  1. Hi all

spoke to my bff late sat night and decided to hit the bay to test his new daiwa saltiga rod and my new Saragossa 8000sw

the forecast was not good at all for Sunday 3m swell with over 30kph winds plus 40% showers

got to the ramp around 8am and the car park was empty only half a dozen trailers

not looking good at all had a quick look and the water was choppy and the wind was blowing around 20kph

cant see any other boat in the water at all

anyway still decided to have a look and see if we can handle the conditions

plan a was to catch some livebait and try the kingy spot

got to the bait spot and was surprise to see a 3m tinny with two blokes so we anchored near the other boat and started to burley

got around half a dozen yakkas and half a dozen bream just around the 20cm mark that went back to grow more

with 6 yakkas in the tank decided to check the kingy spot and see if it’s fishable

passed mollipoint and there was not a single boat in sight

got to the kingy spot and the swell is more than 2m

took a while to anchor and setout two livebait

Saw around a dozen surfers nearby and a lone rocks fisho with his wife and son

after about half hour the anchor came off so decided to move back to safer grounds which was plan b

put two yakkas on float and started to burley

It didn’t take long until we got a kingy on board the boat

The kingy took the chicken fillet on a 10lb trace with size 4 circle hook

the kingy measured 50cm so back it went to grew more

the live yakkas went off and after about 5mins we got a very fat salmon on the boat

my bff finally christened his daiwa rod hoping for a hoody but the salmon fought hard and did a couple of jumps and a couple of runs which was awesome to see but no match for the rod

for the next couple of hours we landed 4 salmon 5 kingys up to 60cm a dozen slimys and half dozen yakkas

wind started to blow harder so decided to pack up around 3pm

it was a bit rough heading back to the ramp with plenty of potholes all the way

it was a good day even though the conditions were not so ideal

hoping the kingys will be all legal by the end of next month

    thanks for reading

Nice work fisho, so what I was saying in another thread is pretty much spot on!

The rats have now become very picky & you really need to be using live baits now.

Next Friday Om out there, 1st thing will to get some live yakka's.

    Thanks for the update

    thanks mate

    goodluck on friday

hoping we can get out there again soon

were hoping the kingys will be legal by april

  4. hi raiders

got the day off so decided to hit botanybay again still trying to catch that elusive hoody

got home from work around 2am didnt get to sleep until 3am and the alarm went off at 5am

packed the gear and pick up my mate just before 6am

took about 1hr to get to my mate baz with the boat and took almost another hour to hit the ramp

anyway quickly loaded up the boat and headed straight to molli pt

decided to troll molli hoping to get hit by a big one or anything really

we were using the mackbait 5in in blue and the rapala in ghost

we put the ghost at the bottom about 10m using the downrigger and the mackbait on top

after about 30mins of going up and down molli pt with no hits and lost the ghost lure by getting snag at the bottom we decided to catch some livebait

got to our livebait spot and within 5mins we got a rat to 55cm on the boat

what a good start so after a quick pic the rat went back in to grow more

for the next hour we just kept on catching rats after rats after rats so we decided to move to my mate baz hoody spot with about a dozen yakkas and slimys

setup two livebait with floats but after 2hrs with no hits we decided to go back to our livebait spot hoping to catch a legal kingy

once we got back to our livebait spot it didnt take long to start catching rats after rats after rats for the next 2hrs

biggest rat i caught was 62cm

caught an oz salmon over the 60cm on live yakka we were hoping it was a legal kingy

wind started to blow so we decided to pack up and head back to the ramp around 3pm

we ended up landing over 30 rats lost over a dozen on the side of the boat and we left the rats biting

it was the best day for us chasing kingys

we were using 2000 2500 daiwa combos with 10lb trace

landing those rats using those daiwa combos are so much fun

we were using slimys pillys chicken for bait on a size 4 circle hooks

hope we can get that elusive hoody soon before the summer ends

ended up taking home the salmon slimys yakkas which were all given to our visitor from brisbane

we also caught 1 bream and 1 samsonfish which the wife kept

    thanks for reading

You were indeed very lucky not to be on the news mate. What were the causes of the 2 problems which you had (the water in the boat and the trailer wheel)? Hope you manage effective repairs and can get back on the water soon. Cheers, bn

one fo the bungs got a leak so need to replace it and need to replace the bilge pump too

need to replace the wheel bearings on the wheels or just replace the whole trailer with the new one

wont be using the boat until we can fix the trailer and the boat

wont be fishing until the end of feb atm due to work commitments so hopefully we can find the time in between to fix everything

Slimy's are excellent on the table, any pommy recipe book with mackerel will be referring to the Slimy . I sometimes target them for the table. But don't tell anyone or they might become hard to catch.

