  7. Mate just remember the forecast can be 40% more so 1.6m can be over 2mMy advice is check the forecast the night before then after 4am on the day you go I wont fish that ledge if the forecast is over 1.5m Make sure you always wear the safety gear (boots/pfd) all the time Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk
  8. Just put on your gps or googlemaps the following address1 avoca drive avoca beach It will take you to the carpark near the rock pool and just follow the path to the ledge Please be very careful when the swell is over 2m The ledge goes under most of the time when the swell is up Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk
  9. Hi all My eldest son kept on asking me to take him fishing. Decided to hit avoca since we havent been there since easter last year. Arrived at the spot around 530am. Carpark almost empty. Not a good sign. Quickly got our gear and straight to the ledge. Only a dozen fishos. While rigging up the fisho next to our left got a bite but didn't land the fish. His line broke off. Told my son and my mate that looks like the bonito are biting. Quickly cast a whole pilly on float and gave it to my son. Quickly rigged another rod with squid skirts n float. Were not getting bites on the pilly so i started spinning the skirts. After about 15mins i got my first bite. This thing was pulling heaps of line so decided to tighten the drag. After about 5mins i landed my 1st mack tuna for the year around 3kg. My mate landed 3 small bonito in arounds 30mins. My landed another 2 mack tuna in an hour while i landed my my 2nd bonito for the year on the rapala cd7 firetiger. There were steady bites until around 9am and then it really slowed down after. A fish landed in average of 15mins on lures and bait. Just i was packing up around 10am a fisho landed a legal kingy on lure. 1st legal kingy i saw landed for the year. Left the ledge around 11am and got home around 1pm. Good to see that the bonito were at avoca today. Those mack tuna are huge. Biggest ones ive seen so far. Hope to catch more soon. Thanks for reading. Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk

  12. Hi all Just want to know if anyone knows how to estimate the weight of the fish by measuring the length. Im looking for measurements for bluefin/yellowfin. Thanks in advance Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk
  13. Yes i have eaten a striped marlin...rated it at 3 out of 5...got a very strong taste when i cooked it pan fried and cut it like steak...i prefer the mako...Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk
  14. 6kg rod will do for the bonito and salmon with 12lb main. I suggest you use a leader between 20-30lb. You can use a swivel between the main and leader or just use double uni. Just watch the swell before you start spinning. A close mate of mine had fallen off that ledge years ago. He was lucky he was able to climb back up with only scratches and bruises. Just be careful and make sure you find a way to come back up just in case you fall over. Remember rescue can take a while to come. Please let me know how you go.Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk
  15. Hi all Just want to know if any fr will be competing this weekend on the 29th bill heyward? Forecast not looking good atm. Hopefully we can tag a couple of marlin and take some dollies home. Goodluck to those competing and if anyone wants to share intel pls pm me. Thanks Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk
  16. Best time to fish juliannes is low tide and swell below 1m Very limited spot...maximum 10 people on the spinning ledge Squid skirts on floats works well and hard bodies Be very careful and always take someone with you Going down to the ledge is ok but going back up is hard especially if you catch something big Travel light is recommended Before sunrise is the best time Goodluck and please be very careful It is one of the dangerous ledge in sydney for anyone specially for a newbie fishing off rocks Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk

  19. Navionics is an excellent app...been using it since sept 2015...only negative so far is the app uses alot of battery power so you need to bring a battery pack or charger if you are planning to use it all day... Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk

  21. Hi all My wifes nephew got a call from one of his mates and told him that there are plenty of squid at the queenscliff wharf. So quickly packed the squidding gear and off we went. 87kms in around 75mins. Got to the spot around 1030pm. Cant believe what i saw. The wharf was packed to the rafters. At least 50 people on the wharf. Rods everywhere. Had to wait a while to get spot. The gear they use down here are very different from what we usually use in sydney. 6m telescopic squid poles. I got my daiwa 2000 crossfire combo and my sienna 2500 combo. I also got my 2.0 squid jigs. Everyones using the 3.5 squid jigs. I was the odd one out. The guys on my left and right landed 2 squid in the 1st hour we were there. They were using the gancraft 3.5 jigs in red and black. Im using 2.0 yama in orange and pink. In the 2nd hour only see the other two guys landed 2 squids. Decided to pack up at 1230am. Got back home around 2am. Gonna go back there again tonight hoping to catch some squid for the nye bbq. Gonna put a report hopefully when we get back. Planning to stay until 6am tomorrow. High tide is at 528am. Thanks for reading. Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk
