Bit of a late report but went out with the old man on Tuesday 2nd Oct for the first kingy outing of the season...
First thing first was the bait, we managed 5 southern calamari after only one of our six squiding locations produced. I think the conditions were tough as we did notice quiet a few pods of dolphins about and the water was still a bit green.
Anyway got the downriggers out and hit a few marks in the harbour with not much happening and the water temp at 16 degrees decided to try a few marks west of the spit were the water got upto 17 degrees. We manged 4 rat kings all in the
60-65cm bracket...nothing to boast about but it was good to get out and have some sort of success.
Weather conditions for this summer are looking good incomparison to last season so lets hope the kings show up in numbers and size
