  6. Hi Raiders

Decided to go out with Meng (gonefishing) offshore today to enjoy a good days fishing.

Out and about early on the water to gather some bait at the heads managing two squid and a couple of large trevalley plus some pillies which we brought with us. Seas were flat so we headed for Brown's getting there at a lazy 9:30am. Couldn't miss the mountain as I counted 28 plus boats all in one spot.

We dropped our bait just wide of the mountain and did the drift back towards the mountain keeping our space from all the other fishermen. Great fun we had managing our four gemmies in a couple of hours.

Our next mission was to try for some sharks and hooking onto a large Mako which we lost in the fight. Then hooking a blue shark which we got boat side estimate over 2 metres and my first blue shark I have ever hooked and seen, was cut loose boat side (sorry no photo's as we didn't manage to take any). Definitely thumbs up for Mako's as they give a better fight on the rod.

All in all was a good day and a new PB gemmie (110cm) for me.

    Chris

  8. Hi there, what sort of rig do you like to use with squid jigs, thank you.

    Hi leonardgid,

My rig is 15lb braid mainline and a 20lb XL leader fluorocarbon,Crystal blue 3-6kg rods, squid jigs of choice are the quality brands daiwa or yamashita ,sizes are 3.0 up to 4.0 depending on wind and structure in area you decide to squid.

    Chris.

  9. Good feed there Chris. Headed out early myself yesterday because of the good weather report, only to find the wind roaring out the mouth of Port Hacking, which made for a fast drift. Only 1 decent bite that did not hook up, no other hits so headed back early.

Dave I left my sea anchor at home yesterday so I threw out my two xl buckets and tied them off, they slowed the boat down really good.If that didn't work the bloody esky would of went out as a sea anchor :lol::lol:

Around 10 o'clock or so the wind dropped off so much there was basically no drift down along the cliffs.

At least the jackets are letting us enjoy a few good drifts

    Chris.

  10. Well done Chris. Do these flatties hang around all year long or are they seasonal?

BTW What dephts did you get the squid?

As long as the leatherjacket don't hammer you first the flatties are on all year, even the tiger flatties all the way out to over 300ft in water.

With the squid yesterday we picked up squid in close along the ocean rocks, making sure plenty of kelp was to be seen , depth was 16ft-35ft.

    Chris.
