  1. Morning all, Does anybody know where's the best place to pick up a impeller kit for a DT85 (1984) Suzuki ??? I'm also want to replace the anodes, I found the rectangle ones but can't find a part No reference for the the "fin" anode mounted under the cavitation plate. Any help would be appreciated.
  2. Though I would add one, I love this pic'y. Can you guess where?
  3. is that before or after he shows me his retrieval method, when you look at the rod tip it swings from a-hole to breakfast. I even tried it on the day I'll check the calendar as we might even make it ourselves, but I'm sure if I asked him he would be love to.
  4. It was a great day, he loves the water and helps prep the boat at home and drives it when he can. Thanks for all the great comments, he said thank you after I read them out. PS he told his grandparents that he call all the fish and i caught none (which was almost true as i had a shocker, dropped 3 one of which jumped off the cutting board straight into the water.
  5. My wife, 4yo son and I arrived at Mutch Ave ramp today to find a new pontoon and walkway, not sure i like the pontoon as its a hard nylon type bumper (lots of scratches for the fiberglass). Hit the bay at 8:15 and headed out to the runways for zip, drifted a bit for some nibbles then over to the oil wharf as the tide turned to exit the bay. The boy wanted to cast and retrieve and I didn't like the idea of bait slapping all over the boat so I gave him a SP. Next was a 5min casting course and we almost fell off my chairs when has was casting a good 15m from the boat, not just once but ever time. So after 15min of cast and retrieve I noticed his SP was half its size. On closer inspection it was found with "teeth marks" as per the 4yo. So my wife and I looked at each other and thought if he gets hit he might end up in the drink especially as the guy next to us brought in a rat kingy. On goes a new SP and 15min later (after a great cast) he sings out "Dad I got 1" and he did. After some scary moments of winding it in with the 4lb rod going everywhere, we see some colour. He then wants to grab the net, not only does he cast, retrieved he even landed it (with some help from mum). All in all a good day, the 4yo now has a 32cm Trevally PB and we came home with a feed of 5 more and a legal red'y to boot.
  6. HI guys, You can buy the charger add on circuit in kit form from JayCar (Click Here) To check your battery with a volt meter it should be approx 12.6V when not in use and with all accessories turned off. Check it after you come home (this will give the battery time to level out after charging on while running). Then check it again the following day, it shouldn't be lower then 12.6. Under 12.0v = LOW 12.0V = 50% 12.6V = 100% 13.2V = Charging (from your outboard but I have found you need trolling revs at least) 14.5V = Max Charge You should use a Hydrometer to check the battery fluid inside the battery to give you the state of your battery exactly. Again allow the battery to stand after charing as it will give you false readings. To check the battery drain with a amp-meter do the following. Turn off all accessories turn off keys etc as you would leave the boat during storage. Remove the + (Pos) lead from the battery and place the amp-meter in series between the battery terminal and the battery lead. You should read 0 amps, if you read Amps you have left something on or have a major short circuit, if you read milliamps you have a device (like a radio in standby) or a short circuit somewhere in the boat. You can also have leakage current running across the top of the battery if its damp as the salt acts like a conductor. Dry the battery and keep it clean and salt free. I don't have a battery disconnect switch but do have separate on/off switches on all of the accessories.
  7. Feather Worms or Hydroides norvegica There case or "home" is are called calcareous tubes (I think a type of Limestone) so I think the only way to remove them would be a scrapper. You could try some hydrochloric acid but that might damage you boat. The smell is because they are a live worm which obviously died out of the water. They prove that the water quality is actually improving. I to have them in my aquarium.
  8. G'day, I use a bait holder hook sometimes (you can get long shank as well) they have small bards on the shank. Feed the nipper on tail first, then when he's on all the way to the eye do 2 back loops of line around the tail and shank of the hook. This "ties" the tail to the hook and sometimes holds as least the tail section in place for the "keepers" to take.
