  1. I have had a Striped Marlin take a large mullet shark bait ona 18/0 hook and wire trace Caught a bit bigger than a 1m kingfish off the bottomin about 90 fathoms of water on a whole striped tuna with a 18/0 hook rigged for sharks Caught a 180kg tiger shark with a red thong in it and a whole hoof of beef in its stomach As a kid I caught my older brothers dick with a prawn on the hook as I threw the line over the side with a snapper lead fishing outside. A little painful for him but don't worry I was ok. Try and explain that flesh wound at emergency without laughing. Still love to ask him if his tetanus shots are up to date. Cheers

    Darwin V2

Hi Paul, Its an awsome place and some amazing fishing. Every time I go up there I am blown away by its lanscape, the remoteness of areas. I would like to get there between March and April for the run off as they tell me the fishing is at its best during that time and the magic 1m Barra can become a reality. Paul, some great pics and I hope you get back to Darwin for another round. Cheers
  9. I have to take my son to soccer on Saturday and then its our annual trip to the Boat Show Cheers
  10. They seem to be a mighty fish with some real kick ass grunt. Great report and a good read. When you do get one please post a pic. Cheers
  11. Spanish Mackerel tastes great. A Fishraider trip to Darwin is not such a silly idea for a group of say 4 or 8 people doing a 2 day Barra Safri and a 2 day Bluewater charter forn Jewfish, sails mackerel and bottom fish. Allow 2 days travel and a day between charters. You you need 7 days and a few eskys to bring home the fish fillets. Air fares about $700 return, allow $400 accomadation share room and say $1400 total for the charters you should in theory get out of it for $3000 with some spending money I have now been up there 4 times and it is truley a great place Cheers
  12. While in Darwin recently for work I had the opportunity to go Barra fishing for a day and a day fishing for Mackerel. Both days were charters with everything supplied and very reasonable. I used Darwin’s Barra Base Fishing Safari and Arafura Bluewater Charters. Talk about being lucky these guys were fantastic and all quality gear. Barra fishing ($270 includes 4 WD transport) was at Corroboree Billabong about 90Km out of Darwin and the Mackerel fishing was $230 with 10 of us on a 42 Precision. Gotta say that is pretty reasonable fishing. Barra fishing we caught 12 Barra and lost one around the 90cm mark, plus a Saratoga, Tarpon and catfish. On the trip home we counted 68 crocs that we saw on the banks. While Mackerel fishing we bagged out in the first hour with 2 each and spent the rest of the day releasing them. I kid you not, but at times we had to stop fishing as our arms were tired from spinning and fighting the fish. If your up in Darwin it is well worth it to fit a days fishing in. If your after reef fish and jews then you need a lot of run in the tide and for the Makerel very little run brings them on. For some magical Barra fishing be there in the run off season Feb March April which is meant to be hot for all fishing up there. Cheers
