  1. Thanks for that Pel. My bearings are perfect at the moment, no wobble, noises and perfect smooth running... i just want to put a fresh set in as i have no idea how old the existing set are, it will also allow me to re grease the hubs and give it all a good clean... i think i have my next windy day project sorted.
  2. Cheers Ross, I've pulled the hubs apart when i did the brakes not so long ago, i didn't know if i should be playing with the bearings though... Trailer already had bearing buddies too...I'll give it a go i think...
  3. Hi Guys, I want to replace the wheel bearings on my trailer, is this something usually done at home by yourself? or can i pay a mechanic to do it for me? I do not want to replace them myself and have a failure on the highway.. is it difficult to get done right? Cheers, Sammy
  4. Chris, you will be welcome back on board as soon as you have taken the form of an attractive young female... and still know how to swing a net... and re bait hooks.... and not get sick.... The Flatties will hit the plate tonight, nom nom!
  5. Hi Guys, Just a brief report of my Saturday adventure. I was lost for a crew with guys away, guys playing sport and other fall backs hungover... i was desperate for a fish and i was prepared to go it alone in order to get my fix, i managed to con the girlfriend into coming along for the ride for her first look at offshore fishing. I launched the boat solo, and discovered that the keel rollers have siezed up making life difficult, a few burly blokes came to my assistance and gave a shove whilst i applied some reverse throttle and i was afloat. I ran around to collect the lady from como marina, then pointed then nose for the heads at 40kn in glass flat conditions. The further towards the heads i got the smoother it became, where i was blasting out at 30kn into the blue! I pulled up in 36m and pulled out my new Shimano Trinidad 14 and Black magic rod which i was keen to blood, at this point my lovely girlfriend pulled out the net and exclaimed that she was ready once i'd hooked dinner... great... The drift was quite slow, but a combo if servo pilchards and squid saw plently of tiddlers were being sent back.. The first keeper was a nice jacket, then a pidgeon pair of 40cm keeper flatties.. I was hoping for some better sized models and i wasn't disapointed, i got a sold hit on the trinidad and felt some weight.. a brief fight later and i swung a 50 something cm sandy on board.. Net girl, resting in the cabin with a mild case of sea sickness was of no help and could only offer "can we go back yet"...knowing only too well the wreched feeling of mal de mere, i relented and said we'd leave once i'd wound in the other rod.. tap tap... whack! i was on again, even more weight and another great flattie hit the deck... I turned around as i was cleaning up the deck for the trip back to "that hot chip place we passed on the way out" i saw the tell tale shimmer of a howling wind change, then i got hit with 25kn+ of wind straight from the south!.. so i trimmed the nose up and made haste for the bay where we spent the rest of the afternoon anchored up in frenchmans bach out of the wind, the water was about 22 degrees and i traded the rod and reel for a swim. Top day to be out. Cheers Sam
  6. Go the 300m spool mate, every now and then you will loose bits of braid, if you go for a spool of 120m and you get chopped off with 50m out then you need to throw out the remainder and start again... with 300m, once you have lost a bit and the spool is not full, just add some more backing which is cheap.
  7. have you had it on the weigh bridge yet?
  8. Pacific Blue Marlin. i have never seen 80lb line leave a reel at such a terrifying rate.
  9. They will catch fish, what fish do you want to catch with them?
  10. They are there, i have seen them just about every time. Get a mesh bag and mash up some pillies in it, then drag it through the receding water after a wave rolls in. you will see the "V" in the water caused by them poking their heads out. A dropping tide is the easiest to work with, also look for lower lying areas or areas where waves are washing into each other on the way in.
  11. Well done mate, top marks for effort in less than pleasant conditions.
  12. - Spooling up a new reel with 600m of braid, only to discover that it needs more backing! - Tying knots in light line on freezing cold windy mornings. - Wind knots in braid when there are bust ups infront of you - The phobia of being caught without something i might want, be it a light rod, heavy rod, hooks from size 12 to 12/0's, bags and bags of plastics, almost 100 game lures.
  13. Looks like he decided to bleed it... i've heard the little ones are called 'soapies' for that reason... i'll be interested to hear how it goes on the plate.
  14. I use the Mustad jigs that come in double packs with two, three hook sabikis. they are about 2.50 a pack and the three hook packs are great, less tangles and there is another at the ready all the time. Inshore i like the hyabusa brand, they work brilliantly without bait in any kind of burley trail
  15. Fantastic king! especially in botany bay, well done!
  16. +1 vote for Huett Marine.
  17. Hi Mate, this weekend was certainly tough fishing, combine a full moon, with rainwater runoff and rough weather and you are up against it in anyones books! better luck next time Sammy.
  18. Where are you fishing mate? inshore, offshore? are you using bait or plastics?
