  1. g.day raiders, just got back from a weeks fishing at swr, fri 26th arrived & tried for a jew in the river on the run out, caught 8 fork tail catfish between 3 & 5kg each, dont think i would like to eat these smelly fellas but they do fight hard. trolled to the fad sat morning for this 6.5kg dolly & spent the rest of the day off the jail, no marlin seen sunday morning lost a marlin on the way to the fad on my pakula cockroach but did catch plenty of stripped tuna. trolling livies in the arvo produced this 9kg yellowfin for stuart (his biggest fish) trolling again monday morning to the fad produced a 7kg wahoo plus a few more stripys we found the marlin on the chew finally when we got back to the jail, all the boats seemed to be getting a chance at a hookup, us included when chris hooked up for 5 min before the hook pulled. but it wasnt long before he was on again and while i was bringing in the other 3 lines one of those went off, rushing to the rod the run stopped and another rod went off and then the downrigger pulled out of the clip, all while chris was still playing his fish amoungst the numerous other boats around us, it all ended with a double hookup and i got my fish in cut the trace near the hook and got chris's fish in as well. 2 small black marlin wouldnt have been 20kg but they put up a great airial desplaytotal marlin for the day was 5 hookups and 3 landed plus a 13kg cobia on the downrigger. tuesday i got my 1st marlin on a lure after losing my last 3 hooked on a lure so i was pretty happy about that. so we changed our lures to halco laser pros & rapalas to try and get another wahoo but hooked a marlin on a laser pro. for the rest of the trip we hooked marlin on lures and live bait until the last day were we only got 1 strike and a lost fish on a livie. total marlin 8 from 14 strikes, more photos to come.
  2. yeh i have caught kingies on a bait jig a few times but on a light rod not a hand line & they were under size not legal, also caught a 35cm snapper once & twice i had a long fight with 2kg salmon while catching livies at the valiant wreck off lion island, great fun. Good work landing a keeper kingie on a handline. Next time i catch a sweep the fillets are coming off for a king.
  3. we fished walkers point friday night for 1 sml jew, 4 shovelnose, numerous eels & a sml hammerhead. we had some nice big livies out that got a second chance at the end of tide.
  4. sorry guys i forgot how to post pics but i think i got it now
  5. g,day raiders while in cairns on the annual family holiday i managed to get out for a fish in between white water rafting, snorkeling & scuba diving. went aboard Billfish with skipper rick & decky ronnie who were just fantastic to fish with & a laugh a minute. the crew consisted of me, my 16 year old son BJ and 4 pommie tourists. after an hour 1/2 to the inner reef fishing grounds the baits of swimming gars was fed out by ronnie and it was pommie no.1 doug who hooked up on the downrigger, a spanish mackerel between 40 & 50lb was soon beeing eaten by a pack of hungry sharks, then pommie no.2 duncan hooked one of the sharks and 20min later had the 20kg bronze whaler ? (i think) in the boat. then it was my turn on the downrigger and soon enough my first spanish mackerel was landed 6.5kg. my son bj was next and we all new it was a good fish when the ratchet started screaming off. 10 minutes later a 16kg 35lb spanish mackerel was landed, beating his previous biggest fish a 3kg salmon off box head. well the last two pommies struggled to land a fish with numerous pulled hooks including a lost Sailfish. but they did get a fish each, a small spaniard and a barracuda.
  6. g'day raiders on the 26th jan me and a few mates are going to south west rocks to target marlin. there will be 2 boats, one being fello raider spooled again and myself. i have one friend in my boat but would like one other to come along to help with costs and pull in a few marlin hopefully. we will be staying until sat 3rd feb. cabin accomadation is booked. will be leaving from whalan, near mount druitt anybody interest send a pm with your number and i will ring you with all the info.
  7. after reading your report i feel like i lost the fish, sorry to hear this most tradgic report.
  8. kilp, i fish alone all the time and i always pick a ramp with a pontoon or wharf, i drive my 4.75 quinnie off and on to the trailor and in 3 years i have not had my feet wet.
  9. i have a 4.75 centre consol legend quintrex with a millinium hull, splash deck and built in flotation. in the boat i have 2 batteries, radio, gps, mobile phone and i still try to get a mate in another boat to come out if we going out wide. i bought this boat because i spent a year fishing on a freinds quintrex reef hunter 4.75, crossing bars (swr) and spending plenty of hours at sea in bad conditions. the boat performed so well i bought my own. these quinnies are built for this type of work. and no i dont work for quintrex. you say you are new to boating, my advice is give yourself plenty of time to learn the ropes maybe in the harbour, its rough enough in there on a sunday anyway or pick a calm day and follow out a raider, there is plenty of experiance boaters on this site that im sure will watch out for you.
  10. calm seas & big fish, what we all dream of , congradulations on truely awesome fish
  11. would have to be a ray if it was bottoming out

    Spooled

i got spooled 2 years ago at south west rocks, i was fishing in the river with whole squid hopeing to catch a jew, shimano baitrunner 3500 with 125yards of 30lb fireline. took the bait near the jew bite and headed to sea at a great rate of knots, slowed down right at the bottom of the spool and i got 2 turns of the handle before it took off again and unfortunatly snapped off at the reel. much to the amusement of 2 fellos in a tinny trolling past. shark, stingray, jew and cobia ???
  13. junvenile cobia caught at the brooklyn road bridge.
  14. i also think its a cobia, you would be able to tell if it was a remore by a suction cup on its head. which would be unmistakable on remora of that size.
  15. thanks guys i'll get down to the pitt town sports club tomorrow
  16. g'day raiders could anybody help me with information about entering the hawkesbury classic ? last year it was on the first week in november. this year i thought i might get a few mates together and try our luck but i dont know how to go about entering. any help is much appreciated
  17. good work 1975 i lived in wello for a while about 15 years ago and fished the macquarie for cod, but never caught any, only rotten carp, although they do fight well. never thought to try chicken fillet. a friend of mine catches bream in the salt with chicken fillet. it helps to think outside the square in all types of fishing.

  20. ah blueboat glen your a fair dinkum legend mate, another 20 plus jewie, how many is that now ? my biggest jewie in the hawkesbury is still just 6kgs but i know i will get a big one because you keep proving their about. congradulations on yet another great fish mate.
  21. i,ve been getting plenty of jewies from 2 to 4kg up until last week but its all gone quiet this week. sorry for the late reply , ive been out fishin
  22. g,day raiders while jewie fishing my mate Barney caught this ripper bream in the upper hawkesbury on a whole squid, 8/0 hook right in the gob. the fish went 1.51kg and is the 3rd bream over 1kg we have caught while jew fishin this year. big baits catch big fish.
  23. that mackerel looks short and solid, do you think its a broadbarred ? rather than a narrowbarred that is. looks like you had a great trip, im going up to swr myself on the 10th feb for 4 days chasing marlin and cobes, but it looks like i'll have to head to grassy after your report. havnt caught a spanyard since karumba 1999. thier the best eating fish in my opinion. congradulations phar cue
  24. i was in a friends boat at the yellow bouy also around 10am to 2pm and the rats came on and off the whole time. i think we caught about 12 fish with only 1 being 60.5cm. we did pick one 64cm kingy up earlier while trolling a sluggo out the front of north head. in regards to fisheries i have been pulled up and my catch checked once about 15years ago in the harbour duering the week. i think there only on the water on working days.
