  1. Im downrigging in 25m+ over inshore reefs but my current setup isnt getting down well enough unless the current and wind are on the low side.. Logic would say heavier bomb and lighter braid on the downrigger eqauls better vertical positining and less lift in the water coloum. I currently run 200lbs braid with 8lb bomb but it isnt working on those stong current. The coastline and the harbour downrigging its fine. Think im just gonna have to trial and error
  2. Has anyone had any experiance in running 100lbs braid on there downrigger whilst using 8-10lbs bombs? Besides snagging the bottom and increasing the chance of a lost bomb can anyone else see other issues?
  3. Some good fun atleast, we too had a simlar day out on the fads with micro kingfish and dollies...plenty of them
  4. For us squid is the go , the only success we have with yakkas are when they are small...never had a big yakka taken by a king...on the other hand slimies are better if you can get them
  5. Was there 2 weeks ago.. Loads of bait slimies, yakkas and squid but not a single targeted fish caught so don't feel bad it's still a nice part of the world to be
  6. Hi Raiders, i'm looking for a hand held gps unit that has aus66 reading capabilities. Please PM me is you guys have any recommendations...It would be much appreciated
  7. Bit of a late report but went out with the old man on Tuesday 2nd Oct for the first kingy outing of the season... First thing first was the bait, we managed 5 southern calamari after only one of our six squiding locations produced. I think the conditions were tough as we did notice quiet a few pods of dolphins about and the water was still a bit green. Anyway got the downriggers out and hit a few marks in the harbour with not much happening and the water temp at 16 degrees decided to try a few marks west of the spit were the water got upto 17 degrees. We manged 4 rat kings all in the 60-65cm bracket...nothing to boast about but it was good to get out and have some sort of success. Weather conditions for this summer are looking good incomparison to last season so lets hope the kings show up in numbers and size Tight lines
  8. Finally a solid kingfish report ...Time to dust of the gear, spring is near. Great fish fellas:yahoo:
  9. One rat and lost one at the boat due to pulled hooks...estimate high 80s
  10. Hi mate...we went out today and got 2 kings down rigging of moli..As for an alternative to downrigging you can use a knife jig or sinker over 400grms and simply taking the boat in and out of gear. Hope it helps
  11. Weight wise yes...not length wise...would have fought like hell...
  12. Congrats Andrew...what a mammoth....
  13. Nice work fellas...its definatly been a year with alot of prospecting to find the kings
  14. Great vid...lets hope its one of many to come..
  15. Any raiders out there fish for Port Stephens kings? Going out on my 5.2m trailer boat next week and any names of good kingy grounds/wrecks/reefs/drops would be great...PM me...any help would be great...(First time fishing there)
  16. Good on ya for finding the squid..We found the going hard to pull up some squid so ended up jigging the inshore reefs....pulled in a couple of kings (Biggest going 83cm) and 6 bonnies. Weather wasn't the greatest
  17. Some nice fish there Andrew...What day did you go out?
  18. Don't sweat it mate, we too had it tuff (kingy wise)...got to the bait grounds and scored 6 nice size calamari within half an hour. Decided to go out wide due to the green water inside the harbour and to my surprise it stayed green 10kms out. We hit nearly every reef and wreck from bondi to narrabeen (That we know off)...and all the reefs u mentioned minus 12mile/peak without a touch or a sign of king on the sounder. Strangely enough we decided to make a stop at the heads before calling it quits and manage 3 rats... Very disappointing day but wasnt the weather great
  19. So... envious Jim, thought you`d gone off fishraider with the lack of post but cant blame ya for the super slow start to the season. Funny how you equal Andrews sydneys PB but a fatter ( Sorry Drew) Always feels good to smash a PB...u deserve it
  20. Damn La Nina... we got caught up in the down pour on Sunday...Twice! All we got were 7 baby squid and a bonnie, no kings.. Good on you guys for persevering. Lets hope next season is a El Nino
  21. Yeah its super quiet for this time of the year... but we managed four kings over two trips. The BOM websites looks promising as the water heats up
