  1. Yeah, I'd rather have one find the reef than me drag a yakka around all day for zip. Kind of comes with the territory with kingfishing.
  2. It sure was a good day out. You just better be careful about calling the skipper a "mug angler" or might be stuck at home making up frozen berley bombs next time I go out. I am sure that the first one that reefed me was the mother of your 84cm model anyway. Feel free to argue that point but I'm sure I'll win the argument purely out of the fact that I am the holder of the boat keys
  3. The good old last cast! I have spent many an hour on the 'last cast' only to rebait and try again Well done on the flatties
  4. Maybe your on to something there or maybe I am just a bad squidder (likely ) as I have converted to a light spin outfit loaded with 6lb braid and lost a lot more than on the mono. I am running a couple of metres of mono leader on the braid. I'd be interested in what some of the other squidders thoughts are as I don't really consider myself a "gun" squidder. Trent
  5. Bad luck on the dollies, at least you caught something. Amazing colour in him. Trent

    Furuno

Hi, I bought the 600W Airmax Triducer with the Furuno 620 (due to budget restrictions) and it has been great, although I don't go offshore. If you really want to get the best use from your sounder you can get the High Definition transducers, they are going to cost you alot but the results should be outstanding. I think most of these come thru-hull though. Trent
  7. Well done boys. Sounds like you earned your fish today!
  8. Awesome work Ali, sounds like a great night's fishing. You mentioned what time did you manage to catch them?Trent
  9. They were planning on upgrading the fish ladder there so if they do that it will help the bass population. I don't know what they are like on the freshwater side but you can get the odd EP on the saltwater side. Trent
  10. Thanks for all the great advice guys. I can't wait to get out there and give it a go. Trent
  11. Just wondering if anyone can help me with the location of the Ballast Heap in the Port Hacking? Is it hard to find and has anyone had luck fishing there? Thanks, Trent
  12. Has anyone got the Furuno FCV-620? It turns out to be alot cheaper if you get that model but I was wondering what the loss of quality would be like.
  13. Thanks Mark, will check them out
  14. Can anyone tell me a dealer of this product in the Sydney region or do I have to order it over the net?
  15. Congrats, all the hard work payed off. They sure beat catching palm sized Tailor.
  16. I used to always catch them at the Roseville Boat Ramp pontoon. Just berley up and away you go. Trent
  17. Bad luck, but that's fishing. At least you had a good story to tell. Your luck will come good one day and then it will make all the effort worth while.

    Rose Bay

I am heading out for a trip on Easter Sunday morning in Sydney Harbour with my brother in law and I really don't know the spots. I normally fish the Hacking and Botany. Can anyone tell me of some good squid grounds around Rose Bay or near there that I can try. Also, does anyone know what the Rose Bay boat ramp is like? Trent
  19. Lilli Pilli sand flats for whiting on nippers and worms is good. You can also chase some pelagics around the entrance to Bate Bay. Plenty of squid around if you look for them which are either good eating or bait.
  20. I have had good luck with whitebait and frogmouth pillies (I prefer frogmouth if available) but never on the pelagics, more with Bream and Flathead. If you want to catch the pelagics your probably better to match the hatch with lures. You know that if the pelagics are working a school of whitebait there will be other fish picking up the scraps beneath them. As for rigging whitebait and frogmouth I make up a set of gangs with the Mustad Saltwater hooks in size 4. You might want slightly larger hooks for bigger whitebait. Gang three or four of them together. Make up a mix of three and four hooks so you can use them on varying sized whitebait. When ganging them do it the same as a pilchard with the hook closest to the line going through the eye of whitebait.
  21. Thanks for all the help guys
  22. Thanks dailow, that's a new one for me so I'll give it a go. I noticed the triple palomar knot was "knot" in the knot's link on the website. If anyone's interested I found it here: Triple Palomar Knot
  23. Thanks for the heads up Pete but I am working late that day and can't make the workshop otherwise I would have attended for sure. I will keep an eye out for the workshops in the future, I'd love to catch up with some of the raiders, I'll have to keep an eye out for the socials too. Collamon, I have used the uni knot plenty of times with mono so I will give that a go. Thanks for all your help guys. Anyone else have any further suggestions. I always like learning new knots. Trent
  24. I have been using mono lines for a long time but do run braid on my baitcaster outfit. I generally connect the braid to a mono leader via an Allbright knot. Is this the best way to go? Also what is the best knot for tying braid to a swivel?
  25. I haven't fished there for years but when I did I caught bream. My brother caught a big wobbegong there on a jewie head that we'd caught earlier that week and then a big port jackson on the same bait. I have seen some big blue groper and blackfish swimming past but never targetted them. Never heard or seen any kingies there but I would think there's enough depth and structure there to bring them in. You might want to balloon a live bait out into the deeper water. Call into FOW and ask the guys, they should be able to tell you if you can get kingies there. South Curl Curl might be a better place to target kingies.