  9. Photos need to be small in file size, use this great program to re-size them down to 640x480 then "save as" to a jpg at 80% should do it. If the file size is still to big, reduce the 80% slide bar down. InFranView Image Viewer Final Download Plugins
  10. The Bag 1 x Trevally 47cm 1 x Tailor 40cm 1 x flathead 36cm The Gear 6lb Mono ET Limited Shimano Aernos 2000 Where Wife, No 2 son & I hit Cooks River ramp at 07:00 Saturday and away we went (after a small donation to the Volunteer Coast Card and some new stickers for the boat). Over to the Oil Wharf and here comes the wifes 1st keeper, the biggest trevally we've caught in the bay at 47cm and 690g cleaned without a head . Now for me, a shitload of pinkies no keepers Over to Moll's Pt for zip, back to the other side of the oil wharf and morrrrrrrrre pink'ies. Then we thought we might drift home across the bay, here comes the wifes next keeper, flathead. Drifted closer to the 1st runway and bang the wifes 3rd, a nice Tailor. 12. Thanks guys for all the comments, I should be out again this weekend for a repeat performance, I hope. I have the kingy bug so I'm going to rig up a spare rod and actually try and target them instead of the blind shithouse luck I used last week.
  13. Mate I'm do'en the bloody lawns (didn't get done yesterday, the boat needed a run so it wouldn't seize ) They did but I need to learn to jig if I want to continue.
  14. Hi all, (and yes gtstoka I'm at home today, stop surfing the net at work). The Bag 2 x 60cm Kings 2 x travally 1 x bream 1 x flathead 1 x tailor Where Hit Mutch Av ramp at 07:15 yesterday and needed to park on the street Poke my head out in open water just to come back in as i didn't feel like bobbing around like a paper boat in a kids play pool. Watts reef landed 1 King'y my first at 60cm West side of the oil wharf flathead Further west of the oil wharf about 100m 2 travally and bream. Drifting in front of the 1st runway 2nd King'y (60cm) and 1 tailor Didn't catch many throw backs The Bust offs 2 both on the 4 pound Shimano, 1 workmanship failure (I remember doing a quick knot for my young fellow after the fact) and 2, the bastard took my 12lb leader around a marker after stripping a good 50m off the little Shimano and shredded it. On went the 25lb leader but didn't hook up on the 4lb'er again. Both felt like were good fish, probably king'ys as I'm now an expert The Bait Peeled Prawn The pics

    Fuel Tanks ?

Ah another 492F boater great boats (I'm bias), just a question on the need for 120L, where do you fish and where have you found that 80L isn't enough?
  16. Just a question, does your fuel tank run front to back or side to side? Its probably front to back but is it isn't maybe the fuel is washing side to side in the following seas?
  17. Thanks mate but do you follow it??
  18. Robbielites, Your right, there are those among us that would always lend a hand to help fellow boaties. On countless occasions I have helped and others have help me on/off the ramp, towed people back etc etc and I'm the first to thank them. I hope that the majority of people out their have the courtesy to offer help but there are others that simply aren't worth the oxygen they breath and put peoples lives in danger. I now there are countless stories of both good and bad but the bad (unfortunately) stand out as they generally put the people we love in danger. And again if the guys who passed me within 5m read this I just hope its an eye opener to let you know that you don't own the water as its there for everyone to enjoy safely.
