was a nice little session again i decided to fish really light just for a little practice more than anything. With alot of small bream and whiting being landed it was great fun, they only seemed interested in small prawn immitation lures like zx30's and berkley 2 inch shrimp on hidden weights. Our best 2 fish for the session were nothing to brag about but still we were pretty pleased Sunday morning started off slow but it didnt take too long untill i had a great typical "flattie hit" and a little shock with the weight of the fish! only using 2 lb leadder and 1 lb fireline again i didnt like my chances of landing the flattie and at first sight of the fish i realised the plastic was right down its gob but i kept on trying. A couple of times around the boat and a few tense moments and into the net went the lizard and ping went the leadder To say i was pretty happy with myself was an understatement and everyone on board was happy just to watch. not long after my old man landed a fat 34cm bream which we forgot to take a photo of but it too put up a great fight for its size then the wind picked up and we went back in Over the couple of sessions we would of landed 15 legals and alot of smaller bream but there was never a dull moment and it topped off a great weekend Thanks for reading guys Pete
  16. good work mate they go great on light gear hey!!! Pete
  17. Hey guys it has been a while since i have posted so i thought while i had the opptunity i would do a couple of reports from some recent comps Fish the Port Hacking round last month.... I pre fished the friday arvo because i have never even been to the hacking Its a weird place for me with massive drop offs and rocky shorelines but it is a beautifull place. I had a decent session landing 3 nice and fat bream a few big blackfish in the shallows on lobbys skipped accross the surface and a legal reddy on a popper! Sunday came along and it was alot harder going than the friday thats for sure! we started 77th and most of the spots i tried the day befor were like carparks! the flats were not producing like friday so we fished in the deeper channels and it was slow going to start and the weather was shocking with wind and rain coming in from every direction! First fish came in after around 2hrs and was an ok size but put up a decent fight making me think it was 5cm bigger but still it was our first fish in the live well and no doughnutts for us We moved after a couple of fruitless drifts in the same area and straight away i got a massive hit that i thought was a bream untill it took its first real big run! not knowing what it was and only fishing with really light gear !lb fireline 3lb fc rock leader i decided to try get look at it so the fight was on After about 7 or so i finally netted a nice and really fat salmon going 59cm Normally i wouldnt mind gettin one of them and i only decided to fishg the fish hoping it was a jewie as it didnt jump and stayed deep. The next half hour saw us net another 2 and i snapped off another bigger one in frustration as they were taking up valuable fishing time! The place really seemed to shut down and it went very quiet but i ended up landing another bream going 27cm and that was all for the day We only weighed in 0.715 kg with our 2 fish but we finished 43/79 with alot of teams not even weighing in anything so i guess it was an ok result St Georges Basin round We started off 84 for the day and again it was really slow going the weather was shocking again but it didnt worry us. I tried a couple of places i have never fished thinking that maybe with no one fishing there we might be a little sneaky and get a few but i soon found out why no one was there After 2 hrs we finally got into some fish but they didnt come in the species we wanted i dropped a flattie that would of gone mid 70's i think and got a couple of nice reddies around 36cm Another Drift in the same area got us our first fish in the bag which lifted our spirits Fish didnt come in a hurry but they did come every 20 min or so so we stayed in the same area for the rest of the day and upgrading a couple of times as well. Our biggest fish went right on 39cm and i pulled hooks on another one that would of been the same size if not bigger but i guess that happened to everyone else that day too We ended weighing in at 3.o75 kg with the full 5 fish bag which got us 24/88 so i was pretty happy with our effort considering the really slow start and we beat a few sponsored teams too Sorry for the lack of pics guys im in competition mode but i promise my next report will have plenty Thanks for reading guys Pete
  18. im keen! Im goin to give the hacking a go on friday for some jewies and salmon try land my first jewie (lost 2 at the boat) pete
  19. try towra point inbetween the weed beds, the sticks and kernell are worth a go too the chop in botany can get really bad so if you dont like being unconfortable pick your days
  20. Thanks for the replys guys I'll will have to invest in some quality 6lb mono for the next time I go out and hopefully hang onto more of them! It's really new to me with top water but I sure do have the bug now:). Cheers Pete
