  1. thinking i might give the hairtail a shot this friday if the weather clears up. thinking i'll head out during the day it's a late high tide which will not play well with my first plan targeting jewies around the flint and steel area before heading back into the creek for the night but i'm planning on giving it a shot. If anyone else is planning on heading out let me know and maybe we can keep in contact I'll be in my white quinnie with yellow and blue marking (pure spirit) if anyone else is out i'll monitor channel 17 (think that is the channel everyone settled on). cheers noah
  2. this weekends a no go for me planning on head out on sunday at gentlemans hours but at the races on saturday so plan on spending the night in a nice warm bed best of luck let us know how you go
  3. Maybe when it warms up we could do one and camp at the basin... having said that i'm keen for a pittwater one anytime. I'd head out of apple tree.
  4. I had a few tries last year with no luck (Think I may have hooked one but it was not rigged on wire (had it out for jews) whatever it was made short work of my mono)but got a few nice jews. There was talk of getting a few boats in the water one night and to keep intouch over the two-way if anyone finds them last year not sure if it happened. Seem to be the theory that once you fine them you have a good time of it but with the lack of current in the system there if your in the wrong spot it's a slow old night and bloody cold. If their are a few keen people I'm keen to head out I normally stay mobile (half an hour too an hour each spot)till boredom sets in then anchor up for the night.
  5. glad it's not just me i bought some as well thinking it would be handy to have around, tried a few joins etc and it was Sh#%.
  6. Hi Bennoz You may have seen me i was in the boat about half way along the pool, I also had no luck on squid but loaded up on Gar and Yakka, left there about 7ish to go chase Jews but all my lives got smashed by tailor. Picked up one nice flatty off the pool while i was getting bait. And a couple more while i was after jews which i put back since i already had a flatty feed. But even with the lights i run i got no squid action.
  7. Thanks Jewgaffer, i'll have a look around there, I normally fish on the ocean side of the bridge and let the tide run my baits over the holes there but it's been a bit hit and miss...so it will be good to give a new spot a shot, totally agree with your timings would plan on collecting live bait on dusk then being in place well before the high tide then fish the run out as well. P.S Your father sounds like a smart man !!
  8. Thinking of doing a night mission on wednesday night from either roseville or bobbin head ramp. Would like some suggestions.equiped for anything from bream to shark, but was thinking jews at night and have a last shot at kings in the morning. Was thinking of fishing the harbour side of the spit bridge on the run in tide which i think will be around 9pm. I'm going to spend the night out and would rather not spend the night motoring around or putting up with huge amounts of wake as people speed by. I normally leave out livies once i bed down. look foward to hearing your ideas. n
  9. read your report and thought that was you sounds like it was worth heading out for you. re boat i'm pretty happy with it was a rough ride back in yesterday knees are pretty sore for it today having said that ran at 40-50km phr till i hit the heads swear i spent as much time in the air as on the water
  10. will send you the mark tomorrow, see my report for more info hope you have more luck than me
  11. try fishing the break wall lake end on the run in tide. can be a really mixed bag, rig light and float bait with the tide. best of luck.
  12. head out early wednesday went to balmoral and quickly filled up on livies with a mix of gars and yakka (bit small) and a couple of squid. had a couple of bonties hit my livies but no luck on the kingies so head to longie first drop small king on a yakka. over the next hour got another small kingie and a few small snapper but nothing for the box. tried a few more marks with no luck. time for plan b with a tank of livies headed of the wave rider I had two marks first mark not to be found head to the next mark about 2kms away. next mark no luck did a wide loop found it about 300m west. but more importantly mahi everywhere hands shaking i set for my first drift 1 floating live yakka and one set at about 4 m, drifted straight over them not hits...no luck over the next 2 hours i tried everything, trolling, spinning poppers / deep divers, plastic (fast slow stop start), bontio fillets, squid, pillies, jigging and even fly. with only one hit on a spun metal which didn't hook up. left to beat the storm home ... any suggestions
  13. hi all anyone care to share a good live bait spot, heading out of roseville ramp in the early hours, once the sun get up may head to longy if the wind and swell are kind. normally go the spit but have found the yakka small and slow on the take or the baths at balmoral which has been slow on the take for the yakka went well on the gars there a couple of weeks back but they are slow work and not as hardy on the hook although reward well. have tried the southern point of mid head but never had much luck. thanks in advance
  14. Just wanted to post to let anyone who is interested know that there are heaps of Garfish off the edge of the Baths at Balmoral, with a mix of Kingies, Bonito, taylor and Salmon working them. Lots of Rats but boated two legals 68 and 72 got smoked by a monster who hit a live gar that i was spinning, casted out to the edge of the mooring was giving it a moment to sink when it hit ripping out the same drag that had landed the 72cm and busted me off around a moored boat. Picked up a nice flathead as well from a livie floating in midwater ?? The Kingies seemed to turn off around 8ish so played with the bonito and salmon for a couple of hour working around the boats which was entertaining as always with the salmon giving me a good run for my money on light gear. Tried a few other spots in the later morning into the afternoon with out much luck. but took home a good feed.