  19. Found the following tips on the maritime website and wondered if fellow boaters agree?? oh and I like the official term "getting scary" Maritime Link Wave Size/Boat Size It is vital to know the performance capabilities and limitations of a boat before buying. Take great care to select a boat which will be able to handle the types of condition you expect to come across. A Cautionary Note The tables below are indicative only and do not reflect the performance of any particular design or model of craft. It should also be remembered that a combination of factors such as currents, tidal streams and geographical features can create dangerously unpredictable conditions. An example of this is when a fast running tide or current is flowing over a rock shelf or sand bar against a contrary wind. Bold is Boat Length then underneath Wave Height followed by Boating Conditions 3.5metres 1.0 metres heavy going, limit of safety for this sized vessel 0.8 metres speed reduced, water comes aboard, care required 0.5 metres speed reduced, some pounding at speed 0.2 metres gentle patter of water on hull, no spray, comfortable 4.3metres 1.5 metres for the experienced only, lots of heavy water thrown aboard 1.2 metres throttle backed right off, lots of spray, getting scary 1.0 metres speed reduced further, green seas taken on the decks 0.8 metres speed reduced, some pounding, spray taken aboard 0.5 metres maximum cruising throttle, slight bumps, spray thrown clear 0.2 metres no spray, comfortable ride, gentle patter of water on hull 5 metres 1.8 metres limit of family comfort in this sized vessel 1.5 metres steering through seas individually and using throttle at times 1.2 metres dead slow, waves break on deck, lots of spray 1.0 metres half speed, spray and green seas come aboard 0.8 metres slight speed reduction desirable, moderate pounding, some spray 0.5 metres set cruising throttle, slight bumps, spray thrown clear 0.2 metres no spray, armchair ride 6 metres 2.0 metres dead slow, occasional big seas break aboard, for the experienced skipper only 1.8 metres dead slow, steering individually for the seas 1.5 metres windscreen sprayed, green seas on foredeck 1.2 metres half speed, lots of spray, water on foredeck 1.0 metres slight speed reduction, spray coming aboard aft end of boat 0.8 metres reduced speed, pounding increases 0.5 metres maximum cruising throttle, some light pounding 0.2 metres great ride, like an automobile on bitumen
  20. I doubt there is any problem with that its only for cooling nothing more, in fact it might help! I'm assuming its a 2 stroke and given that the exhaust contains portions of unburnt oil, this may help lube your water pump etc and coat the internals to help prevent rust. I've laid an old towel, heshen bag on top of the water that picks up the oil film from the top of the water as I don't like cleaning the driveway later.
  21. Just thought I'd vent here as I could only shout at these 3 d!ckheads as they went passed. I took my family (mum, dad, better 1/2, and 4yo) out on the water in Botany Bay (La Perouse) yesterday for a morning of boating and swimming, a great day minus the pr!cks. We left La Perouse just as the wind picked up and the peaks were starting to form as I had a young one and my parents. Then my misses said "look at this guy", I turned around and this absolute moron with this 2 d!ckhead mates passed within 5 m from us, he had the WHOLE BLOODY BAY TO PASS....... It wasn't a small boat, I'd say about a 18" and as it was choppy from the NW he wasn't on a full plain so the wake was large to say the least. Now I'm not a small guy coming in at 6'3 and over 100kg so if i could of reached over (almost could of) I would of ripped them a new one............ I just hope you read this post so you can think of overs on the water and not just think of your-ignorant-thoughtless-****head-selves.
  22. mmmm so I'm guessing the day wasn't that good, no wait reading between the lines, na i think you have made up your mind. I was out today with the family and it was a good day (thought i'd add another positive comment).
  23. Hi all, Quick report for Botany Bay. My mum and I headed out about 08:30 (between all the speed boats $$$$$) over to Kurnell Oil Wharf and anchored up with about 6 other boats. Burlied up and in come the redies. I floated a No 2 long shank out and landed a 41cm Trevally, my biggest to date in the Bay. Landed one more at 37cm and their baby. A Sargent Baker then wanted the No 2 long shunt as a permanent throat ornament so i cut the line and let him limp home. I then picked up the 4lb'er and felt a heavy drag, yes the good old octopus. This time he was hooked good and proper through the tentacle. I brought him up to the surface near the boat to remove the hook and he grabbed it. I d'hooked him but he hung around on the back of the boat for about 10min. At about 11:30 the Southerly hit and it went from glass to chop in a matter of minutes. Head back but the ramp was full of speed boats coming & going so waited in line with all the other boats running from the southerly. Chat to you next time.
