  1. The guys are spot on with their methods, just another quick simple one that will work is a suspended Pilchard under a float. Very similar to the live bait rig just described, however you can use gang hooks or a 2 hook set up. If using lures, as also mentioned, don't hesitate to retrieve as fast as you can. Bonitos have incredible acceleration and will not struggle to catch your lure.
  2. Well worth the wait, 80cm king landbased is a fish to remember on all scales.
  3. Well done mate, top fish and top efforts. Did you measure the fish by any chance?
  4. Is that an edible fish? If so, is it nice?
  5. That's unfortunate, well there is always next time. Where you surface fishing? Scorpion fish are the red rock cod looking fish with spikes everywhere ye? Well I snuck in some beach fishing at Thirroul today with my cousin, wasn't the best either.
  6. How did you go? Any luck?
  7. Congratulations, Cracker Cod very impressive Just out of curiosity, biggest bag of Carp. How many carp was that?

    Squid

wow, good effort. I am struggling to catch my first squid still.
  9. Worst thing about the one that got away, keeps me up at night some times..
  10. Sounds better than work, good on ya
  11. What the.... That's crazy and very scary. Hope there wasn't too much damage done. Nice King by the way
  12. Definitely not too long, we had the Adventure model on the roof rack and I think that model is around 5m+. I have seen Hobies on the top of hatchbacks, so you shouldn't really have a problem. As said tho, if the Outback weighs 50kg, then that's quite heavy and maybe you should get some assistance loading it on and off the roof racks.
  13. I am sure some guys on here actually own Hobies and regularly fish off them so they can probably help more. I was very interested in these at one stage, and constantly used to use my friends on. My friends one however was the Hobie Adventure, they are longer in length and narrow. More suited for the open ocean, but much less stable than some of these models. To the best of my ability, some answers to your questions; Do i necessarily need a trailer for one of these or can i attach it to the roof via roof racks? We always attached them to roof racks, I have not really seen anyone of them towed yet. Are they user friendly; ie: easy to use on the water, easy to launch, plenty of "safe" storage? They are a very easy system, I have heard these models are very stable too and yes there is storage. Usually I have a dry bag that I keep my wallet, etc in and that way if it goes overboard for what ever reason it actually floats. What Sounder/Fishfinder would be suitable for use on this kayak. Most models will fit as long as you have a battery pack, there are videos on youtube to assist you. Here is a few links to youtube videos that can help you more. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvnPUJsMEto
  14. Wealth of information there, thanks heaps "mullo up". Got me keen to keep presisting, and the mullet idea is priceless I will take my trap next time. I know where Thirroul beach is so that's another option, and is Garie beach the one in the National Park? I know what you mean, like the sand does get into everything and places you wouldn't imagine. I am only ever concerned about my gear, it's not all that expensive but would still hate to replace it. If that was me catching a Jewie, I don't think you can imagine how loud I would be cheering
  15. My only problem with beach fishing is the mess of cleaning up after it when I get home. But I enjoy sitting there in waders and relaxing while casting out big bait for a Jewfish hopefully. Everyone says they catch Bronze Whalers too off the beach all the time and even though that doesn't really interest me, it would definitely be amusing catching my first one of that too. I have targeted the Jewfish for some time now, and would really love to catch one and the beach seems like an ok place to try.
  16. Just as long as they do exist in Winter, I know i am not just freezing for no reason at all. What other fish is normally caught off the beach in Winter as well? Is it the usual, Salmon, Tailor, Bream, etc.? These conditions are terrible, I have never experienced them so bad until I fished Coniston beach and now Stanwell beach.
  17. Never actually seen anyone catch a Remora, are they a good fight?
  18. Ye I am still doing the hours. This should be the first time I might try to fish through the cold days, usually by now I would have packed away my fishing gear till later in the year. I hear you can still get jews throughout Winter
  19. Sounded like a great day, great report. Is that actually a Cobia? It looks more like the fish that sticks to the sharks
  20. Hey guys, thanks for the response. It was a good night like I said, a bit unfortunate about the current but you can't win every time. A few raiders recommended before that I look at the swell direction, etc when it comes to beach fishing and to be honest I did but still wanted to leave the house. Well I heard it was a good beach for jews but no luck this time.
  21. They are different, Yellow Tails or Yakkas are actually called Yellowtail Scad. The Yellowtail Kingfish is a sub species from the Yellowtail Amberjack. Scientifically they are in the same family, however they are not the same species at all.
  22. Hey Raiders, I went out for a fish last night at Stanwell Park Beach, unfortunately the current was really strong pulling my line instantly to the left again. (I had actually never experienced it this bad until my last 2 beach fishing trips.) There was no fish caught as I struggled to overcome the conditions, I was fishing from about 4-8pm and the weather was perfect. I heard lots of good things about this beach, so thought I would give it a shot. Not the best first attempt, but has anyone fished this beach regularly? And normally, how good is it? What amazed me last night is that there were heaps of fishermen on the beach, especially as we got near the high tide, the beach was fairly packed. Just wondering if there were any raiders fishing this beach last night? If so, did anyone catch anything worthwhile?
  23. It's a tricky questions, I have caught 2 different Salmons at 58cm however one weighed 4.2kg (my heaviest so far) and the other 2.4kg. I even caught salmon at 62cm and it only weighed around 3kg. My guess with your one is probably no less than 2.2kg.
