  1. "Great Bloke" Not from where I'm sitting looking at his ugly mug.................. He just told me the story and I mentioned I read this post the other day, all he wanted was your Did you ever wonder how he knew to lower you leg into the water to stop your boat swaying?? Next time you see him ask what happened on Botany Bay Na all jokes aside he is a great bloke and him or I would help felo boater's in need any time. PS. We work together, small world when you think about it......
  2. WOW I might trade my 4lb in for some 50lb.
  3. Yeah got the net back but lost that 1st S/P fish. Shit-loads of pain in the arse pinkies, 1 was almost legal at 27cm, 4 trevally at around 27cm and 1 small but legal dusky F/H at 37cm. The new formular berley seems to be working well. Also got a big "thing" 1/2 way up but snapped off, it felt like a PJ or big ray. Now for the bad news, lost 1 anchor 6m Gal chain and 20m rop over at Molls Pt. Not a bad day, feed the family fresh fish so no complaints. Did you guys bing something big in as I looked over and there seemed to be some excitment on the deck?
  4. Na got Suzuki, I'm the d-head that through his net overboard cause i was so excited when i cought my 1st fish on soft plastic then caught another 4 trevally & one flat head. I was wrapped.
  5. Did you see a yellow Signature nearby?
  6. Rod: Shimano 662 Spin ET Limited Edition Reel: Shimano Aernos 2000 Line: 4lb Fireline (Smoke) Jig: Basic running sinker, No 2 Long BaitHolder (Mastad) with a small (2g) ball sinker. Bait: whole peeled prawn And thanks to all the great comments, it was fun
  7. Afternoon all, My wife, 4yo son and I hit the water about 7:45am (bit late) and straight over to the oil wharf and anchored about 25m from the wharf (yes i know) Set the new berley mix I prep'd last week and floated a lightly weighted peeled prawn to drift under the wharf. We caught a few Sweeps and as I was in the middle of removing a hook from his eye my 4lb'er went off, I dropped the sweep (sorry) and grabbed the little Shimano 2000 and let it sing. There wasn't much I could do given it was 4lb, only to keep the pressure on the line. 10 min into the fight we spotted the yellow Maritime boat heading along the wharf telling people to head 100m off the wharf. They came in about 15m away and saw the fight, the guy said "after you land that one move back" yes was my answer and to their credit they backed off and gave us room. 20min later and with a wharf full of workers it jumped out the water to show us it was a Sambo. In it came slowly and with the wife at the ready with the net we landed it. My wife was so nervous as the guys kept singing out "don't miss it”. So with a cheer from the guys on the wharf, we had a 65cm Salmon landed with a 4lb line, Great fun and to have it jump was just like the TV.

  11. Thats for confirming more google search, so if there of legal size they would be classed as "Snapper"
  12. G'day Inked We're looking forward to Sat I'm stuck at home with a head cold today so hope the middle ear clears up. You had a great day fishing by the sounds, I too thought about a swim but the water was a bit murky in the day and was to scared to jump in along the coast, call me yellow. To add to my ever growing fishing knowledge whats a squire and whats a the "PB" stand for.
  13. Well just finished 5 from 9, not as good as snapper (from my last outing) but still a good feed, I would eat again without to much thought.
  14. Sweep ? I think your right (just googled) mmmm are they good eating? Oh well learnt a new fish, thanks
  15. Hi all, Just a quick post to let you know that today was a picture perfect day on the water. Put in a 8am out the heads and drifted north along the coast about 50-100 off shore. Our little 4lb'ers went crazy all day until we went in at 1'ish. Now strike the Rock Blackfish and add the word SWEEP (Thanks for the ID) i hope they are good eating just served them, got to go eat, I'll let you know. The largest was 34cm the rest at 31-32, tossed back 30cm and below. Also landed a nice 40cm Trevally (i have never heard my drag run like that before).