    Frank

plenty of slimys out there atm

just need to burley and you will definitely catch plenty

Awesome morning on the water.    Sounds like you have a few jobs to do before hitting the water again.

    yes mate

weve been having excellent fishing trips since december when the weather permits

we wont be going out until my mate richard fixed the trailer the pump the bung

    not worth taking the risks

Plenty of slimey macks there. Will make good salted baits.

I have cut off the fillets and removed the bones from them a few times, bread crumbed and pan fried them. Fairly good eating, and high in the good fish oils. Bleed them if they are for eating.

    yes mate

    excelllent bait

we fried smoked and all our friends love eating slimys

  9. hi raiders

hit botany bay again hoping for a hoody

got to the ramp around 4am and the carpark was almost full

quickly loaded up the boat and headed straight to molly

plenty of boats already sitting at the point

got to our spot and there were already 4 boats sitting there

quicky made the burley and starting catching yakkas and slimys

set out our first yakka on float

one of my bff basil gave my a new float to try

he thinks ill get a better strike rate with the new float

he had half a dozen strikes using the new float landing 3 losing 3 with only 1 keeper at 76cm

drop the yakka to about 3m under the float

by 6am there were dozens of boats around us

one boat was getting too close to where we anchor and the skipper kept on going around us coz we were catching and they werent

some people just got no manners whatsoever

got fed up with the smart comments from the other boat so i told them to get lost

anyway filled up the esky with slimys amd yakkas

landed 9 rat kingys up to 60cm lost over a dozen on the side of the boat with the hooks coming off and got busted half a dozen times on the 2000 and 2500 daiwa combos using 10lb line 10lb trace size 4 circle hook

we were using chicken pillys slimys for bait

also landed 1 oz salmon over the 60cm which took the yakka on float

half a dozen kingys took the live yakka more than half a dozen on bait

even got a kingy hang out on the side of the boat feeding on the pilly burley

decided to pack up around 10am due to other commitments

on the way back to the ramp we noticed that our boat had water on floor and we can only do about 5knots in full throttle

the bilge pump didnt work so my mate richard had to use the bucket to try remove some water from the boat while i drove the boat back to the ramp

took awhile to get back to the ramp

got back to richards house and we noticed that the right wheel of the boat trailer was about to come off

we were very lucky that it didnt come off while we were doing 80kph on the freeway

    thanks for reading

we all felt very lucky today that we got home safe

we could have made the news while we were on the water and when we were on the way home

    big lessons learned

    be safe everyone

Well done, that charter sounds like great value and Hobart is a great place to stay!

    thanks mate

yes i highly recommend stewart from eaglehawk neck

stewart been doing charter for over 20yrs

hobart is one of those places if you want a very peaceful very quiet very beautiful place to stay

  11. hi raiders

decided to chase the sbt this year so packed my gear and went to tasmania with my bffs

booked a charter located at eaglehawk neck (stewart). the charter cost $220 for a full day so me and my 3 bffs paid $880 for the charter from 7am to 3pm

we stayed at hobart so its about 1hr drive to eaglehawk neck

took around 45mins to reach our spot from the ramp and it didnt take that long to catch our 1st albacore

we bag out on the albys in around 2hrs thats 5 each

the albys were around 2-3kg each

dropped plenty of albys on the side of the boat

even caught a baby mako on a laserpro gold that was the first time to see one on lure

we were using livelylures mackbait in blue yellow pink

the blue mackbait caught most of the albys

decided to bottombash hoping to hook a mako

    were fishing in 150m deep

we were using alby fillets for bait

caught 1 school shark 1 ray dozens of flattys around the 60cm

also caught other sharks but only kept the school shark

trolled more afterwards hoping for a bluefin but we kept on catching albys

unfortunately we didnt catch a bluefin but it was the best weekend so far at tasmania with my bffs

    thanks for reading
