  1. These two cats were doing a Photo Shoot on the Hacking today Could not make out the name but I sure would like one. grandad
  2. There's a new shop opened up in Miranda, sells lures. They have the SAX scent in different flavours. I am testing the Gold Prawn with Flecs at the moment, Trouble is all my flatties have been undersize. To find the shop, it is next door to Spotlight, in the same building as the old "RTA". Hope this helps, Grandad
  3. Nice Flatty, Any sign of Prawns in the lake,
  4. Hi Raiders Left Sylvania at 5-30. Trolled all the way to the Peak for nothing. Cruised around looking for kings, could only see massive schools of Jackets. Only one other boat there and he didn’t stay long. Nothing on jigs, baits were taken by jackets as soon as you got down 30 metres or so. Trolled back to 40 metre depth off Coogee, that’s where I picked up the flathead, 4 blue spot and 1 Marbled, haven’t caught marbled flathead for a while. Back at the ramp at1-00pm. Grandad
  5. Yowie the baitfish were only 50mm long. could have scooped them out with a net, They covered an area about the size of a footy field. There was also a lot of eggs in the water. when I filled a bucket with water it was full of floating eggs. Grandad
  6. Hi Paikea Yowie Bay ramp is good, You should have no problems. My problem is I find it too hard to go past the flattys. Plus the hump is on my maximum distance limit. Grandad
  7. Left Port Hacking at 5.00 Tried a few spots on the way down, Found a patch wide off marley. The trawlers (unmarcked) had just pulled in their nets, so they burlied the spot for me. Got my 10 flatties in a couple of hours and started chasing the birds, never seen so many. did not apear to be anything underneath the baitfish. Tried plastics and slugs but nothing there. Came home when the wind stopped. Grandad
  8. Hi Raiders Was at Burrill Lake at the weekend, had a couple of fishing sessions on the lake, out of the son in law’s boat. Having never fished there before, it was trial and error. The water was stained with the rain and underwater visibility was down to 300mm. His sounder wasn’t working so we were fishing blind. There were 4 adults flicking plastics and the kids were using bait. Only one flatty was caught and I was the lucky one. After the boat was towed around in a circle I knew it was a decent fish. When it surfaced I wondered how I was going to get it on board, we had no landing net. I was wearing gloves so I lip gripped the big girl and she came on board without any trouble. After photos she was returned, she went 900mm.
  9. Read report posted 06 may 2013 titled "Does anyone know any spots in lake Maquarie". Hope you do good, "Secret" use Burley. Grandad
  10. Great story, brought back memories of me and my father, put a lump in my throat thinking of it. Grandad
  11. Congrats, Nice to see the big ones starting to turn up in the system. Grandad
  12. Hi Raiders With below average catches on my last couple of outings I have finally caught something worth a mention, Took the missus for a couple of hours soft plastic fishing in the bay, The last time I took her she out fished me by catching a flatty of 60cm. It was my turn today with this beauty going 72cm. Caught on the top of the tide in the channel near Captain Cook Bridge. Released after Photos, the other Flatty’s and the tailor going 45cm weren’t so lucky. Grandad
  13. Hi Mike2153 Fished there for a week The places indicated are where I caught Bream Flathead And Tailor. The tyre reef and the 6 artificial reefs are a starting point. Very shallow and reefy at Pelican rock. Caught Bream between the moored boats and the Bream spot was very productive. Lots of Burley was the secret, and early morning with the mist rising off the water. Hope this helps Grandad
  14. Hi Raiders I just found a part of the Maritime web site that raiders may be interested in. The Maritime are trying web cameras on some of the bar crossings. Have a look. Even if you do not intend crossing a bar it gives you some idea of the sea conditions. Admin may want to put a permanent link on the Fishraider Site. http://www.maritime.nsw.gov.au/webcams/web-cam.html Grandad.
  15. Have a look at this marine chart. The drums are in the centre and clearly marked. Grandad
  16. I was down there all last week and the floodwater had made a channel out to the sea. The water was too brown and dirty for me to try fishing; it had a four inch thick cover of brown foam, although I did see a couple of blokes fishing there at low tide. It was the same at North Haven and Laurieton, too dirty to fish. The beach smelled terrible with all dead Cunje washed up. Saw too Sting Rays caught at the North Haven Boat ramp, should be ok after the rain stops and the fresh stops coming in. Grandad.
  17. Nice Jewie, do you eat the Frigates, or is that future bait. Grandad
  18. 5 am it was too much for my 4m boat. It got better as the day progressed then worsened as the wind picked up in the afternoon. Seabreeze said the wave period should have been 6 seconds and wave height 2.2 feet, it was more like 3 seconds wave height was over a metre. Flat as a tack behind the merries. Grandad
  19. Tried again today, 5 am start, sea was a little rough for my small boat, so went and fished off Green hills in 3 metres of water. Was using soft plastics, and had a ball, caught 6 and lost as many again at the side of the boat. They were grabbing the tails and not taking the hook, only two were keepers but lots of fun. The wind dropped and the sea died down a little about lunchtime, so ventured out to the wanderers, nothing doing out there apart for a large school of slimeys that went past. Now armed with fresh bait I moved to the Middle ground, caught 2 undersize snapper and two rock cod. Lost 4 rigs to the jackets. The wind picked up and increased the drift and the flatty’s started to bite, Most were undersize but managed 6 keepers before they stopped biting. Made up for my fishless day last week. Grandad
  20. " fishing reports when I don't catch anything" I'd probably have three reports a week in that section. grandad
  21. The jackets were all just about 150 mm long, too small to bother about. They would follow a bait up from the bottom and then school under the boat and follow your next bait down biting you off before you reached the bottom. Will try going north tomorrow and fish off Kurnell, will see if they are up that way. grandad
  22. Hi Raiders Left the port early, with the intention of fishing off Garie beach for Flathead. About 1km past Jibbon Bommie I passed over what appeared to be a very large bait school, so out went a bait jig. It soon loaded up and in came 4 leather jackets and 2 missing hooks. Dropped the jig down again to catch another 4 Jackets. Not looking good so moved on. Checked out the Marley wreck but 3 Seals were cruising around so didn’t fancy my chances of bringing anything up past them. Stopped a couple of times on the way to Garie but each time I lost rigs to the Jackets. This was repeated many times between Garie and back to Jibbon. Each drop came back minus hooks, sinker and Swivel. Returned home early frustrated and fishless. There’s never a Super Trawler around when you need one. Grandad.
  23. Went for a couple of hours fishing off Port Hacking this morning, Fished in 30 metres of water behind the Bommie. Water was alive with small Slimy Mackerel, Lovely size at 100mm. Had 20 livies in no time at all, with all that food in the water the fish weren’t that hungry, could only manage two nice Flathead before returning the livies back. Still it’s nice to come back with a feed. Grandad
  24. Hi Dave I bought one from one of the cheaper retail stores, It worked the first time I used it, the second time I got it out it would not work. It was replaced under warranty, The first time I used the new one it went OK, the second time I tried to use it, it would not work so it was returned to the store for a refund. I now have a Sunbeam food saver vac 440, it works fine but soon overheats, so I can only seal a bag every 2 to 2 1/2 minutes. If you buy one see if you can find out what the cycle time is. Hope this helps Grandad
  25. Now iv'e seen it all, on sale in a local retail store. Grandad