  15. mate that's game fishing for you ! did you see any dolpins (dophins not mahi) we saw them a few times either before or after strikes. where were you ? cheers noah
  16. bit of a late report headed wide off longie on Aust day, Mike did a great job of finding a good mark... 10 minutes into our first run hooked up but was quickly dropped, about a hour later boated a stripped tuna. About another hour later STRIKE the long corner ripped out on a good sized stripped marlin as i controled it's run and mike started to clear the other 3 lines... took a 2nd hook up !!! so double hook up on Marlin the 2nd charged at the boat with a couple of jumps and came within 10metres of the boat shoulders out only to throw the lure by this stage i'd lost truck loads of line. With 3 lines still out the back to chase was not going to work as Mike adjusted my drag things started to look good till the braid backing locked into the reel as the mono stretched we only had a moment to clear it ... snap ! that's the way it goes ! After that we opted to run only 2 lines, hour or so later on again but got throw again, from that point things got slow chased a few birds with no luck. All said a great day even if we didn't get any to the boat.
  17. Hi Guys does anyone have any feedback or suggestions. I'm after a solid reel (prefer overhead) needs to had a good gear ratio as i'd ilke to jig with it from time to time but also able to troll light game and live bait kingies etc and would like to be able to cast it not far but at least 10-20m when the action is close up. budget upto $400 but would rather go around $300. Was looking at the Penn torque TRO 300 saw it for under $300 what do you think ? Will be looking at loading 40-50lb on it.
  18. No problem there any time of the day, as of last weekend we are getting a lot of big yakkas (15-20cm range) there squid have been very had to find there. If you really want squid palm beach wharf can produce but will be hard work during the day.
  19. My son almost 6yrs boated his first Bonito alongside Barrenjoey headlands, was sounding heaps of fish but had trouble getting them on the hook. So pulled out the big guns and landed a few this is his first Bonito gave him a run for his money.... he cann't wait to get out again maybe a kingy next time !
  20. Hi New to Fish Raider so please be kind, would like to submit this sailfish i caught off Phuket last month, was over there on a family holiday but managed to find a day to get out on the water... Anyway the day started a bit on the rough side the flyer advertised 4 people (9 where on the boat), state of the art fish finding equipment (well on the fly bridge they had the mounts and wiring but no screens to be seen)but on the way we cruised along we with a pretty wide spread of lures and teasers we picked up a few Mahi (very small around 50cm). Around midday we raised our first sail(s), at this point i realise the young (teenages)crew had no real idea we got a few hits but no hook ups. This happened a couple more times over the next few hours. The way it seemed to work was the clients were not to touch the rods the crew would hook up and give the rod to the clients. Anyway on the way home we raised at least 4 or 5 in one go as the teases got hit the crew madly jigged the lines. With there hands full the out rigger took off... being a helpfull kind of a guy i grabbed it and started to let it run, only to have one of the deckies grab the rod from me and give me a dead one ! As he whipped the rod / hit the drag i swear he pulled the lure straight out of it's mouth (not happy). With the fishless off cast rod in my hand i had a crack at a method i'd been shown early in the year in Broome (that got me a much smaller sail) which was bringing the lure (used skirted garfish in Broome... diff bait same theory) to the teasers then free spool and using my thumb on the spool to put in a bit off action. With in a matter of seconds the line was peeling out ..I had my sail ! At about the same time the crew where pointing the rod to one of the holders. Within a 20second i would say the sail had at least 50m if not more. Feeling pretty sure it had been hooked and not just holding the skirt I engaged the reel (it screamed)at it's longest run it had about 100ms on me. I really would have like to have taken it on stand up but after the first couple of minute and with no belt (lets just say i could not find a comfortable place for the rod butt) i moved to the chair. About 10 minutes in i passed the rod to one of the other blokes i met on the boat he kept it in check whilst i had a quick sip of water then jumped back on for about another 10minutes . By my best guess i'd say approx 190cm as for weight i have no idea. Please see the photos, me in the chair, with the fish and the boys with it holding up the sail. The sail was caught on the pink skirted pusher style lure fight time 20-30minutes but hard to tell (when your in the moment) Sadly the Thai's are not into catch and release so it did not go back in ! Regards Noah
