  1. I use size 16 circles, most likely your sinker that got hangup use a lighter line break away between your main line and sinker. I alway carry a extra 1000m spool of braid with me just in case never needed it but i'm sure one day i will. my rig general go brick- 200lb leader (that heavy so it's easy to handle at the boat)- swivel- 30lb loop (this is my breakaway)- swivel clip - 20-30m 200lb leader 100lb braid. I generally only run two droppers clipped to the main line with shark clips.
  2. i've got about a dozen nights out under my belt and ugg boots are the way to go, and a portable camp stove for soup in the evening and coffee in the morning....O yeh and wild turkey !!
  3. classic buy the best you can afford just make sure you can hold over 750m of the braid you choose remember cheaper braid is thicker than name brand.
  4. small metals, cast, let it sink for a moment then fast retrieve. If they are feeding on micro baits the only way to get them is on fly, put the smallest silver fly you have (if you fly) in the school don't even retrieve just wait to strike. best of luck
  5. i agree it looks like a killer whale butttttt it would have to be very very lost
  6. http://finance.ninemsn.com.au/executivesuite/downtime/8398810/single-tuna-fetches-record-736k-at-japan-auction I know you can't sell your catch but
  7. Thanks guys, I looked at on google earth and it didn't look good so no surprises there, googled the crowdy head one and it looks pretty sweet. Chances are I will not head off shore anyway...just nice to know before i head up. Doods if you see a bloke in a quintex 520 spirit (pure spirit) or a blue hilux sr5 with a black TJM bullbar and lightforce spotties say hi. thanks again
  8. You will not be able to carry on your rod, have never tried lures but i'd imagine not. Go to a local tackle store buy a few from them and get the low down on what is working. They still love their bombers up there (and for good reason) so if you have some take them.
  9. 2011 model they are running them out to make way for the new shape so got a pretty good deal, got the SR5 diesel so will save heaps compared to my old petrol 4wd that got pretty thirsty on long runs.
  10. Been at the wife for years finally got it over the line Really looking forward to tow the boat to port stephens next week should be a dream.
  11. Thanks for the info, just traded up to a new hilux so less keen to get it "wet"
  12. i use roseville because i'm coming from the northshore, re the ramp at long only good for small boat with 4wd and a team of two that know what they are doing on a flat day. I had a look at it one day when i was going past after beening warned about it... no way
  13. Just reading this made me think of a personal example and how this can strike the young as well...adding as many a 20 extra years to financial hardship to ones life... Few month ago i was at a large chain tackle store with my five year old daughter (to make it all the funnier she was dressed as a fairy), to get some 2 stroke oil naturally i checked out the lure section. while i was looking at jigs my daughter climbs up on a shelf and grabs the biggest marlin skirt with a pusher head. And declares this is the one she wants some bloke (also looking at lures)there seems to think it's pretty funny... I explain to my daughter that we already have a few like that, to which she said no we don't this ones got more sparkles (the bloke looks pretty impressed) when i go to put it back she has a fully blown fit not wanting to give in i try and find some middle ground and ask her if that is what she would like for her birthday (in a couple of weeks time) she says yes and is happy as, I'm stoked to have another lure for the collection... sadly my wife well let just say not so happy when my daughter runs into the house say look what i got for my birthday. (this is not the first time either)
  14. if your working out of a small boat you might try back from the bridge at roseville
  15. Hey Phil See this link to one of my posts about fishing browns in a small boat (there is alot of general info in the thread but there is one bit about the steps I take might be interesting to you) not saying do (or don't) but just a few ideas. Maybe do a couple of runs to the fads or 12mile to feel it out. If you'd like more info let me know happy to chat. http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=57640&st=0&p=412818&fromsearch=1entry412818
  16. wow good to hear it all worked out okay for you, sounds like you were prepare should the worst have happened
  17. About 15 years ago mangrove jack about 40cm, Port douglas ... hey these things do work ! sadly it was another year before i got another one (but got a few barra along the way)and the start of an expensive shopping habit
  18. In the first bay of smith creek also work right down the end off the last buoy
  19. Spending a week up in P-S at the end of the month, have rented a house at dutchmans beach. HAve never been before so would love some help ! Will have a couple of non fishers with me but would like to do a range of stuff I'm set up for everything from blue water to bream. At least once i'd like to target table fish so a good snapper / kingie spot (reef) would be great and even a flathead drift to fall back on if things don't work out. If conditions are good i'd like to go wide (know it to early to expect marlin or dollies as a regular target)but if anyone has a general area that i'd stand a better chance i'd love to know. Plus a live bait mark would be tops. For the smaller stuff inside i'll work that out once i get there, but happy for suggestion. I'm thinking of leaving the boat in the water some night at dutchman beach if the conditions are calm ! stupid idea ? I would not leave anything in it and would plan on leaving it a bit out. Tips on ramps would be good as well, I know there are a few some being beach, I'm just under 6m and have never done a beach launch so they are not the best option even more so since the people with me have no boating experience. but i'm in a 4wd and have beach driving experience thanks in advance.
  20. I saw a tracking map of Bull sharks in sydney harbour on Australia day (might have been on F R) anyway they were hugely active on the day but then consider the amount on people swimming in the harbour on the day for those of you can remember it was hot as ( I remember because I was wide of sydney chasing marlin... 4 hooked, 3 thrown and one bust off)if there was a threat there would have been attacks all over the place... not to say it can't happen (ie navy diver) but you have to be pretty unlucky.... just go easy on the berley!!
  21. You just never no, my view is that you use the lure (type and size) for the fish you are targeting but by catch will alway come into play. Even more so if you are putting good action into a casted lure. Check out this one I was getting Barra from 50cm upto 80cm in this corner of the gorge but was picking up guys like this.
  22. nice work.. these reports are killing me been over a week since i've been out and will be at least another till i get out..... thanks for doing the right and leaving a few for me
  23. I suggested this to my mate but he seemed to have a problem with the ideas of having a dip 40ks offshore .. but as i said to him with the volume of berley i'd thrown in already if there were any around we would have seen them already ...
