  1. Mate i'm lucky it's generally not a huge problem for me, having said that i always pop a pill when i run outside. But if you have a problem (as someone else said) pop them before you hit the water so they have time to get in your system because if you wait till your feeling a bit "funny" it's to late, best of luck. Had a reminder a few months ago with a mate how got a pretty bad case of sick sickness at browns of all places, don't think I've ever seen some one so happy to to see a wharf.... on the upside he was so sick he didn't want to take any fish with him !!! so more for me
  2. If your after snapper and kings head out to long reef more or less anywhere from a few hundred metre off the headland (watch out for shallow reefs in close and waves)up to a few K out watch your sounder and look for changes in depth and bait fish. Get lives on the way out I was getting live bait from Balmoral but it has not been so good of late so have been getting it at north head (as it's on the way) (don't have a mark.. just do it by sight) think any area just inside the head is good berley hard and they (yakka) will find you first one i get i normal throw straight back in as a live bait, how i present it depends on the day. If your staying inside the heads go to the wedding cake marker off watsons bay for bait it's worth wetting a livie there as well. Might be a good idea to tell people what kind of boat you have so they give you suitable suggestions... no-one wants to send you to 12mile in a 12ft tinnie with a 20 on the back ! best of luck
  3. yeh there was a bit of extra cleaning to do !! I'm a big fan of having pre made rigs ready to go, that one was on both wire and a size 16 circle without it your chances are pretty slim.. having said that got a small whaler a couple of months back on a bottom line with 60lb mono leader but as soon as i realised what i had I locked up the drag and put the pain on it straight to the boat.
  4. I know they are protected but how does it work with catch and release ? As bycatch (then released I would not expect any problem) but say if you targeted it for catch and release are you breaking the law ?
  5. Bad luck on losing it at the boat. a mate and i picked one up while drifting for flathead last friday off syd, we knew it was down there after bringing up a flathead missing a bit my mate lead it to the boat with his next catch. I kept it at the back of the boat with some lite berley while he got a shark line sorted. On hook up it twisted up in the line so we rushed it to the boat, i got in a solid gaff shot and with a 2nd gaff we got it into the boat end up tail tying it and draging it for a while to kill it.. so mako is on the menu for a while. here's a photo of me with it but credit goes to my mate on a great catch at close quarters. better luck next time... noah
  6. Thanks everyone for the updates.
  7. Mate i have the basic GME think it's the 600, with a foot long antenna, on my cuddy cabin so it's about 2m from the water surface... I believed that I would need to get a bigger antenna (like everyone is saying)but when i realise i could hear the game boats (east of browns) talking from my home on the upper northshore I figured i'd save my money. I have no dramas (sometime not the best but i can always communicate) checking in the marine rescue sydney from browns. Bottom line if i needed to buy a new antenna I'd get a longer one but the way the short one is set it works just get it up high.
  8. thinking of heading wide tomorrow, have not seen any reports in ages ! much happening.....
  9. I use 100lb braid, with 200-250lb mono leader (long up to 20-30m) over 800ms is good some of my wider marks off browns have me dropping 750+m I tend not to go deeper than 800ms because of the drop and raise time, but it's nice to see line on the spool when you get to the bottom of your drop. JUst remember unless your willing to spend a lot of money on braid you'll most likely end up using online shop braid which is thicker than "name" brands. cheers
  10. i have one of their rod and reels, after a few uses the reel seat on the rod (50-80lb troll rod) came loose, which i was not to happy about having not picked up anything huge on it and thank god it happened when i was on something small. anyway called them up and with no dramas they took it back and sorted it out. once again no blame just good service had it back in about a week from sending it. nice work tuff tackle.
  11. what kind of boat is it ? if it is light with a large canopy it might be a case of it catching the wind more than the current. you could try a sea anchor off the back.
