  1. Good job, effective session. Mind if I ask which beach you were at?
  2. Over the years, I have been hearing wonders about Coniston beach but I have never been there myself. Today, for the first time in months I decided to catch up with some mates over a couple of hours of beach fishing. We headed out to Coniston beach at 4pm, caught most of the running out tide and fished till 7pm. We originally had in mind a quick fish and also ran out of bait I caught: 1 Salmon (over 50cm) 1 Tailor (40cm) 1 Flathead (45cm) My mates: 3 Tailor (2 x 40cm and 1 around 35cm) 1 Salmon (over 50cm) Not a bad catch for a couple of hours fishing. Weather was perfect and it was good to finally get out again and fish.

    Surface Rust

Just wondering if someone could help me in regards to some surface rust. I had used my boat frequently over summer, and managed to wash it after every outing. I then stopped using it for over 8 weeks now as I moved up to Sydney for work, and last time I went back home to visit I realised lots of surface rust around the trailer axle, suspension and tyre rims. The rust doesn't look to be serious, as a matter of fact I washed the trailer again and gave it a quick brush and it seemed like lots of it came out. If anyone could help me out and let me know how to remove the rust, and also let me know what I must have done wrong since I always washed down the boat after every outing. Never really washed it down with soap though, mostly just a freshwater wash.
  6. I do lots of beach fishing but with heavier gear for mainly Salmon and anything else out there. Could you tell me what kind of gear you use for smaller fish, well the more edible fish really
  7. Not sure about your local tackle stores, but I live in Shellharbour and our local tackle stores stock these. I usually buy the smaller size for fishing Bonito off the rocks. Maybe not $20 but they are easily around the $15 mark from memory.
  8. Hey Raiders, I was just visiting my brother in Melbourne and recently he has just started to fish again since moving here. I was just wondering if anyone has any tips for where to fish around Melbourne (land based)? Is there many people that use this site from around Melboune. Cheers

    Prawning

Feel like I jumped the gun with that question, ended up finding the answer on this post: http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=59253&st=0&p=422837&hl=prawning&fromsearch=1entry422837

    Prawning

Hi All, It's a long time since I last went prawning, and I wasn't exactly the professional. My question is when is the best time in terms of tide and moon phase? Cheers

    Fish Id

the first pic is definitely a silver trevally, usually the smaller fish have a yellow stripe through them but I read before that it may also be the case with some of the larger fish. no clue on the second fish but interested to know.
  12. Finally went on the trip, and all was well with the trailer and towing except for losing the handle on my winch along the way. Fishing however was terrible, and weather was even worse. Next time I go Melbourne, probably fly out and leave the fishing for back home.
  13. wow, thanks for all the help guys. Really appreciated.
  14. Hey Raiders, Just a quick question, silly one I might add. My boat is fairly light, only a 3.9m fibreglass and along with the trailer weighs within 460kg so overall very light. My question is, what should the tyre pressure roughly be? Is there a certain weight to pressure ratio? Any help would be appreciated as I will be heading down to Melbourne in 2 weeks and need to make sure everything is in good order. Cheers

    What is this?

It definitely does look like a blue groper but never seen that colour. Like you said, probably the transition phase maybe..
  16. I was actually interested in getting into freshwater fishing so I read up about Fitzroy Falls, but then when I went to explore the area (land based) I was told to not even bother by a few locals fishing that day because there is nothing but carp. Like they say from time to time they get the odd bass but usually plenty of carp, never really caught neither but then decided to stick to saltwater.

    Your rods.

Usually keep a few in case some mates tag along that don't have rods, but if I end up with too much I just start giving away.
  18. That's a beast, must be thrilled. How long did it take you?
  19. Try the port kembla southern breakwall, walk about 200m up and cast out on the ocean side. Just fish with a regular running sinker to the swivel and then a heavier trace. You won't get snagged there as it is all sand (unless you go up towards the end it becomes snaggy). Also if you travel around, Corrimal and Bombo beaches usually hold salmon most of the time. Use a pyramid sinker on a paternoster rig and make sure you are fishing the gutter. Pilchards usually never fail, but most fish baits will get salmon biting. And always remember that usually when you catch one salmon there is more around. Let me know how you go..
  20. I have been told in a situation like that, you just cut the line as close to the mouth as possible and release the fish.

    Braid Type?

Thanks for the advice, I might try some Tuf line since no one has tried powerpro.
  22. I have carried my own fish back before packed and frozen in an Esky, it was one of those soft bag eskies. But like I said I travelled with it and brought it back with me as luggage. There is also another option which is to freeze them and pack them in an esky then ship them back but that is usually done using a freight forwarder and you might just need to check if they will do personal perishables and how they will pass them through quarantine upon arrival. Like I said all freight forwarders do commercial but some will do personal, try the following for personal: Link Logistics Ph: 02 9669 1533 Contact: Ask for Lisa or Hailey Like to know how it works out. Cheers

    Braid Type?

Hi Raiders, Finally I have decided to write up my first post on this site, and would really appreciate some help. Recently received a Shimano Curado 300E reel paired with a Shimano Raider Mexican Fire Baitcast 6'2"(6-10kg) for my birthday. Since this is my first baitcaster I am really struggling to select the right braid for the outfit. I plan to fish with lures and unweighted baits from the back of the boat, and my boat is only a small 13ft so would only be fishing close to the shoreline, Jervis Bay, Port Kembla, etc. Basically after Braid that casts well and really don't know how to choose. After reading various reviews I was leaning toward brands like Shimano Powerpro and Tuffline, purely on the fact that anglers have reviewed them as good braid for casting. I was looking at them in the 20lb range. Any thoughts would be much appreciated, as this is the first time I will be fishing with this type of outfit.
