  1. 6lb is fine... just get a flourocarbon leader of meyb even the same weight and a couple of berkley soft plastics (smaller size) and give em a chuck around moorings, structure etc and you will land some bream, trevally and stuff. Theres plenty of reports of people catching kingfish on 6lb line, you just need to be patient and have the drag right. If you want something bigger, go to the heads and use small metals/baitfish lures and you can get a salmon on 6lb no problem, just play it patient. If you want something else different, attach a float add some splits shots and head around the spit bridge or most harbour wharfs where theres a dropoff and use green weed which can be gathered off harbour sewerage outlets or ocean rocks, and get some blackfish. Again 6lb is adequate just make sure u use a net to land the larger fish (i learnt that the hard way last week with 6lb leader). specific tips for a rod off a boat: dont leave it on the ground or it will get stepped on, dont let it rattle around when the boats in motion, if your fighting a fish dont lift the rod above 45 degrees and dont let it touch the side of the boat otherwise it can snap. Gd Luck
  2. gonna b down south at the gong on the weekend. apart from aiming at a jew from a beach there with all the squid i have i am Wondering if there are any charters/whats down there for offer? regards stefan ps i already know its pretty late to book a charter for the weekend
  3. totally sux about the trailer. thats the boat ramp i use wen im at botany! how bout we keep sending letters until they put cameras up at the ramp despite having all the security stuff my dad got for our trailer i think my best defence is its crappiness. The smashed car windows freaks me out a bit tho.
  4. i meant these: when i was a kid i was using sum small prawns off the beach near there and caught a small bream. When i reeled it in, thinking it suddenly got a lot heavier, i saw a huge flathead infront of me which proceeded to spew out the small bream which from the tension of the line, smacked me in the face. Moral of my little anecdote: there are flathead around there.
  5. imho those lures r pretty crappy. If u wanna get the most outta them id prolly take the treble off and save it for some hardbody u might have with rusted hooks...they arent the best trebles but they look like they wud go with a cheap hardbody fine. As for the rest of it, now it only has one hook and would prolly be only useful to catch flathead, those trebles wud make releasing fish a real pain thus the idea to take them off. Best place to use them around ur area wud be far up the georges or around brighton off the rockwalls. Gd luck
  6. was at the spit last saturday at low tide mid morning and casted a jig to kill some time after a rock climbing session. 3rd cast caught a huge calamari with another one following it which i missed out on. Id say u shud stick 2 the spit area but dont fish just the bridge... 300-400m down and up stream on either side pending on wind (purely so its not miserable). i dont usually fish the area but by looking at the day on the side i was on i literally saw 20+ spots to try. Just dont pick the obvious wharfs/deep areas all the time. Weed is +
  7. check this out for ur season needs. Its sydney harbour specific: http://www.fishabouttours.com.au/index.asp?pagename=Species+Chart+Sydney
  8. bad luck man... if it ever really sux and there isnt any area thats outta the wind then theres always the option of going up the georges or cooks Always some shelter there.
  9. i am definitely gonna have a roadtrip there. the spot looks amazing.
  10. is the flatty pic the inside of ur boat? if so it looks pretty cosy compared 2 mine which is all open 2 the wind..

  12. hey whats the deal with catching crabs in the bay? like rules and such? also which flats are you talking bout? I dunno whether crabbing spots are as secretive as fishing spots so totally sweet if u dun wanna disclose your location.
  13. was at shark island earlier in the week at night. Tonnes of bait but no strikes.. i blame myself tho... completely missed the turn of the tide where abouts is the reef? i often see people putting their boat right against the wharf... anythign special there?
  14. cheers man... here i was thinking it was sumwhere in the harbour...
  15. I've been trying to find out where is this for a while and had no luck. Any1 have any ideas what bridge this is in or at least what area? cheers
  16. spot looks familiar... what was your bait/burley of choice?
  17. i used to know a guy who lives in the gold coast and uses plenty of heavy line....anything over 100lb is crimped as its easier and it also tests better for lines >130lb. if u REALLY wanna do a knot then i heard lots of ppl talk about the trilene knot. quick google search brings this up for you: http://www.ehow.com/how_5687408_tie-thick-monofilament-fishing-lines.html stefan
  18. when you start on plastics you cant stop awesome effort i wonder tho... how many people ended up opening this report because it said mission accomplished and was in the parra river? had jewfish written all over it haha
  19. i think this is the time of the year where we as fisherman must band together and each catch our bag limit of leatherjacket....hey maybe if we all keep doing that then someone's gonna find a good use for them
  20. i would give up a session on kingfish to be with a pod of dolphins in my boat
  21. the cuttlefish was unbelievably yummy.....cant wait to see how its gonna go as bait.
  22. cheers dudes...im finding the same people are replying to my posts no matter where i put them which is awesome and shows that you guys are the ones that really keep this forum alive. I have virtually memorised the jewfish tactics thing (to the point its printed haha) and i definitely know what to look for but its just nice to know im not fishing in a completely blind area where its been unheard of to catch jewfish. shark island always looked the go for me... gonna put some more time into it and really suss it out... thats all i needed to know. i guess to a certain extent i also like to keep my spots a secret however at the same time...to a point i find it similar to kingfish fishing... u can give someone a spot but u know its not gonna be outfished unless they fish to the same quality as you.. i.e. knowing the tides, time, pressure, moon, baits like fresh squid etc and if they are good enough to know that information and catch the squid then i have a certain level of appreciation of the effort they put in. if its a matter of room then thats a way different story. i guess thats why we give general areas... most experienced fisherman are gonna know where to look anyways thats my 2 cents but definitely not necessarily the right view.
  23. i guess I'm going to have to do this the hard way

    John Dory?

seeing its well into winter time and we all know they come into the harbour has any one had any luck with john dory? seen zero reports on them this year so far...i heard deep areas in rosebay go well with a live yakka ...does time of day matter? cheers stefan
  25. im in the rosebay area and got some local squidding spots nailed along with sum spinning spots from the coast... i already know of diamond bay and the chance of getting one from the watsons bay wharf...also gave near shark island a go but no luck... any1 know any other spots close to rosebay where 1 cud get a jewfish? anything west of the harbour or further than clifton is considered far lol... even better would be a shore based spot....where i cud drive when i feel like it.... atm all im going with is watsons... so far the sites search feature is proving fruitless
