  2. It was a Pakula Cockroach in Evil. Dojo 25 light hooks.
  3. Well, after three years, thousands upon thousands of dollars on boats and tackle... 5 LOST marlin.. i finally got the job done on the weekend ! Crazedfisherdude and i hit Jervis Bay for a boys weekend with the intention to fish non stop. Given the recent hot action it was almost a sure thing, unlike the recent Interclub which saw the usually productive grounds of Port Stephens shut down completely. The weather was predicted to blow up in the afternoon so we hit the ramp at 8.30 with the intention of fishing until the Ne'r blew up then come home. Bait was scarce so we stuck to pulling lures in the rough conditions. After working north we went wide, then back to the kink where at 2.30 we decided the wind was strong enough and we would make our way back in. We announced out intentions to another mate fishing over the radio, as soon as i put the handset down the rigger popped and the ratchet on the 50 screamed into life with 15kg line pouring off it. Chris did an awesome job of clearing the lines and setting chase after the fish... After about 35 minutes and a number of close calls we had the fish boatside and the tag in! my first marlin capture! the fish was a 230cm short length which works out to be approximately 85kg. After a high five and some carrying on we set sail for home and a celebratory beer after an awesome day! Chris was awesome as the skipper, deckie, wire and tag man so i owe my sucess to his skill and effort! cheers mate its great to have the monkey off my back.. even better to have done it on my own boat !
  4. I have a roll full of them, i'll let you know how they go after this weekend.
  5. Hi Arman, Make sure you are using the WGS84 datum. its in the GPS setup menu. Call me if you need help, i have the identical unit. Cheers Sam
  6. Hi Mate, If you are looking for 'cheaper' reels then look at something from Okuma, they are well built, cheap and come with a lifetime warranty. i have used a number of models and have been very satisfied. Cheers Sam
  7. Hi Guys, I have a boat, tackle and time off but no crew at the moment. i was looking to have a fish tomorrow, either for kings in the harbour, or flatties and possibly some kings in or outside botany bay. BYO lunch and drinks, chip in for fuel and bait. Interested? send me a PM
  8. Marlin: Pakula Mini sprocket in Express. Evil Cockroach. Tuna: Green Mackeral Rapala XRAP20, Purple Zuker. Dollies: Pakula Hornet in Hot Wasp
  9. There are no splits in my hubs.... is this because i am using Ford hubs? I bashed the christ out of my hubs/cones and there was no movement whatsoever.
  10. Pro's: Very Durable, High knot strength, Relatively cheap, High breaking strain. long lasting. limp. Con's: Thicker than the newer braids for its breaking strain. Some colour fade.
  11. Looks like i'll be pulling the trailer apart again...
  12. Well.... i ended up taking on this task on the weekend just gone, I picked up a blister pack of bearings from my local chain store as it was the only option on a saturday afternoon when i had already pulled two hubs apart. Disassembly was simple enough save for a few frozen bolts that mount the brake calipers. Then came the biggest headache in the world. Removal of the cones, which ended up being impossible... the drift didn't budge it... a screwdriver did even less... i guess they have been in there since 2002 and simply refuse to come out...they were very very smooth, no lip or scratches.. even the old bearings were perfect... but they were out and on the ground so they were going in the bin, the previous owner probably used the boat a dozen times in its life and lived 1km from the ramp, he also claims to have never submerged the trailer either, so that explains the condition of the bearings. So, i packed the bearings with grease, and re assembled using the old cones and filled the hubs with grease... i suggest that i will need to get hold of some SKF or NSK quality bearings and get a mechanic to press out the old cones because there is no way in hell i am getting them out.
  13. The enthusiasm is great to see! but we already have a thread on this topic. Cheers Sam
  14. I'll hopefully be up there on one of the SGFC boats.
  15. I was looking at one around this time last year, they look like a fairly standard tinny... they are cheaper, but they lack features and the finish is a little rough on the inside. Seem solid, there are alot of smaller brands of plate tinnys in qld that are very similar.
  16. The general rule is 3/4 the length of your boat... but practically i would suggest 16 footers will be fine.
  17. No worries.... Pro's: No need to cut holes, small footprint. cheap. Cons: Must be setup correctly to achieve correct angles, separate base and mount means you can lose the elbow if not glued to the pole. Potential to drop the pole in the drink because you have to separate the base and elbow to lay the riggers out at sea.
  18. funny show! not quite as good as the first fat pizza series though.
  19. Hi Mate, The black pete riggers are just Pacific composite poles with black pete rigging and weights, i also think they run Reelax bases. Reelax also use Pacific Composites poles made to their specs.. Go for it if the price is right, just make sure you use some solid backing plates when you mount them.
  20. or $50 a side for those of us with dual axle trailers.