  12. nice one for you in summer is to wade down the creek at apple tree bay go for flatties and bream
  13. nice work, looks super flat out there, did you make it to browns ? if so have any luck
  14. that's right it's a great ramp and wharf with heaps of parking, the key to fishing this area is to move around, no point in digging in at one point and waiting. there is almost not current in the back of the system berley up (fine mix) if you don't see or catch anything move on. Morning and dusk can be good for surface action watch for the birds they will show you the fish (use the wind to drift into them, or they will go deep before you get a cast off) the sand flats at the end of many of the bay at the change of tide can work well for flatties and bream. I you plan on spending a lot of time fishing the area it's worth spend a day just cruising the area and marking holes and drop offs ...something I keep on saying i'm going to do but at yet have not really done it.
  15. from my experience (and i will say i'm very pro inspectors and believe in bag and size limits)they are more interested in targeting people in boats a year or so ago i was getting bait at west head and had them come along side and do a check.. not a problem showed them my licence, they asked to check my esky no problem only had drink and bait in there told them i have a under floor kill tank which only had ice then they asked to check it and my live bait tank no dramas, had about 10 yakka and was after a few move then would be heading out side. They were all good with this and seemed like like top guys i suggested they might like to head over a palm beach ferry wharf (i'd been ther squidding about a hr earlier) and i had witnessed people catching what looked like under sized bream. I must add i was really nice about it.. to the point of "if you guys are after a easy target" (ie trying to help them out) with that the mood changed and they started up about how they could fine me here and now for having to many rods rigged.... which i did but there was no way i would be using them all at the same time... my rigged rods ranged from a 24kg (penn 50)rigged for shark all the way down to a rod rigged for squid. They didn't fine me but having said that they head off in the opposite direction to the wharf 3minutes away where there was illegal fishing going on. Bottom line I know no-one likes "to be told how to do their job" (and i don't think that how i came across)but in their job i'd class that as a tip-off and act on it.
  16. Don't know when i use mine for float baiting in berly trails for snapper i just leave the bail open, same for if i have free swimming yakka but i normally clip their tails so it does not get to out of control.
  17. I've got a spinfisher it's the size down from the 760 if i remember correctly, it's a bullet proof unit but it is heavy, okay if you plan on fishing from the rod holder but it will make a long day of it if you are are doing a lot of casting and holding. drag is good for the money you pay.
  18. Re fish sounding at juno, I fished it early morning a couple of weeks back, had a couple of livies out (one on the bottom and one free swimming) got no hits on them but was also working plastics and vibes and was picking up heaps of small bream (around 20cm) and trevally... nothing worth keeping. Ended up heading outside and ran a few good flatties drift. I'm still to unlock the mystery of the hawkesburry Jew fish have landed a few soapies in my time but none of the big ones.
  19. I know god those trucks hold their money ! same old story never enough $$$$ the wife and i came back from a couple of years O/S and needed to buy two cars (and not wanting to have to get a loan--- which I most likely would not have got since i didn't have a job and the wife was about to have a child)we figured we had about 60k spare so the kia sorento and a swift fitted the bill, with change to spare. Having said that the kia's been a great vehicle, tows well (but drinks hard)goes okay offroad and is very comfortable with heaps of features and i believe the new model is even better.
  20. Nice work hope it gets you on to some good fish.
  21. Mate head over to westhead and pickup yellowtails the try them at bit further out you may get the odd kingie or salmon (have a few out at different depths, salmon will take them at the surface under a float). look for squid inside the western end of barrenjoey but after this rain they might be hard to fine, look ofr where the seagrass breaks to sand). if the wind is run up or down pittwater try some drift along the drop off along palm beach between the headlands for flathead fresh (fillets) or live yaka should get you hooked up. Live squid i normally use a snell rig (just put the hooks through the skin..don't go deep or they die very quickly, top of the hood and at the head) and for yaka if they are small i just tail or back from the head pin them, if they are big i use a snell rig. best of luck
  22. mate i would not go to the trouble of coiling the rope, if you don't have a anchor well in your boat get a big bucket and just pour it in. drill a hole in the bottom of the bucket so you can give it a quick wash down.
