  1. Nah sorry can't help you with that one, I'd only be guessing if I told you I knew.
  2. Great report pmak! Funny that we both headed south after the bad weather cancelled the social. I just missed you guys because I was there on Tuesday arvo and Wednesday at dawn, but I didn't get the sun shine as you did. I didn't get the nice feed of fish as you did either But two flatties were good on SPs. I'm also waiting for the next time down there...when the weather warms up a bit!!
  3. Hey mate, I fished Burrill Lake last week and caught two flatties - 38 cm each off the jetty next to the boat ramp. But that was before the heavy winds came to the area. A bloke caught a good sized bream off the same jetty that day. He was using bait and I was on SPs. It's the weather mate, the waters still a touch cold for anything big. The effects of the fish kill seem to have been flushed out of the waterway. A bloke from the tackle store told me that they have been doing a lot of testing and levels of the alga in the water are low and the lake is getting back to what its known for.Look forward to seeing the pics of the big ones you get on your next trip there.
  4. Nice work mate. It's great to see such big flatties in the bay. I was fishing off Como marina on Monday and all we got was small bream taking off with our baits..guess its another reason to get a boat.
  5. Thanks mate. Yeah the coin was not the issue. The issue was why was a made in China product not cheaper. Anyways I'll keep looking.
  6. yeah thanks mate...I saw that too. But I put it up because most raiders rave about their Pflueger rods, and its amazing to hear that someone thinks that there's something better out there. So I guess as you've experienced, once you've got a Pflueger, there's nothing better. Thanks Fezza! Yeah I thought that it was too good to be true that something would put Pflueger to shame.
  7. Awesome report mate! Nice quality pics as well (you don't need the DSLR camera) Well keep the posts rolling mate.
  8. Nice work Paul! Good feed there. Yeah went down last week to Burrill Lake and caught two nice flatty despite the overcast weather.
  9. I went into a tackle store earlier this week to look at some rods. Initially went looking for a Pflueger blank, but the owner said he had something better and presented a blank to me from a company called TAIRYO. The technology is cutting edge and with Fuji K-series guides it was hard to go past, well that's until I found out it was made in China! Just wondering if anyone uses the rod and rates it when compared with more well known brands?
  10. Yeah mate on holidays for another week, so give us a yell when you're free.
  11. Yeah its all ok now... I asked the bloke at the tackle store about that and apparently the system has been flushed with fresh water from rains since then. Also the bloke said that there's been continuous testing of the fish and water since and reports are coming back safe for human consumption. Have to go with the local intelligence on this one.
  12. Nice work mate! If only I could bring in a haul like that...the only haul I get these days when I can't sleep comes from the kebab shop. I'll go fishing next time!!
  13. Nice work Rob! That's an awesome haul from the Georges. Yeah just got back from down south and got a few flatties but nothing much seeing that I was confined to the rocks and jetties.
  14. Just had a few days unwinding down near Mollymook with the family and happy to come home with 2 flatties from Burrill Lake. It was a good time of fishing different locations on SP i.e. wharves, inlets and of course Burrill Lake, and having good chats with the local fishing shop owners to see where to go. Anyways was a bit discouraged when the first shop I went into, the bloke told me I was a month too early and that the big flatties wouldn't be around until the water got warmer. He told me to have a go at one of the jetties which he highly recommended. So turn up with my wife and little girl and get met with overcast skies which were threatening to rain on my parade. But after missing out on the Botany Bay social, I needed to get out there(put out a bait as well as a feeler). A few minutes later a few bait fish come near the jetty and then this beautiful ray glided past, and with the lake being this healthy I thought I'd be real grumpy if I went home with nothing. Well one of the casts was great, sent it out past some ducks (so I thought), then I felt some tension and a duck who was having problems taking off. Hooked the duck!!! Scared for my life, thinking someone must be putting two and two together and thinking that I'm going to take the duck home to make Peking duck or something....I blame my asian ancestry! Well quickly got the duck in and cut my line from around him....crisis over. So a few moments later, put out a nice cast and the SP got carried in the wind and start the slow retrieve and TENSION, hooked a flatty and landed it with no worries. A guy next to me landed a nice bream afterwards and then it started to rain. Didn't have enough the previous day so wake up at 5:30am to hit the lake, this time landing another flatty before the rain came down..so in the end nothing too big - 2 flatties @ 38 cm a piece, but not bad for a time when the lake isn't meant to be firing I've attached the pic of the first flattie I got, didn't have a camera for the early morning one the next day.
  15. Nice work again Gilbey! Keep the reports and photos coming. Love the size of those fish mate.
  16. Nice report Gilbey as always. I like the pics as well. So did you eat the boni or using it for bait for another day?
  17. Great report Hodgey. Thanks for giving us beginners the info on the set-up of your rod as well, it helps to know what works.
  18. Great report mate. It was an awesome haul. So how you going to cook the shark on the barbie?
  19. Great haul mate! Very impressive indeed.
  20. Nice fish mate! Thanks for the report. I like your cooking ideas more though
  21. Nice work mate! Good PB!
  22. Nice work Gilbey! I like the pics. How come you always pull in the big ones when it looks the most unlikely? At least you got home without a flat tyre this time.
  23. I used Fireline Crystal in the past but am on Fireline Exceed. Fireline Exceed its doing all the right things so far as casting distance and knot tying and strength. In saying that, it takes some time to get use to the thinner diameter.
  24. Yeah thanks Rikki for the awesome day out, and teaching us all you know. Spoz (Simon) and I learnt a lot and I knew they'd be biting once we left!! Let's do it again some time, hopefully we can out-do your pb next time.
