  1. G'day Kriko, I just got a 42lb electric for my 11ft tinnie which should be plenty for the Scanoe. Haven't hooked it up yet but check out my thread on some of the cheaper models which were on sale at *****. $229 for the 42lb and I still saw them on sale last week. The fact that you'll be using it in freshwater is also a bonus as you don't need to worry about the salt water versions. Good luck Marty
  2. Hi there, Just wondering whether anyone has had any experience with electric motors under the brand name Sport Fisher I saw in the latest Kmart catalogue they are selling electric trolling motors under the brand name Sport Fisher. $229 for the 44lb model $299 for the 54lb model These seem pretty cheap so was just wondering whether anyone has used these before. At this price I am guessing they are freshwater models. Here is a link to the ad http://www.kmart.com.au/catalogue/20060406...758/Page_20.jpg I am thinking of getting one for my 3.4m Savage Gull and also wiring up some nav and anchor lights for night fishing. Can anyone recommend the type of battery I would need to serve powering duties for the electric during the day and the lighting duties at night. From what I have read, the recommendation is for deep cycle batteries for electric motor duties and marine batteries for lighting duties. Also my 9.9 Tohatsu has an alternator on it tha can serve to charge the battery as well. Not sure if I can have the best of both worlds but if anyone could help with a 'general' battery for use that would be much appreciated. Many Thanks MartyMonsta
  3. Top fish Moonlite, can I ask where in the Hawkesbury you nabbed him and the bait? Top fish Marty
  4. G'day Cam, I too have a 9.9 Tohatsu on my 11ft Save Gull and can vouch for its smooth performance on such a small boat. I'm very happy with the ride of my Tohatsu. What model hull have you got? Nice crab too! Tight lines. Marty
  5. Sorry its taken me a while to reply back on this topic but I eventually ended up going for a dealer service and can wholeheartedly recommend Huett Marine Centre at Cowan for service. Dropped the 9.9 Tohatsu off on a Saturday morning with mention of no rush as I would pick it up the following Saturday. Even though the little motor was running OK, it was more a matter of peace of mind after buying a 2nd hand engine minus a service history. In the end the total came to $138 for a 2 year service (including new impeller and all sundries) and the lady at the dealership more than happy to answer any "I'm new to boating" questions. Much better than the $230 + parts quote I was given earlier... Just goes to show it pays to shop around! I know who I'll be sticking with next time. Tight lines everyone
  6. I agree with you guys wholeheartedly, I mean how long can we sustain this pillaging of our natural waterways??? Maybe the only thing left for us to do in the end when there are no more wild fish stocks would be the same as they do in Vietnam with the farming of their bloody Mekong Catfish, or is that the Basa.... or Pacific Dory, as shown in the Today Tonight story about a month ago. Don't even get me started on that bloody naming convention Sorry, that's my 2 cents worth. Not sure what can be done about the over-trawling issue.....
  7. Does anyone know the length or kgs? Would be interesting to know....
  8. Thanks Manama, am just waiting for the outboard to come back from service before heading out to hopefully catch myself a Kingie or two. The digi cam will be coming for the trip also so will post pics of anything caught. From what I've heard the harbour is fishing quite well with the current ban in place! Tight lines everyone...
  9. G'day everyone, Just wondering whether anyone can recommend a good outboard mechanic (mobile or workshop-based) in the Castle Hill/Hornsby area. I also work at Ermington which is another option. I've recently purchased a 99' model Tohatsu 9.9hp 2 stroke and have been quoted $230 + parts for a standard 12 month service for this outboard at a workshop. This is my first outboard so don't have any previous experience. How does this compare with any of your own quotes? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks Marty
  10. Thanks blackant and to everyone who's given me ideas (I'm just checking out the spots mentioned on a map). What would be the closest boat ramp to launch from to get to these sweet spots? Thanks again. What a great site this is! MartyMonsta
  11. Thanks Bombora, know all too well what you mean re the rich prats! Just gotta get out there now!
  12. Thanks Ken, I reckon that'll be the next trip out! Will post the details of any results. Cheers
  13. G'day all I'm new to Fishraider and also to boating. Bought my first boat (12ft Savage Gull with 9.9hp outboard) in December and have been out a dozen times for far with varied success at Berowra Creek, Mooney Mooney and Mullet Creeks targeting Bream and Flathead with light line and small lures. I also have a heavier outfit (4-8kg 5ft 6in Ugly Stick mated to an overhead reel and 6kg mono) which I would like to use to try my hand at fishing for Kingies which sounds pretty hot around Sydney at the moment. Question is, are there any kingie spots accessible to a small boat of my size? Not sure if I am being too ambitious in targetting this new species or whether I should just stick to the sheltered estauries? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks MartyMonsta
