  1. Did some research, and this rod looks very similar to the Daiwa Saltiga surf rod. Hopefully made in the same factory just re-branded...
  2. I just bought my first set of cleats ($13). Would like to seek advice as to which way to install them or if there is any secrets, advice, type of shoes needed? Does the small cleat go in the front or the large one? Should I just poke a hole through the bottom of my shoe and bolt on the cleats?? I realize that this might sound fairly simple but I don't want any "accidents" to happen on the slipper rocks due to poor assembly.
  3. I just visited a local store and after conversing with the "Fishing Guru" he lead me to some great deals....12ft Surf Combo for $39 reg $109, not bad I thought...after going through 4 sets, (all damaged) decided not going to happen. They did however have a 12ft Mojiko Surf Cannon Cast rod, all graphite, feels super light, fuji guides, etc etc for $159. After serious negotiations and "wheeling & dealing" the guy gave it to me for $75. Seemed like a good deal, I will try it out tonight on the rocks and see what happens. Will report back tomorrow. Anybody bought one of these rods or heard of them???
  4. I will tell/show you where to get squid if you take me to get Kings....deal/no deal?
  5. Great fish. great grins. But somewhat can't help being a little envious...not having caught more than a sunburn.
  6. Thanks guys, Here is the dingy I am looking at. According to research, this design is supposed to be more stable than regular hulls. Anyhow, I am only in Australia (Sydney area for 2more years, than heading to Camden for 1yr than back to Canada.) Only can really afford something small. Maybe I should just save my money and stick to shore fishing??
  7. Hello, I am looking at possibly buying a boat, or should I say, dingy. Probably around the 2-3m mark that I can float around in the Port Hacking area and closer to shore Botany Bay. I would use this mainly for fishing, probably launch from the beaches, and paddle around. I am seeking advice from you experienced boaters as to this being a smart and safe idea. Or another option is buying a Kayak I seen and fishing from that. Any help/ advice is greatly appreciated.
  8. Yesterday me and Jono2825 went out on a fish finding mission. Upon our late night return into Drummoyne area, we stopped near the Victoria Bridge for a quick fish. There was another boat in the area who just happened to be closer to the bridge and therefore closer to the oncoming Police or Fisheries partol. With lights flashing, they stopped at their boat and inspected them. We decided that we wanted no part in being part of their partol and it was 1130pm so it was time to call it quits. Back to shore, out of the water. After talking with the guys inspected, they coped a $250 fine for not having life jackets. Not the brightest idea, not having life jackets.
  9. Me and fellow angler Jono2825 went out into the Harbour yesterday for a fish. Launched from Drummoyne around 230pm and headed towards Grotto Point Reserve. Fished there for awhile, Jono managed to catch a few undersized ones. Nothing too exciting. Later on we drifted towards Balmoral for a fish. Mostly spent time feeding the fish. Near the evening we tried our luck near Middle Head using pillchards. On a whole pilly, Jonos' reel took off within 10min of fishing. It was something big, unfortunately due to multitasking complications it was lost. That was exciting and comical at the same time. That was it for that area. Headed to Clifton Gardens (6:30ish) using pillies, within 10min my rod took a big hit, then stopped. It continued, for a bit and I determined that it was a squid. Luckily Jono though, with his pilli (3hooks) took off and he reeled in MY large squid. Oh well, he was nice enough to let me have it...my belly says thanks! On the way back to Drummoyne we stopped by Clarks Point, seemed to be lots of fish. Once again, Jono caught small Bream and Snapper. All in all, it was a good day, better for some. I wasted most of my day playing with my new gear...trying to use a baitcaster reel.
  10. If there is one more sport open, I would like to throw my name into the hat. Would love to get out and learn. All in favor for BBQ and fish, hey maybe fresh fish BBQ?
