  1. Nice start to your Dad's on going love of soft plastics and lures. Just collecting them can become additictive Cheers
  2. Any details on the fish, eg line class, duration of the fight, weight and out of what port you were fishing and on what depth/fathom line She looks like a Striped Marlin of say 70kg? Big Congratulations on your first and the smile is well deserved. Cheers Martin
  3. Goods days fishing and some nice flathead to cap off the bream cheers Martin
  4. Hi Mike, Not a lot of fish for the hours you put in but a nice way to spend a late afternoon and early evening. Hope your next trip holds a few more keepers for you. Cheers Martin
  5. Flathead Albacore or Y/F Tuna Snapper If up north, then Coral Trout will be equal to flathead Cheers
  6. Great eating fish anf a true bread and butter fish When caught grab them in a towel or rag to remove the hooh with a hook remover or plyers. Bleed the fish and put on Iced salt water to keep the flesh is top condition. I always despatch the fish as quickly as possible so its not stressed. Come cleaning time I simply cut off the head and belly flaps. Fillet and skin the fish. No need to gut and scale and no bones no spikes. Now just dip in batter and fry till golden brown, add chips. Cheers.
  7. Dan, Thanks for that. Cheers

  9. Great catch of flathead. Your a man who enjoys his flathead fishing as I do. Just love catching flathead and better still when I come home with a feed, Great work and success well deserved. Cheers Martin
  10. Mate, I don't know anyone as devoted to a species of fish as you are. I don't think any one could question your success because you deserve every bit of it. You have a never give up and there must be another solution attitude to how you approach your fishing, always thinking. What I do question is how do you get so much time off to go fishing, now that’s a secret I want to learn or maybe you could have a talk to my wife and the company I work for. I love it when you fish Pittwater Kelvin, as that’s where I generally fish and if I am not out there your posts help ease the pain and give hope to those who need it, e.g. me! Kinda makes me feel I was out there. Oh, I forgot congratulations aaaaagain on those handsome kings, well done. Cheers Martin
  11. 90 minutes on a jewfish is a long time and to then have the hook pull is a real let down. What line class were you fishing and what bait??? Nice flathead you got there for dinner Cheers
  12. Not a great day out. Hope they fix it at their cost because the motor should not drop. All roads have bumps in them and its a fair and reasonable expectation that your motor stays up when you use what they designed to kep it up. I would argue the lock is not fit for purpose. Cheers
  13. What a top days fishing. I have never heard of so many Wahoo being caught in a day in NSW. You were certainly in a magic piece of water and reaped the bounty. Tuna, dolphin fish and Wahoo, now that's a tropical feast for the BBQ. Then to cap it off with a Marlin. Your point score for the season is off to a great start. Well done and congratulations Cheers
  14. I have bleed, gutted, gilled and scaled fish, as this is OK. Bleeding fish is always a good thing to do and then get them on ice as a minimum to keep your catch in good condition for the table. Fisheries want the fish to be in such condition that they can check on size. Have had fisheries check the catch when I had gutted all the fish and never blinked. Cheers
  15. What a champion size bream Cheers
  16. Is this a native fish to Sydney/NSW or is it the result of a ship that emptied its balast tank releasing frogien species? Cheers
  17. Hi Dan I had a Matrix 17 on my old boat for about a year before I sold the boat. I was happy with it and would consider buying one again if that is where my budget was. The Furuno it competes with is the 4100, I think, and is of a similar price. The Matrix has a few more features. I am considering buying a new sounder for my current boat and would be happy with either the Matrix 17 or the Furuno 4100 in that price range. I would most likely go against the current consensus and run with the Matrix 17 again as it has a few additional features and is good value. I am a bit like yourself in I have a price range and want value for money. The Matrix was easy to use, dual beam and covered the fishing I did, Pittwater the Hawkesbury and the odd trip outside every now and then. I did not run with the speed option as I was happy with temp and depth, Hope it works out for you Cheers Martin
  18. Another two brands are White Cap Northbank Both are manufactured in South Australia, I think Cheers
  19. You could not ask for a better opening to your season than to get a marlin first trip and raise another. There seems to be a few Striped Marlin around so lets hope its a sign of a great season to come. Well done guys and congratulations Cheers Martin
