  1. Sydneyfisher12 are you talking about Drummoyne bay for the bream. Taking a mate fishing for his birthday on the harbour in a few weeks and keen to get him some bream on lure.
  2. Great photos and good fish. Can't ask for any more when you take the kids out
  3. Nice catch. You don't have to give me your spot but curious about where you got the bream was it near the mouth or past the bridge.
  4. Great fish. Good work on letting her go too. Hope you catch her again in 10cm time
  5. Got out on the Hawkesbury the other week with my uncle, brother in law and four year old son. Headed to the mouth of the river to see if there was any surface action unfortunately it was dead. Moved around to the palm beach flats to see if we could get some bream but my son kept getting snagged so started heading back toward Patonga beach when we came across these guys. A mother and calf whale. The calf was having so much fun splashing about. We cut the engine and watched for a while. I could not believe how many people drove right up to within 10 metres was just waiting for the mother to turn on them. It did not take long for the whales to move on after this. It was truly an amazing experience to be so close to a whales. We decided it was time to catch some fish so headed to Patonga to try to get some flathead ( I had read here people were catching them there). We did a drift on both sides but could not even get a bite. We then tried Juno point for nothing was starting to get a bit worried I have never experienced it like this before it was so dead. I decided it was time to head up river so moved to the rail bridge for the change of tide. Just before the tide switched from incoming to outgoing my rod bent over. I could tell from the runs it was a jewfish although as I was using pretty light gear it was hard to gauge its size always feels bigger than it is. We managed to catch one each as the school went through. I didn't measure them but all were released to catch again next time. The jewfish were caught on squid this was the first time I have used bait in about a year as I normally use lures so it was fun to go back to it. Even though we only caught a few fish it was such a memorable day
  6. All fish caught were released in Bayview Park.
  7. Whatacatch, Thats right all fish are keeped in a live well weighed then released
  8. Great fish well done. What boat ramp is that in the back of the photo?
  9. Was a great season last year. I got mine in Waratah bay. Your technique is the same as what i used. When you hear the stories coming in here and they will get out there.
  10. Great fish, well done there are some big fish in the Hawkesbury. You have my vote for COTM. We caught a 80+ flathead there on the weekend and i was kicking myself for not taking a photo with a can but am not so upset now. Where did you get the fresh squid?
  11. Thanks for the votes I am happy now the blue marlin looks awesome and will probably win but stoked some of you like my flatie
  12. Another picture of her. She is fish 1 in the January catch of the month so I would appreciate your vote. Best fish I have ever caught.
  13. Great fish. I am going fishing tomorrow morning never caught a jewfish of size before any chance you could pm me your spot. I also keep checking the NSW tide guide and the change of tide never seems to match. Can you also tell me what time the tide changed on that sunday so I can work out how far out the tide guide is a rough time would be fine if you remember.
  14. Glad your boat was ok after the run in with the rock. It can be pretty scary at night. I did a similar think last year and completely beached the boat. I was lucky as the rock was covered in a thick moss and there was no damage but it really put me off night fishing. Sounds like a good fishing session you had though congratulations on the jew really keen to get one of those myself. If anyone has some tips for safer night fishing I have created a post under boating it may save a boat or someones life one day so appreciate any tips you guys can add.
  15. Night fishing can be really dangerous. I know you must wear a life jacket if you are on a boat under 4.8m and out at night but I would appreciate if you could all share your tips for navigating at night , lighting and any other tips you may have to make boating safer.
  16. Not a bad idea though just got to fix my seat first

  18. Is there anywhere I can pick up squid?
  19. Thanks for the help really appreciate it. Pretty excited to fish somewhere different and I have heard it can be good there. How deep does the lake get and what is the average depth.
  20. Sadly I have to agree with you all. It has been very quiet lately. I also learnt to fish there as a boy. Nearly all my catches have been catch and release so it is disappointing that if things stay the same my 2 year old son will miss out on fishing what used to be a great place to fish. Out of curiosity how far up the river are the netters allowed. I have seen netters fishing the corner of milson island up near bar point. I used to think this area didn't get much attention. Clearly I was wrong.
  21. I am heading up to Newcastle next weekend. My mate has a new boat and we are going to christen it. We have not fished the area before and are looking to put in at Speers point. Can someone give me an idea of what we should target and where we should fish.
  22. See my report beautiful big girl. Caught an 87cm Flathead at the mooney mooney bridge but took a long time to get her and no other real bites.
  23. Thanks for the replies still cant believe my luck. I was cleaning up a little tonight and found the 60lb leader I used to catch her she had a real go at it. Can't wait to get out there again.
  24. Great catch and a great way to start the new year. Hope it is the start of more things to come. Very nice Jew fish they are on my target list for the new year. Cheers Rob (Aussieweekender)
  25. I have not tried Brooklyn for live bait so i will be interested to hear how you go. I have always got my live bait near patonga and the beach before patonga just after Juno point. You will need to berley up to find them and they are not always there. There were some last night though so i would think they will still be there tomorrow. Good luck it was very quiet for us with few bites around the bridges but the big fish we caught made it all worth it.
