  1. Great story mate and now I am sure you have the bug. Big or small you have gotta love that fight! I don't think I will ever get tired of catching them at any size, particularly on light gear. Best of luck and I hope that you keep on getting into them. Dave Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Hi Raiders, Merry Xmas and I hope you all got the bits of gear you wanted off Santa. I did and one of those bits was a bait pump - I really liked the idea of being able to pump fresh nippers whenever I wanted to and although I have been doing pretty well on my boat lately I love beach fishing and fancied turning those nippers into tasty whiting. Anyway my mate had told me he saw someone pumping loads of nippers at The Basin. I had a free day today with the wife at work and my kids out shopping do I thought I would kill two birds with one stone by walking there by the Basin Track from West Head to get my nippers and walk off my Xmas excesses at the same time. Walking down was the easy bit. Pumping the nippers was good fun and in about 90 mins I had enough in my livebait bucket. I put some cool water in with them and a little sand to make them feel at home. The walk back was like tackling the north face of the Eiger!!! I class myself as relatively fit but I was in bits by the time I reached my car again! Fortunately the nippers survived the ordeal and I now plan to put them to good use at narabbeen. The moral of this story - The Basin is a great place to pump nippers but take my advise and take the ferry over or go in your boat. I am now off to a servo to buy a few gallons of liquids and rehydrate. A knackered Dave Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  4. Hi wriggler1 I find it's best to have a short link to the lead and have around about 600mm to my livie. This lets the livie swim around more and also helps with distance. Its then a waiting game, find a good gutter and then its a waiting game. Good luck and I hope to see a successful report soon! Dave Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Great effort mate. I am heading out soon to see if I can follow suit! Dave Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I haven't heard them but I was talking to a guy the other day about Kingfish in NZ. I showed him a pic of my best at 22kg and he then went on to tell me about he used to get bored with catching them at 80kg! I would love to see that Dave Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. Great report Trung - I am not sure if I want to ask you for fishing tips or tips on how to get the wife to let me out fishing as much as you! Dave Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I was out with my dad flicking plastics at patonga and he hooked and landed the biggest shovel nose I have seen - that was hooked in the mouth. It was pretty funny, he was learning plastics and getting frustrated as he couldn't hit the flatties that I was and then I heard - 'yes I am into my first flatty!' I turned round to see his rod bent double and the clutch sounding. Like I said to him at the time - if this is a flatty then you will be getting your photo in the magazines. 10. I can't believe it - I put bets on 10 horses for our family and not one got a place. I am going to stick to fishing! Dave Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  12. Hey Raiders, Have any I you tried fishing a slider rig on the beach? I have seen it on a couple of web pages - in the states they even use them for sharks. You tie on your sinker only and use a grapple style or something that we hold well on the bottom. You cast your sinker out and make sure that it has a good hold on the bottom. You then attach this sliding rig which is effectively a lightly weighted coil that your hook length and big bait is attached to and hold your rod up high. The coil makes it non return and you let the current take your bait out to the sinker. The advantage of this seems to be that you can fish bigger baits at distances that you wouldn't be able to cast to. Has anyone tried them? If so do you know where I could get some? 13. Hi Chris, I find that the simpler the rig with lives the better (less to get tangled). I like about 2m Dave Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I just fish a barrel or ball sinker down to a swivel and then have a fluorocarbon trace off that to a circle. Dave Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. We were out of Pittwater on saturday, went north and fished off Box Head in around 55m for a couple of keeper flatties and a banjo ray. We tried our usual favourite drift off Palm Beach and some broken ground wide of there but nothing. At one point we found a load of bait mid-water and then a bust up close by - but a huge pod of dolphins got there before we did. That was a pretty spectacular sight, we also saw some great whale breaches but overall the fishing was quiet. Great day to be out on the water though. Dave Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. Hi Guys, Is there an easy way to compile gps co-ordinates on a home PC and then import them to the Garmin 551s via an SD card? This would be much easier than typing them into the unit one by one! Thanks Dave Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Hi guys, I have recently had a garmin VHF 100i radio and a 551s fishfinder/chartplotter combo and want to link them so that I can use the dsc function. I have seen the wiring diagrams but cannot work out what to do. Has anyone done this and can give me some pointers please? Thanks Dave Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Hi Guys I have really been enjoying going further afield in my new boat an want to give Long Reef a go this weekend. I have not been there before - can anyone please give me any advice on where abouts to fish and what species I can expect I would really appreciate it. Thanks Dave Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Alvey's are great reels for the surf as they are not bothered by a bit of sand and you can get some real distance with them once you get the hang of casting. It feels pretty weird when you first try it but stick with it, playing nice fish on them is a treat. I hope you get into some fish, I love beach fishing there is so much variety from small rigs/baits for whiting etc to throwing slabs out for Noah's and jewies. Get out there, find some gutters and I look forward to seeing your reports. Dave Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Hey Josamill, Do you fish from the shore at deep creek or are you in a kayak? Dave Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Hey raiders I am out trying to find this drift right now - can anyone tell me where it is? I thought it was due east of the hospital in around 40m. Any help would be appreciated Dave Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Thanks its's a formosa 550 half cab tomahawk - I'm really pleased with it, running it in right now Dave Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
