  1. Nice catch...that is one huge squid. The areas where you mentioned the reef and squid ground is that accessible by kayak or would it be open ocean?
  2. If you have a Shimano and live anywhere within a reasonable distance to Tarren Point, visit the Shimano Service center. I just came back from there with my Sustain, fantastic service. An older gentlemen there told me that for my Sustain, I should NEVER put in the oil into the hatch, leave it as is. It is full of grease and sealed, why open it? Also, never wash or rinse your reel, use a damp cloth to wipe it down after each use. Seemed like a nice fella who knows his Shimano reels so its worth to heed the advice.

    Which Rod?

To fish....flyswatter...back scratch....chase the wife around.... Mostly using for SP and small lures chasing the usual, flatties, bream, and anything else that happens to bite.

    Which Rod?

I have the option of going with, both rods are similar, 3-5kg or 2-4kg, around 7". 1-2pc. Berkley Pro Team Soron SXT (exact same as a Dropshot rod - told this by Berkley rep) Pfleuger Trion rod Berkley: "The rod you have is a genuine Dropshot rod built on exactly the same blank we run our standard series on. That model is exclusive to certain stores, hence it’s different name and cosmetic to our standard run rods. You can be assured it has all the same quality components and will fish just the same as a conventional model. Tight lines" Can this be true?
  5. I have the Quest and love it. It is paddle not peddle so you do get the satisfaction of kayaking not riding a recumbent bike. It is the top of the line model in terms of paddling, otherwise, I would buy a Revo which is a quest with mirage drive and a bit longer. Nice fast, stable kayaks. I started getting a liking to the Outbacks just because it is wider and provides more space for my fat ass. Good luck though and I'm sure that you will be happy whichever model you get.
  6. Hey Geoff, I'm free every Tuesdays, and most weeks, Mondays and Fridays...sort of make my own schedule. Just let me know day in advance and I am usually in. As for spots, I usually fish Botany and Port Hacking from my yak. But not opposed to fishing new spots. I also have my own gear.
  7. Regardless of equipment, they are not worth your life. In saying that, to find a good reel that would hold up to what you are asking it to do would probably be expensive. But, decide on a price range first, then narrow down the reels to the best bang for buck. I use a Okuma Coronado CD90 Baitfeeder Spinning Reel and had no problems with it so far.
  8. I wouldn't call mine a technique, but as I was rigging up, I left my hardbody lure floating in the water about 10m from kayak. Sure enough, wham a trevally takes it for a good run while I fumbled to grab the rod. Tried it again, but it was getting dark on the bay.
  9. I was thinking of getting a fish finder to use on my kayak. I have searched the net, and found several models. However, I want to know if they are any good or just a waste of money? Norcross Hawkeye portable fish finder Hummingbird pirhannamax fishing buddy. These are two I am considering. There are other models available on "cbay," but they are not brand names.
  10. Here are a couple of toothy buggers to add to the ever-growing list of ugly things.
  11. Well if nobody else is going to jump up, let me be the first. Wen, I was looking to head out on my yak this weekend to test out the "Bismark's" capabilities. However, would rather be on a boat. I would pitch in for fuels, food, etc. The only problem is that I am not too familiar with the hot-spots. So it would be like the blind leading the blind. But fun nevertheless. Up to you mate.
  12. Oh and attached are the floating fish market in Ha Long Bay. The big fish are called GAO (I think, one that came up earlier was around 1m).
  13. Came back from Vietnam 2 weeks ago and while there managed to fish a little in Ha Long Bay. Needless to say, I caught nothing. However, did manage to get a few pictures of how the locals fish the waters and the open China Sea. BTW, I really think that some of those fisherman who were fishing far off shore in their 2m diameter round straw boats definitely must have had exceptional skills. Might make some people who need big boats feel inferior...lol.
  14. Hey welcome back dude. Glad to hear you had a good time and managed to . Post some pics of you have any of the fishing. If not, will keep in touch and arrange a cold fishing session soon.
  15. Thanks for the advice, but this thing is out of warranty. So I did decide to take it apart only to be stopped by a screw that requires a thin, long (+150mm) philips head screw driver. Its hidden and I cannot take the stupid plastic cover off without it. Off to Bunnings...as my wife laughs.
  16. I just bought a used Omega Altise APC12RC portable a/c and heats. However, it looks like the control panel took a nice shot and the buttons are stuck. As well as, the thing only turns on when I plug it in. Anyhow, anybody know where, who, how to fix this? I was thinking of just taking the whole thing apart and see what happens....
  17. Can't help to point out, if its off the coast of Newfoundland, that means they are Canadian...which re-enforces the fact that we have more "balls than brains." That, or we would go to many lengths to get our catch.
  18. Nice fish mate. I was out there in the morning on my yellow kayak. The water was crap early morning and I got hammered by the "choppyness." Did end up with a couple of Trevs on deep diving lures. Even some flatties hit them but they were too small. Anyhow, nice fish and nice reel (is that a Stradic?)
  19. How much cost per person? I might have 2 people to join on Sunday. Mostly depends on costs. Thanks.
  20. Ouch, that has got to hurt. Maybe a couple of tetanus shots might sting a bit too.
  21. Hey, I am going out to Botany Bay tomorrow staying close to the airport area if you want to come. Probably around 8-9ish. It has some traffic but mostly safe. Otherwise, as mentioned above, woollooware bay is a great spot to start out.
  22. After my wife pointing out that every time she sees me, I am on Fishraider reading something, I realized that I spend waaay too much time on this board. Just wondering, is it me, or do other people find themselves, checking Fishraider forums in the morning, during work, afternoon, evening? Am I loosing it or too much time on my hands??
  23. How: On the bottom of the reel, the switch is to activate the secondary drag which is controlled by the turn dial knob. So, put some line on it, and pull the line. Then try flicking the switch to notice the difference, then try adjusting the turn knob to feel out that drag. When: If you are using live bait, set it to the secondary drag and let the fish take the line out fairly easy. Then when you hear zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, wait and flick the switch or turn the handle to engage main drag. Thus beginning that battle. If I missed something or are incorrect please correct. Hope this helps.
  24. Thanks for the report. I might be heading out Friday on the bay for a session. Might I add, nice boat.
