  1. I caught one couple of weeks ago. It was a longfin eel. I thought that I caught some weeds, dead weight, but then, this massive green snake wrapped itself around my line. At first, I was going to eat it because in Portugal I caught a large eel which the locals cooked up and that one tasted good. But after reading all the above posts, I am glad it never made it home with me.
  2. Talked with my dad the other day sharing our fishing stories and recipes. He reminded me of a simple yet yummy way to fry fish. Yup, deep fry..oooohh. Badder: Place all of there into separate bowls. Flour mixed with Hungarian sweet paprika. 1 beaten egg, bread crumbs Take fish, dip into flour mix, then egg then bred crumbs and into HOT oil. Make sure it is a fairly deep pan with lots of oil. Variation: Just put fish into flour mix and then fry. Once done, put onto plate and sprinkle with sweet paprika. I like it, some others might not.
  3. Yeah they also included a solid "Just shut-up....." It happeded after they tried the first time to gaff it and bring it to the boat. Well they missed and the Tuna just took off like a fat kid chasing a lamington."
  4. It happened at 415pm....so what happened? Hard to miss a chanel marker but according to the story, another boat almost suffered the same fate earlier. So maybe rough seas? Either way, accidents happen and glad everyone escaped with their lives and sustained injuries.
  5. That person definitely has more "balls than brains."
  6. Anybody watch this show last night (Strike zone)? They were fishing for tuna and boy did they get one. The one on the end of the show was huge 158kg if I recall correctly and 6hr + fight Great if you have a boat, or charter to get out there and catch these monsters. I am now trying to convince the to let me get on board of a one of these boats chasing tuna, or large fish. It's good for my self-esteem, self-worth and overall mental well being.
  7. Hey, Head down to Taren Point and visit Shimano Australia. It is located on Bay Rd. I have been there a couple of times to get my reels serviced. Great people, great service. And best of all, service is free, but have to pay for parts. Oh, if you don't want the reel, I'll take it...
  8. That is a beautiful boat. Hopefully it will attract fish as good as attracting people to come fishing with you...
  9. Should have gone for a fish today...why didn't I go.

  10. It sounds like I missed a great session aside from the phone thing. Congrats on the catch. If you're interested, I might head out this Thursday or Friday, or both...
  11. Hey, I have recently bought a kayak and was looking for an experienced person to fish with. If you don't mind, I'd like to join ya tomorrow. I fishing work around 230-3 though so I might be a bit late. But, should be there nevertheless.
  12. Hey BillyD, any time, any place, any where...that pretty much covers it. Just let me know and I would be happy to join, share the all the costs...even munchies. I love getting out of the house for fishing, plus, my work schedule is really flexible. My boss accommodates my fishing obsession.
  13. Hey, sent you a pm. I would like to go out tomorrow. Have my own gear, some experience offshore fishing. And I don't turn green and re-decorate your boat. Csaba - 0435 075 312 Did forget to ask, where? I am in Sydney and could meet around here. Thanks,
  14. Targeting: Not really any fish specifically, probably do spinning, using sinkers & pilchards, live bait...an all around general fishing. Rod Strength: 5-10kg Both: Mostly rock fishing, but might use it occasionally from the beach.
  15. I have a Okuma 9000 baitrunner that I was planning on using to fish from the rocks and beach. It's on a 12ft Ugly stick. Just wondering what type of line is most suitable for my type of fishing? I have lots of braid fishing line, so what strength should I load it up with? (Highest I have is 50lb). And then of course I would some type of a leader. Any recommendations? Thanks,
  16. I need to redeem myself from Saturday's unfortunate events... If you are heading out this week/weekend and have room for 1, give me a call, 0435 075 312. Willing to share the costs.
  17. I think that there should be a "tip-off" hot line. Just as in Canada, if you are at a local area and find people (filthy people fishing-don't deserve the name fisherman), who are committing these acts, call the number and usually goes to a Ranger's pager with location. He/She responds and cleans out the garbage.
  18. Aw man, that is sensational! Goes to show, there is fish to be had even in crappy weather. BTW, is that a rain jacket and if so, where did you get it? I am really keen to head out but have no rain gear. Thanks,
  19. I should be free, 30th seems good. Just location and time. Looking forward to landing/ catching a (1) blackfish.
  20. Following the fishing community advice, I got myself a Kayak. Its an Q-Kayak Escapade...yellow. It looks like a big Banana... I am looking for advice from people that have experience fishing from Kayaks. I have done lots of reading about safety, setup but I would like to experience the real deal doing some fishing. Anybody kayak master looking to take on a young "paddleone"?
  21. And here I was thinking of going into Botany Bay in a 3m Dingy with oars... Glad the wife talked me out of buying a small boat. In Canada I was fishing on my canoe in the middle of a rather large freshwater lake. In the span of 15 minutes the wind picked up and waves were growing larger. I had no motor, so began paddling. As hard and fast as I paddled I could not reach my destination. After becoming tired I decided to go with the wind and head to the other side of the lake where I got smashed up on some rocks. No injuries, but I had a 3hr walk around the shoreline dragging my 3m canoe back. Great fishing session. As for Botany Bay, I was there this morning on Bare Island with a mate fishing, and seen a small boat heading out...once the sun came up you could see the white caps of waves towards the opening of the bay...not nice weather. Oh, the Sea was angry this morning.
  22. This sounds like a fun filled day, count me in. So what is a blackie/blackfish and who wants to be my partner? Nah, I know what it is but haven't fished for them yet. This could be my chance at redemption from not catching anything worthy yet.
  23. Thanks for the help guys. After careful thinking, it would be better to stay on the land. As most of you said, a boat should get me to where land does not and a little Dingy would be dangerous out on the BB waters. Might as well save my money and spend it on traveling/ fishing trips/ gear. As I said, thanks for the help and comments.
  24. Oh I know, that was for amusement and high hopes. Tried the rod out this morning from the rocks. Seemed to cast ok, its nice because it is very light, easy to handle. However, my braid did end up in a birdsnest (might be the reel) after a few casts. The field study continues.