  21. Hey guys! Hit the bay solo friday arvo and was keen to hit kernel but but once i cam out of the channel and into to bay and the chop was startin to get real bad so i decided to stay around towra just incase it really blew up and i wouldnt of got too wet Decided to give poppers a go over the shallows as it was over cast and windy. I was only set up with the light gear 3lb fireline 3lb leader so i backed the drag off a little more than usual , Within 3 cast i hooked up to a mice fish in knee high water and boated my first bream on a popper going 35cm A few more drifts went buy and lost a popper that must of been a cracker of a fish because i couldnt turn its head and it dug its head into ribbon weed so i had no chance to get it out rig back up and nect cast i get smashed again but this time it was sonethin a little different! i would of only be in around 3ft of water and it went like the clappers takin run after runs and being by myself i couldnt chase it so the boat eventually run ashore and the fight continued... after seemed like for ever i finally got some line back then off again! I didnt like my chances but i kept on goin and landed in the boat my first king in the net it deffently wasnt huge but in less than 4ft of water and on the light leader i was over the moon Un stuck myself off the sand and back out again for a few more drifts catching a few bream around 30cm then these 2 guys within 5 min of each other The wind picked up more so i decided to head in happy with myself even if i did loose 4 poppers in the process lol All fish were on either the bushy poppers or the new berkley ones with 1-3kg rod 3lb line and leader Thanks for reading guys Pete
  22. cheers mate! Yeah it did suck loosing the bigger ones but i bet that happened to most of the other entrants too i suppose there is also alot of luck sometimes! The boat has been good mate! very stable in calm conditions but you still cant help the botany bay chop! I got to get the trim sorted when on plane it rides too flat for my liking but when you get up it from a stand still (more so by myself) it reaches for the skies
  23. Hey guys! I entered the first round of the squidgies southern bream series on sunday in the botany bay over the weekend and went alright i think I was an amazing sight seeing over 80 dedicated fishing boats lined up along the shore line near the sailing club right next to captian cook bridge and i do admit i was a little nervous too Not having the best form coming into the day ( a few shockers on the water) and not fishing the bay in a couple of weeks and no pre fish either i would of been just happy to weigh in 1 fish! Starting 77th out of 84 boats all my usual spots had already had alot of heavy traffic so i tried some areas i had not fished much at all and we had a really slow start only landing a few nice flatties and about 10 stinky pike Decided to try the carpark/towra and on the first drift hooked onto something with plenty of go! only using 3lb braid and leader i couldnt put too much load on the fish and after 5 or so min i finally seen the profile of an almost legal kingy then it took another 20m or so of line so i decided to snap it off and in the process taking the whole leader with it! Switched to my new T curve revolution 1-3kg stick matched with my new Ci4 1000 reel 1 lb fireline 2lb leader and within 2 cast i blooded it with our first and biggest landed bream of the day going 34cm It was very hard goin and after a few moves we found a couple of just legals but into the live well they went! All went quiet again for an hour so we moved again and almost instantly hooked into a real nice bream that would of been close to 1kg but the hooks pulled right at the boat it was big and dark and looked amazing in the sun but never mind cast again and im onto another one i thought! i have never been so upset to catch i nice whiting so a quick photo and back in she went Landed another legal bream and pulled hooks on a couple of nicer ones (see a pattern forming here lol) then headed back with around half an hour befor the weigh in to try for one more and boated a 30cm keeper so straight back to the weigh in to see how we went. Alot of teams only landed a few fish and with our bag only being 2.057kg we still managed to finish 26th out of 84 so i was pretty pleased how we went in the end My fishing partner chicken had a shocker for the day only landing flatties so i got all 5 fish but its a team event and he was very helpfull with the net Ended up having a pretty good day with a good mate so no complaints and i cant wait to the next one All bream landed were on 3 inch watermellon pearl gulps on 1/20th tt gig heads and most of the other fish were on 80mm wrigglers Also met up with Andrew (THE ICEMAN) and had a good little chat he's a top bloke! Thanks guys and sorry for such a long post Pete
  24. what ever is best for you to see mate I mostly use white fireline so i can see it well and like 70%ludite said a long leader is a must! i usually go 1 1/2 rod lengths