  16. If I did show you I'd have to kill you.......... I don't have a pic but it was about 200m off the breaks at the outer Northern Head of Botany Bay, There was a rock fisherman in the same area. Had them last night, steamed in some foil seasoned with butter salt-n-pepper, Both my sons and misses loved them
  17. nar it wasn't a cobia it looked more like a damsel (similar to the ones i had in my aqurium)
  18. Now don't quote me like some but it was about 18cm and was rock hard
  19. None taken as I checked and there was a parallax error (I didn't read my sons scale rule correctly), correction made. On the other hand had it been 40cm I would of hunted you down..........
  20. Thought I'd post my second report so here goes (shorter this time). Set out from Munch ramp on Botany Bay at about 6am, smooth and glasses on the way out. Bear Island was the 1st stop where we saw some birds (3) feeding on the service, not a thing. Went eastside of the Kurnell wharf (near the hatchery) and zip. Baclk to Moll's Pt and pulled up next to a nice bloke in a tinny, and in his words "not much here" and he was right. Ok my mate said lets poke our heads out of the bay near the Nth head, and there it was..... and we thought there were birds at Bear Island, about 50 sitting on the service with the same in the air. The water was boiling with...I think Salmon. We all got excited and though it all into the middle........ bite......bite..... then my mate had one, the fight was on but got close to the boat and gone. Tried and tried but could not hook up again, we quickly change from bait to lura but to late they were gone. So we nosed in close to the rocks and drifted back out across the mouth and BANG my 4lb line went a run'n, pulled in a nice Snapper (my first, 15,000 tiny ones don't count). I was wrapped. We went back again for the drift and BANG the 2nd snapper, and the biggest comming in at a whopping 35cm and 650g (Its big for me). Back again and you guessed it “BANG” but this time it spat the hook at the side of the boat. So back again and (I can't loose) Bang, 3 of the suckers. I also landed a large Wrasse, 2 red cods all went back. My poor old mate managed a black thing with a white strip and that was it. In all this action it was time to berley up, or should I say chuck, and yes there was carrot, my mate tried to poison me with a Chinese pork roll for breakfast, It wasn’t the roll but me. Now my line wasn't the standard "Snapper" jig you see in the books (the ones I read), it was a No 2 long shank with a small ball sinker running free and to the hook, no swivel. Oh and the bait we used was pilli's and the wonderful Aldi peeled Prawns (I cought all my fish and prawns) Hey it worked.
  21. Thanks for the comments, no it wasn't a recap to which i was surprised it happened as well.
  22. Some of the ones i cut had a shit load of little bitty babies crawling on the pliers. I started pulling them off for the fishes but reading some more about them they "replace" the tongue plate of the fish so if you remove an adult one to fish has no tongue and may die. It reads they don't seem to effect the fishes life span so next time i might take a look and leave them be, don't want one laying eggs in my skin, I'll scratch the little pimple in a week or 2 and find 100's of them crawling out.
  23. Yep there the buggers, my son loved them and wanted to take some home to play with. For those interested here's a a pic of the Cymothoid "Some species of isopods live parasitically on fish, either externally or internally. One particular group, the cymothoid isopods, can live inside the mouth of a fish. Scientists believe that these isopods hook their legs into the base of the fish’s tongue, causing it to wither and eventually fall off. This leaves room for the isopod to live. (Scientists believe this does not affect the fish’s lifespan!) Some species live off the blood of the host fish, while others feed off the mucus within the fish’s mouth. The mouth parts and legs of all these isopods are well adapted for clinging to the host."
  24. "how did the trailer land when the tire blew out?" Only the outer tread came away so it was still rolling on the flat casing. "did it go bananas?" No it was pretty well balanced, the trailer stayed straight with no jack-knife in site. I was towing with the commorde so the weight was well balanced, had it been a lighter tow vehicle there might of been a problem. "was the tire still connected?" No the tread came off and wrapped around the axle behind the wheel, I sliced my hand on the steal belt getting it of.
  25. They don't fight much, more like a heavy drag with a couple of light pull now and again. I'll give it a go and let you know. People say that the trav's are bonny but I love them. Thanks for the comments, and the blow-out was coming and should of picked it up earlier as there was a small wobble at low speed and but I it down to wheel alignment. I think the tread was slowly peeling from the mould.
