  5. yeah thanks for that dave, it was easier to get a nice fish that day
  6. Thanks royboy at the moment im useing a slr canon 30d. i use my camera on manual eg; the image below was 1/400 sec shutter speed so i had no problem with movement.
  7. thanks glenn, yes it's a terrific hobby or past time mate. i got into photography originally through fishing, snapping our catch some 25 years ago & it grew on me. first thing i pack on a fishing trip is my camera, sometimes getting a nice image is easier than getting a nice fish.
  8. Thanks mick we got some cod as well, between 2 boats we caught 30 cod with the biggest going 6.5kg or 74cm long Thanks b yes i know a little mate, i checked with admin but im not allowed to post my website unfortunatley. cheers brett It's the first time ive been down there Hodgey, it's fantastic for fishing & photography, i will be going back. G'day Ray that dead timber makes for eerie images your right mate. i would have like some mist over the lake in the early morning, but the weather was just too good, im going back in july to target some mist (& cod of course) cheers brett
  9. Here's a few pics from my trip down to Mulwala last week.
  10. myself & kiwi waynie hit windemere dam, waynie got a 42cm yella on his 2nd cast, before the southerly hit & the barometer plumeted. fished on switching lures all day for a few follows & half hearted hits, i think we were lucky to get that early fish.
  11. G'day bolts i reckon it was your bait mate, dont worry about how dirty the water is as jewies love it like that. try to use the freshest squid possible or as you were trying to do, a fresh yakka fillet. also i find the run out tide to be more productive for school jew at least. we caught 7 jewies last wed boat based but if you can get to the deep hole at the rail bridge on the southern side & use fresh bait u will get a jew sooner or later. im heading out for a short session tomorrow because of all the rain weve just had.
  12. I had a jumper similar to yours that my 75 year old father gave me for xmas years ago, my misses called it fugley (****** ugly) Good flatty mate, when u bring a flatty up try not to lift his head out of the water till u get him in the net and u wont get the risk of him sawing through your leader. also congrats on your first jewie, dont worry about the size mate a jewies a jewie eh. cheers brett
  13. G'day Raiders report from swr from last week goes 2 marlin 20kg & 30kg, 12kg cobia, few small dollies at the fad, hammerhead shark plague, we landed 5 and got bitten off numerous times plus we hooked a northern bluefin that got eaten by sharks, oh yeah also hooked a mako off the gail that jumped 12 foot in the air before escaping. This was between 3 boats so the fish were few and far between and a coupla long days on the water. water temp ranged between 26 degrees at the gail to 19.6 degrees at fish rock. cheers brett
  14. good stuff Peter A few of these images would look good as monochromes as well mate, cheers brett
  15. G'day osprey525 this weekend 6th to 9th
  16. Cant help it dave, u know how i love that bar.
  17. Thanks very much for your reports kero, roberta & excalibre. im heading up on friday & now im excited with the good reports you have given me, also just checked seabreeze and it doesnt look too bad, just mid strength nor-easters, hope there right. cheers brett
  18. G'day Stumpy Mate ive had quite a few hairy moments on the Macleay river bar and no matter how many times i cross it im allways nervous, and a few times i have turned around and not went out. The fishing at swr is sensational and because of this a lot of boaties risk the crossing when maybe they shouldnt. A local once told me you should move up here than you just go out when its safe. If there was a printing company in swr i would move there in a flash, i think i will have to wait till retirement. Sounds like your crew were lucky to have you skippering as you didnt panic and kept the boat going straight into the wave, dont worry about any damage to your boat mate, you got your precious crew home safley and thats all that matters. Im heading up there in a coupla weeks and im praying the bars calm. Last year i went up with Kiwi Waynie and it was the worst ive seen it, but we managed to get out every day with a lot of caution, if its that bad this year i wont be going out. Anyway im glad you got through your bad experiance to fish another day. Cheers Brett
  19. G'day F1sh3rm4n Ah this takes me back mate, my 1st trip with some mates to swr was in 91. & like u we couldnt get accomadation around xmas time so we camped at smokey cape beach for $5 to the ranger. We fished at Hat Head and my mate hooked a monster Jew only to lose it just before gaffing when hes small keeper hook straighted out (lesson learnt). Anyway we had a great trip and caught more fish in the river out of my tinnie than we were use to catching & i was hooked. So every year for the last 17 ive been going back, sometimes 3 & 4 times a year, i own a seaworthy boat now and chase marlin, cobes etc & every year i go there seems to be yet another memorable catch. Thats a great shovelnose capture & thanks for letting me relive some great times through your post. Next time u go try the breakwall in the mackleay river for Flathead, Bream, Jewfish, Moses Perch, Stingrays, Whiting, Estuary Cod, Tailor, Sharks, Cobia. Cheers Brett
  20. Thanks for he replies guys, im headin up in a coupla weeks so hopefully it improves. sml blacks just at coffs sounds good. cheers brett
  21. G'day Raiders has anybody been to south west rocks in the last few weeks or heard any reports ? any cobes, marlin, dollies or wahoo about up there at the moment ? cheers brett
  22. top shots Nick, too bad u didnt get a fish, that first one looked familar, is that mangrove creek just before you head up the hill. its a great spot, my father & sister own a caravan each at charlies place on mangrove creek. plenty of been had while trying to catch a fish over the years.
  23. whalan is near mt.druitt, i should also add we released 16 of the 22 & also drop another 12 fish, it was my first time to the north island and very happy with our results.
