  1. Hi All, I was just looking for some advise in regards to going after Blackfish, I rarely fish this time of the year but now I am interested in trying something different. Could someone please point me in the right direction. The location I will be fishing to begin with is Lake Illawarra, I always see black fish fishermen there and some of the pointers I am after are: When is the best time? When is the best tide? Best rig? (Floats, sinkers, hook, etc) Technique? I will be heading to the tackle store on Friday to get the bits and piece that I am missing, so any advise is appreciated.
  2. I am not an expert but have prawned a few years back, I never really seen anyone prawn in winter. Always seen it done towards the end of the year and into the new year. Are the prawns even around in winter?
  3. Perfect weather, great fish. Again spewing about the lost ones. Thanks for your help.
  4. Hey, I was actually signing on to ask how you went. Well sounds like you had a good time, spewing about the bust offs but that's fishing. If you have any photos it would be awesome. So you are saying you had luck near the oyster leases next to the boat hire place? Like is there any easy way to reference it, where you moored or anchored? Wow I really can't wait now
  5. Thanks heaps for sharing guys, I grabbed myself a couple of packs of gulp, and a couple of Squidgys so I will be trying and hopefully land my first fish on SPs. Thanks again
  6. Excellent session again, welldone. Where you fishing landbased?
  7. Well mainly river type fish, but mainly Flathead, Bream and Jewfish (if I am luck) would be awesome. The real challenge would be to try and catch my first fish on SP I guess. Thanks
  8. Hey Raiders, I am about to try fishing soft plastics for the first time, will be heading out to a house boat on the clyde next weekend and thought it might be a good place to start. Already have my rod/reel outfit and now time to get my hands on a variety of different SP packs. I know the selections always come down to personal perference and what works on the particular day but this is my first time so I wouldn't even know where to start let alone have a personal perference. If someone could suggest a few "must have" or what has worked for you that would be great.
  9. There is usually a lot of guys there but mainly to fish and mind thier own business, so I don't think it's bad to fish there at night on your own I have done it before. But you need to remember that now they lock the gates there, so if it's night fishing you want you may need to commit to being locked inside from something like 7pm - 7am. Your other option is to park your car outside the gates, take that very long walk down to the breakwall and fish for as long as you want then walk back. It's a lot of walking but saves you from being locked in, but seriously a LOT of walking. To be honest, I would rather go with a person just for the safety of me slipping or needing assistance.
  10. Lucky you, I am going the following weekend not this one. Weather should be good this weekend so all the best. Make sure you give us an update, can't wait to hear from you. Good luck and enjoy your weekend

    SP outfit

Thanks heaps for the answers guys, so confused right now. The only reason why I want to spend about $100 is based on the fact that I am only just getting into SPs, haven't really tried it yet. I have a Shimano Raider in a heavier class and they are great and yes I have already seen the Sedona online (no need to mention the site ) I guess I will have another shop around till I am satisfied otherwise I will wait for a decent second hand deal.

    SP outfit

Ok, so this really has been picking my brain for a week now. I am looking to add to my collection a light setup (2-4kg rod, with a 2500 model reel) mainly for soft plastics, and some estuary fishing. I was looking to only spend about $100, and I always seem to lean towards Shimano. I have shopped around and some of the offers were: Shimano Sahara 7ft 2-4kg with Sedona FD 2500 Shimano Sonic Pro 7ft 2-4kg with Shimano Accort XT 2500 (I have never heard of this reel brand) Berkley dropshot soft plastics outfit (I know nothing about these rods) I am yet to do more shopping around this weekend, and probably decide and purchase an outfit. Most of the above are either just under $100 to about $120. Any help would be appeciated, like I said I favor Shimano but open to suggestions.
  13. Yea good luck, I couldn't find a break in the rain down south.....

    Cobia?

It does look different than our Cobia in Australia but according to this website it is a Cobia. Cobia in the Arab Gulf I noticed that when I go to another country, their fish looks slightly different. For Example the Snapper found in the Mediterranean looks slightly different again than ours.
  15. I know many people that eat them and don't mind them at all. They smell while alive (especially when you clean them) but once cooked they say there is no smell. Also a good bait.
  16. Ye, the rain is a bit worrying but hopefully it eases off. Which weekend are you heading down there? I will be there on the last weekend of June.
  17. That's fine josamill, the more information shared the better it is for everyone.
  18. Wow excellent catch, welldone. Any chance you can share what type of blades (brand, colour, etc.), I have been slowly try to get into lures and SPs for Flatheads.
  19. Tell me about it, I really can't wait. Well goodluck, enjoy and make sure you give us an update when you get back
  20. Wow, what a coincedence. I am also heading out late June, and I posted the exact same thread as you with some really helpful responses. Here is my thread: Batemans Bay (Clyde River)
  21. Those catfish are nasty, nasty spike to them too. Thanks for the info again, really wonderful to get so many pointers. With the SPs, which one, and what size would be recommended for targeting a Jewfish? I am also guessing that a Flathead would take anything targeted at a Jewie, I head Flatheads take almost any SPs.
  22. Nice catch, where they off the beach?
  23. Well that's good news, I was sort of dreading the cat fish. That's strange tho, because I remember they were there in abundance.
  24. So strange, I could have sworn I did all that before but now it worked. Thanks heaps.
  25. Not sure if this is the right section to post this, but I am having trouble signing in with my phone. Last weekend, I accidently entered the wrong password twice while trying to sign in off my Android. Now and ever since I get the following message when I get to the website off my phone: [#2000] You are not allowed to visit this forum. Any help with this matter would be appreciated..
