  1. I heard from someone there was a big kingie in that fish tank at the end of day 1 that one of the competiors caught in the harbour on bream gear. Any details / pics? Marty
  2. Mainly in the legs yeah and some cardio...fighting fish gives the upper body work out :-) I do use the paddle on mine occasionally just for something different but I'v heard that the Outback can be a bit of a pig to paddle compared to some of the sleaker models in the Hobie range. Have fun Marty
  3. Hey Mick, You won't know yourself mate. Kayak fishing rocks! I've had a Hobie Revo for over 2 years and it's excellent. There are quite a few kayak fishos around Syndey (if that's where you are) and although I don't get out as often as I used to plenty of the boys get out more regularly. Fighting kings off them too is insane - sitting at almost water level is a totally different ball game to fighting them standing up off a boat - also trying to stop them from pulling you overboard! You won't regret it! Welcome to the dark side (pedal instead of paddle!) Marty
  4. Nice catch. What sort of fish is that above the squid on the brag mat? Marty
  5. Hey Dogtooth, Is that a Daiwa Oceano 4500J in the background that did the damage on the king? If so, very impressive. I have just bought one so am keen to find out how it held out. Do you have any impressions of the reel? Cheers Marty
  6. Hi guys, Trying to decide on a fairly lightweight jigging rod to use off my kayak for the inshore reefs around Sydney. Budget around $250 - $300(max). To be mated to a Daiwa Oceano 4500J with 30lb tuf-line XP and jigs up to 150-200gm but usually lighter. I'm tossing up between a Shimano Jigwrex S5103 PE3 and a Daiwa Monster Mesh MM 582MS-SIC Spin 5’8” Med Fast 80–150gm PE 2–4. Am leaning slightly towards the MM at this stage but would appreciate any feedback or suggestions. Options from left field include the Pioneer and Rapala Braid Concept rods for slightly cheaper (have heard and 'seen' some of the negative feedback on the Rapalas but seems to be due to more drag pressure than I could ever apply out of a yak)... Thanks in advance Marty
  7. Ouch! Just goes to show the value and importance of wearing eye protection when fishing. Marty
  8. Out of the reels you mentioned I'd be going the Daiwa Advantage-A model. Excellent reel. Marty
  9. That Baker looks like a big Grinner from the photo angles. Great size!
  10. There is a boat ramp at Berowra waters, no dramas launching from there mate.
  11. Hi guys, I have heard of the flesh turning mushy in the past but haven't experienced it myself. As I enjoy Sashimi'd kingfish, does anyone what would happen if you ate the infected kingy raw? Or has anyone eaten part of a kingy raw, cooked the rest and discovered it turned mushy? Any side effects? Cheers Marty
  12. My choice - Penn Spinfisher Big Game My link Can be found for under $100 Marty
  13. What about a Daiwa Exceller DA 2000 or 2500 for $140?
  14. For the rod the Penn Spinfisher Big Game in either 10' or 11' is great value at around $75 - $80. I use a Baitrunner 4500 with mine so can't help you with the reel suggestion sorry. Check them out. Awesome value for the rod. Marty
  15. Hi mate, Lure or bait fishing for the snapps? Do you fancy graphite or glass? If glass the Silstar Crystal Blues are tough and fairly light and I've got one matched to a Baitrunner 4500 which is a good match I've also got a 7' Okuma Trinus graphite rod but in a heavier 7-12kg weight range mated to a 3500 Daiwa spinning reel for fishing with soft plastics and the like for kings. Has been a grunty rod so far. Both retail around the $150 mark. Good luck with the decision and let us know how you go! Marty
  16. Abu Garcia Soron's are a nice reel too and come in blue. Marty
  17. Thanks Ray. Had a nice birthday with my 7 week old baby boy (1st birthday as a dad). Haven't been out fishing for ages and with all of the great recent catches around Sydney am hanging to get back out there!!! Marty
  18. Check out the Hummingbird Matrix 12 which comes in at under $300 (which you can upgrade to a GPS receiver later if you wish) or the Eagle Cuda 350 S/Map which you can buy for $40 more which has 16-level grey scale and is GPS-ready. Good luck with the purchase Marty
  19. If you are going to attempt to catch this resident blue, get someone to film you while you hook up, post it up on YouTube and we can all see what happens
  20. I also went out with Jamie back in May with a mate. Caught nothing on the big poppers near snapper island but we were lucky enough to pick up a couple of spaniards and a golden trevally on live bait. Missed a couple more spaniards trolling large hard bodies. Jamie's a top bloke. Shame you didnt catch anything decent while up there. Better luck next time Marty
  21. Great report mate. I've heard some good things about the ET sea sickness pills you mentioned. What are they called and where can they be purchased if you don't mind me asking. Thanks Marty
  22. Try pedalling a Hobie kayak with this on your lap! Yaks rule
  23. Thanks mate, just had a look. Definitely is. Cheers Marty
  24. Hey guys, Caught this guy off Longy yesterday off the kayak. My guess Warehou or Snotty Trevally. Measured 38cm. Am sure it's a member of the trevally family (typical serrated scutes at tail wrist) and forked tail. Unlike a silver he had teeth on him and black eyes. Quite slimy too. When bringing him up he was grey in colour with pronounced black stripes (like a sea-caught Luderick) but later turned almost completely black. Oven baked it was soft moist flesh and really tasty. Cheers Marty
  25. Hi Seagoon, So you don't have the new tuner plugged into any external antenna, just using the internal receiver? Is yours a card or USB and are you running it off a laptop or desktop PC? I've been thinking about getting one for a while now. Cheers Marty
