  1. Hi mate,

Wash your boat as normal then spray ink stained areas with some bleach and rub in with a sponge, rinse off after a few minutes and stains will be removed.Have been doing my fiberglass and upholstery etc this way for years and doesn,t affect the boat gelcoat or interior in any way.

    Chris.

  2. I can relate to this with my dog a few yrs back my dog found the 3 large mullet I had out and placed on top of the bbq. They were to be used in my crab pots that night but were consumed by my dog instead and not even a scale left :ranting2:

Well he was fine too and I think it was a10 points meal in his eyes.

    Chris.

  3. Headed out early Thursday morning to fish near Lilli Pilli, certainly was rather cool motoring along in an open tinny.

Pulled out 2 tailor, about 40cm and just smaller, on salted tailor strips, also a bream of 28cm on the yellowtail line, though no yellowtail about. That was it, even the pickers were quiet in the deep water.

Pumped some nippers and drifted about for some time in different places until I found a few whiting around Lilli Pilli. 2 were 33cm, the other half dozen were undersize. At least the wind was almost non-existent, compared to the last few days.

Took a photo, but it has not come through on my G-mail account yet.

Dave must of been you fishing the deep as I motored down through the channel on far side.

10 points on pumping up the nippers, tried to make meng pump a few up but he was frozen :mfr_lol:

Good feed Dave for this time of year

    Chris.

  4. Leatherjackets are great eating especially the ones in the photo. But I do know one of the species you catch off Cronulla is not worth taking for a feed as I have been informed by meng and it is a dark coloured jacket.(not sure of name though)

Plenty of the small chinaman jacket around at the moment but very small in size though.

    Chris.

    Thanks ryder,yowie

The rat kings were easy caught yesterday following each other to the boat giving us good fun and good to see them in numbers.

  5. Nice varied catch man, lovely haul of squid.

I often wonder about leatherjackets. I've had some around the 20-25 cm mark as a by-catch when chasing bream but always chucked them back. Then the other week I saw them on sale at the fish counter in Woolworths. Just out of curio, are they good eating? I know there are different types, does the quality of the flesh depend on the species?

    Cheers,

    Adam

  6. Hi Raiders

Headed out today with Meng and started off in search of some kings, came across plenty of rats but nothing of size. We then headed straight down the coast for some flathead on the drift, but all fish caught were under size and leather jackets were a pain. Headed in close to the cliffs to have some fun and gather a feed of the bigger six spine leather jackets, also having fun on other reef species e.g. Trevalley, Sweep, Wrasse etc.

Picked up a feed of squid on the way home which was a nice way to finish off the trip before heading for home.

  7. A great catch and a top day, thank you for sharing.

Re your name do you own an 18 Ft Pongrass boat? In their day they were very popular.

If you do own one I would love to see some pics of it.

    Cheers

    Paikea

    Thanks Paikea,

My 18ft Pongrass boat was upgraded to a Caribbean 7yrs back.

They sure made a great boat back then and gave me plenty of pleasurable trips and was sold only due to engine troubles and was a very dry riding boat.

    Chris.

  8. Good job I cant wait to get out there as we'll ? If you don't mind me asking where do you get the squid from pm if you like thanks

Stephenb79 catching squid in your boat if you go outside can be done anytime of the day.

I didn,t start squiding till 2pm yesterday I stay in close and cast jigs around in 25 to 60ft of water in as many places to suit the weather on a given day and fish at the same time also.Squid aren,t shy and if you come onto a school they will let you know in one or two casts otherwise move to a new spot and try.I squid all the way along the coast they are found anywhere there is kelp the key is to prospect until you find them schooling up and don,t just sit in one place.

Dave great size snapper for the port.

its coming to that time of year alright out the front is a better chance.

  9. Hi Raiders

It's been a while since I've been able to fish and put up a decent post. Haven't been out in over 3 months and boy it was good to be out there again on home turf. Had the boat packed and ready to go from Friday night for Sunday.

Anyway, Sunday morning came along and Meng (gonefishing) turned up at my place at 5.30am ready to go. We hit the heads by around 7:00am and headed South to all our usual spots that we know to try and catch as many species as we could in one day. First fish in the boat was a kingfish which was landed on the troll not far from the heads but was just under so back in it went to hopefully grow into a meter plus kingie. Ventured further down South and drifted for a few hours catching loads of leatherjacket (small in size) and plenty of blue spot flatties, keeping half a dozen each. Beats bought fish which I've been having to do for a few months. There was also plenty of slimey Mackerel to be caught while we were drifting for the flatties.

Coming back up the coast we stopped at our usual squiding spots and managed 9 in total. Also having fun on the Salmon which were in big schools using lures. Also picked up a few reef fish and one Morwong before heading home.

    Had a great day out.