  11. Your name: Csaba Your Location: Petersham Fishing technique: Know a lot of theory, but need some refinement e.g. setting up rigs, targeting certain species. Availability: Mon-Sun, mostly all day if I am not teaching. Some weekends. Preferred location: Sydney area Provide your own gear? Yes Provide your own boat? I do not have one. Extra info: I would like to learn how to properly fish from the shore and rocks. I would like to target Kingies and other hard fighting fish. I am what some people might call a "crude" fisherman who needs refining.
  12. Nice catch. That is a big jewie, if you don't mind answering, what did you use and was this in Sydney?
  13. Mostly fishing from jetties, and sometimes shore, (only rocks I know to fish from is Bare Island.). I guess, I am looking for the more versatile rod out of the 2. I think that I will try to get the Shimano rod as it is on sale for around 30, even though it is an older used model. Thanks for all the help.
  14. Well this explains everything, I have been using braid without leader and have only caught a sunburn... I will add a long leader of mono tomorrow when I head out.
  15. 13ft Pflueger Contender Pro rod (6-10kg) OR 8.5ft Shimano Taipan (3-4kg) rod? I already have a 8ft 6-10kg rod, and a 6.9ft spinning rod, so is it even worth to get something different? "I keep looking to buy new gear in hopes of catching a fish."
  16. Congrats on the fish . I am still hunting for my first real fish.
  17. I was thinking of going on Sunday, most likely LB because no boat.
  18. Headed out to Brighton Sands for some early fishing. Met a fellow who has been there since the early hours and caught nothing. With .05% expectations and a new bag of Gulp Saltwater worms I was hoping to catch whiting. 9am and still nothing, tried all sorts of plastics, even dipped them into attractant that guaranteed me that fish will go crazy for it. Nothing. 915am: A local lady comes there with her kid and a small cooler(esky). Within 30min she landed a large trevally followed by a large flathead. All this within 1hr. Feeling pretty de-maned, I walked over and conversed. Using chunks of pilchard in tuna oil. She just put a large chunk on hook and chucked it out. After all this, I am done with plastics. Spend my money on frozen pilchards, oil and mushing it together.
  19. I went beach fishing this morning and took some coles quick oats, little bit of hot water. Then I added this fish attractant I bought from Rays, (Stimulate, I think). Anyhow, when I put it on my plastics I get no bites, thus not having caught a fish yet. HOWEVER, mixed with the oats, put into a plastic container poked with holes attracted a crap load of bait fish, I mean there was a huge swarm trying to get at it. I guess Oats work.
  20. That is massive. If you want a good chuckle, read some of the posts. People get very passionate about cute, cuddly sharks dying. If the roles were reversed, it would have eaten the captain in a heart beat. It is sad to see that 40yrs old, and now gone, accidentally. Makes you think how much bigger sharks there are out there...
  21. I bought an used ugly stick and it came with a Shimano Nexave 4000FA reel. After quick complete take apart, clean and lube it seems ok. But anybody had any experience with these? If I wanted to sell it, how much should I be asking for it? Thanks,
  22. Hello all, Question 1) A local store has an Okuma Endurance Baitfeeder 60 reel for sale for $30. It was a return so it is used, has been repaired because the reverse switch broke (or something like that) I just need to know if this is worth it as I am looking for a larger reel to put on my 13ft Pflueger surf rod. Question 2) 10 or 13ft surf rod? If I can get a 13ft Pfluegerf or under 50 is it worth it although being 13ft? muchos gracias!
  23. I am also interested. I am in the process of getting my first 13ft rod, so while we go for blackfish, maybe I can get some tips on how to use the big monster. I would much appreciate any help you can provide...and maybe a fish or two. Sent you a PM.
  24. Fishing by Dolls Point at the end of Brighton Le Sands beach is usually good. Have been there couple of times, also with Woodchop (fellow member) and he caught a large Whiting. Others have caught trevelly, bream, and sting rays. Pretty good spot throughout the day. Try fishing in La Persouse Bare Island, haven't been there for a while, but used to be a good spot for squid and other small fish.
