  1. Damn I'm envious, Spent 3 years living in Antigua and Costa Rica was always my long weekend getaway ! Surfing and Fishing. Nice work, looks like a great team you and your misses! Costa Rica = one of the best places on earth
  2. I met fellow fishraider Bennoz today and took him down to old mans.... got there at 6am and left at 12pm...NOTHING, NOTHING, not a thing....EMPTY!! NO FISH!! Where are they all but oh well... Seems when there are millions of stripeee's around there is little else! But still better than sitting at home , was a really nice morning! now time for
  3. I got a good king off the rocks a little ago at Old Mans... Thinking of heading out there again this weekend, got some new lures, 80lb braid and am going after a hoodlum off the rocks Predator - you keen or is the boat back in action?
  4. I always love your replies Jimbo 77 - your the ying to my yang
  5. HAHAHHAHAHHHAHAHHA, Not a heartfelt story at all!! All fishraiders are honest, loyal and trustworthy! If someone misses a day out and has paid, but due to sickness cant make it....refund is immediate! How many more fishraiders will jump at the chance?? about a 1000 If you can't make a charter or any other trip...don't worry! there is no need for fellow raiders to not refund as they can be replaced in about 2 seconds....I've been looking to secure a trip here for 2 months now and damn! Any trip gets confirmed here damn quick! Why then hell am I supporting a site I have no idea about?? Guess because i fish, surf and love the ocean and Fishraider people seem to be good people all round! A damn good site as I've observed from only a few post's....and hey I don't mind being a Pilly at all..they stink but damn good bait
  6. Just remember, swell in non windy condition is ok. The swell will never tip a boat but will make it uncomfortable...the wind can pick a boat up if its not heavy or deep enough hull combined with large swell.... All boats are not made for blue water, check the weather paying particular attention to wind first then swell size....large swell and no wind = stay away from shallow reefs and rocks! Large swell with moderate wind means if you are in a smallish boat (shallow hull, tinny or light weight) stay in the harbour. I know boats and the ocean, grew up and still live in the ocean. I just cant afford a boat right now saving for a flybridge ...riviera if possible so I'm land based...but I must admit..there are days when I am glad i was land based...it teaches you the sublets about what fish want and patience to examine and try different things in the same location Damn, I'm talkative tonight
  7. I'm trying to land the biggest land based Kingy record....but I feel it will take some time I use 50lb braid with a 60lb leader... have landed Kingies land based now to 65cm ( Rats ) and only one to date but that is only because I switched to braid recently. Before I was on 30lb mono and got smoked everytime I hooked up, never able to land any!! 50lb braid was easy to land a kingy from land based...wear gloves though!!!! Now I'm thinking to upgrade to 80lb braid and 200lb leader and go after a 200cm + Kingy... land based
  8. Good to see you got your mum and Mrs out there But damn, sorry! I have to say this... stuff the Kingies, your Mrs is the real catch ..... A Mrs that beautiful and fishes with you?? You have found heaven on earth
  9. Totally agree all, There will be decent enough swell this weekend to not warrant rock fishing ocean based and ocean side. I fish Old Mans a fair amount (North Head , Sydney Heads) and also have surfed for the last 20 years. As a surfer and consistently jump off ocean rocks to surf I can see how dangerous rock fishing can be when swell is around 2m's + Cyclone ground swell is very unpredictable and produces rouge waves very often ( a set of waves can be the same consistent size for an hour) then every hour a Wipeout set of waves can come in often double the size!!! Sorry for the rant, I just hope my experience helps in this regard. I will surf 15 foot waves, but I will not rock fish in 6 foot waves unless I really want to get swept in, go for an ocean swim... ( I can ocean swim in large conditions ) but if anyone is not comfortable in what I have said, the safest place to be is in the rivers or at home sucking down a cold one Have a happy safe weekend By the way, HUEY told me the kings have gone inland to tail slap the PM about the flood levy after they heard from...good sources, that our PM was about to support a Rat Levy on Sydney and Botany rats??
  10. Moi? Having a joke? Never !! But seriously, I went down to get some yakkas the other day and they were infested. They actually look pretty cool crawling around in the sink, the little alien critters. Well, down to Old mans tomorrow to get some more land based Kingies... finally figured out the perfect way to get them land based I hope everyone enjoys a great weekend
  11. When you get some yakkas home, leave them in the sink for about 10 mins and wash with fresh water. The little docs (parasites) come right out. When you have around 5 or 10 of the little critters, fry them with butter and eat them hot. They taste like roasted nuts, high in protein.
  12. I use a double uni and never have any issues. 50lb braid to 60lb mono leader... with the uni I always do 10 turns for the braid and 5 turns for the mono. Holds well..
  13. You serious Jim77? You had your life threatened over another fishing matter? Over fishing?!? There must be some real low life's around your area, you should come over to gods country, the north shore
  14. Awesome Jewie humesy!! How good does it feel to be free of the city and then get a monster like that??? Good to see you have a water, stuff the beer, who needs it after that?? best drug in the world catching a stunner like that is!!! Keep on enjoying the solitude and excitement, doesn't get any better ...ever My fantasy is not far off either
  15. Forgive me all but why do all the boat and boating posts talk about hanging in the harbour? I'm perplexed a little, I fish old Mans a fair amount and other spots and see boats 20 metres away catching big donuts. For example last Sunday, was at old mans - raining etc dive boats and heaps of boats and kayaks fishing just off the rocks and they were catching zilch? I pulled up in 2 hours, 3 trevally, a king around the 80 mark, a god damn spanish mackeral that chewed a chunk out of my thumb ( yes me being stupid ) and this weird thing that looked like a whiting on major steroids with teeth like the devil monster river fish ( devil fish ) ? All in all a great afternoon and the sun came out just before sunset Alone at old mans on Sunday afternoon ... doesn't get any better? Does boat fishing really increase the chance of fish if in the harbour? Seeing fish like rock shelves and structure? Curious to see some opinions Cheers and be well all
  16. First time poster, hello all. I don't boat fish only land based, but never had a prob with yakkas. Find any structure, point, island, wharf but stay in the same spot for at least an hour and burly a little every 20 minutes, but only a little. The yakkas will come. I find the best way to catch yakkas when they arrive are with small bits of bread squashed and rolled so its like a dough or smill bits if pillies. No sinker just a small hook and jerk small jerks until they practically jump on the hook but get them in quick because they have a habit of jumping off the hooks
