  1. Hello fellow raiders, Was looking over my PFD this arvo and realized that it is way over due for a service by a long way. I did the first check myself last year but it's telling me now that I need to get it checked by a professional. I got a quick quote and it's nearly as much as buying a new one!! So does anyone know of any brands that will let you do the service yourself for more than the first year?? Cheers
  2. I have a 4.1m tinny as well with a 30hp merc 2 stroke which I've had for nearly three years....it's perfect when I'm by myself but wishing I ha gone with a 40. As soon as I have the funds im upgrading to a 40 either a etec or one of the new Suzuki 4 strokes not sure yet either!!
  3. Mate a very simple and easy to learn knot is the Albright knot. If tied properly i find it is very strong. It can be used for most line classes aswell.
  4. Cant stress enough how good CTek chargers are... If you don't have one get one!! Well worth the cash
  5. Hey Craig I haven't been down there for a whole but last time I was it was open to the ocean after some big tides.. But the nippers were few and far between as there had been a good dumping of rain and there was a big fresh in the lake. Try in front of the caravan parks close to the mouth would be the best bet I reckon
  6. +1 for the raider bream finesse. Great little rod. Have had mine for over two years now and it has caught endless flatties, bream and school Jew. It has been bashed around so much and has scratches all over it but still goes strong. I have it matched with a Stradic 2500 with 8lb sunline braid on one spool and 3lb fire line tournament exceed I the other. This covers most of my light fishing. Just to throw a spanner in the works. I also have a samaki sketch. 2-4kg 1 piece rod. $89. It is sensational for its price... I use this rod for chasing bass. On the weekend I flipped my canoe twice..... An both times the rod got dragged over the rocks an it is still in one piece.. When these two rods go, I will be replacing them with the exact same again!!
  7. I have the led lenser head lamp and I love it.. I use it for finding live bait at night and general fishing. I love the fact that it is fully adjustable between high and low beam and flood and spot light. For sunnies I use spotters exclusively for fishing and one day when I forgot them I bought a $90 pair of shimanos that I was quite surprised with. I use these sunnies as my day to day sunnies and haven't had a problem yet.
  8. Hey mate, Bad luck with the fishing.. But Dom the pics it looks like you had a really good time!! Quick question, what is the purpose of the leaves in the esky with the crabs??
  9. I would like an answer to this to. I leave fuel in the motor and the file line connected
  10. Mate I do it an haven't had any issues
  11. I'll definatly be chasing jewies...as I do every winter!!! I usually spend the day/arvo catching livies and the night in my boat waiting patiently with my flask full of hot soup or hot milo!!! I actually prefer the colder months... Less people and u can always put more clothes on to get warmer!!!
  12. Haha nice vent!! We all need to let off steam sometimes... I feel ur pain a bit as I have a zecton and I know how good they are!!
  13. Mate I have a Suzuki grand vitara in the diesel. It's great for towing and haven't had any probs at all with it. It pretty much runs on the smell of an oily rag and it only goes up slightly when towing. It's not the fastest vehicle around, which is good for me as it will keep my licence in check.
  14. Are you tying your line directly to the blade or are you using the small clip that comes with it?? Use the clip if you can as it will give the blade a better action and let you change the holes very quickly
  15. Fair enough I don't have to think of kids yet... Misses is hassling me though... I keep tellin her that we have kids... The two dogs and the boat... She doesn't see the funny side... Have you been out to fish rock at all?? It was firing when I was there about a month and a half ago.. Good luck hope the weather stays good for yas!!
  16. How big is ur boat? And what are the swell conditions at the moment? I only ask because the last lot of floods ( about two months ago) cleaned the bar out and it's fairly safe. I was crossing it in my 4.2m tinny no worries. Even when the swell was up a little it was still safe. I only launched at the gaol once as the wind had chopped up the bar a tad
  17. Hey Bruce, I was down that way about 5 weeks ago for a week. There had been a lot of rain earlier which made the River still muddy on the outgoing tides. I did see a few school jew caught off the south wall with livies. Outside was tough fishing but conditions in the mornings were perfect. I managed to catch a couple of just legal kings around Fish rock and hooked onto something I couldn't stop but that was about it. however i stopped in there only a week and a half ago on the way back through from Sydney to visit friends, and they showed me a pic of a 25 kg cobia they caught just off the gaol at the bomie there... I wasn't real happy when I saw that!!! Do an Internet search for weekly fishing report at southwest rocks and you will find a article updated every week. It's usually accurate and will give you a good indication of the condition of the river and how the outside fishing is. Good luck!! Hope you do better than I did!!
  18. yeah I have a good computer at home but use my phone for pretty much everything... Helps pass the time at work!! Plus I like being able to check for new posts every time I can!!! Little bit addicted to fishing.... The misses understands..... Sometimes!!!
  19. Whoohooo!!! Worked!! Thanks raiders!!! Deleting it and reinstalling it worked... So much better than the normal site.. Much easier to navigate etc
  20. Admin/moderators, I view this website from my iPhone using the tapatalk app and have been for the last 4 months... About a week ago tapatalk stopped working and won't let me log in. It gives me a message stating that the admin (for fish raider) has blocked me out or my username or password is wrong, which I know it isn't. Is there an issue with tapatalk at the moment and a post about it that I have missed??? It's frustrating as I use my phone for pretty much everything these days and I find using the regular site annoying now!! Eagerly awaiting your reply... Sam
  21. Good on ya mate!!! It's good to see the fish raider advice working for ya!! Nice feed of fish too
  22. Nice job mate!! Quick question is that marine grade ply or did you spray it with a water proofing agent?
  23. Mate it could be ur line but I doubt it if it's at night. Ur hook selection looks fine but it's a little hard to see what size they are. 1/0 2/0 etc. You can always use a smaller hook!! Dont forget that a small hook will catch big fish but it will increase your gut hook rate if they swallow it whole. Personally i pretty much use lures and plastics now except for big live bait. If I ever bait fish I go by the saying "bigger bait bigger fish" I strike all the time every time after a good bite except if im using circle hooks, they hook themselves... it might have been that there were just no decent fish about!!! Keep trying mate and don't be afraid to use really big baits, or go down in hook size to see what fish are about. You will soon find if there are big fish about or not. Happy fishing!!! Sam
  24. that was very interesting reading.... I love fishing for jewys and if increasing the legal length is what is needed for future sustainability then I'm all for it.... Maybe not to 110cm though.. That's a good sized big one!! I reckon of they do change the limits it will be closer to 75-80cm... Anyone keen to start a betting pool???!!!! Good odds...
  25. Mate I've seen an auto go off on the way back in on a rough day from outside ballina. It was actually quite funny as my mate didn't see it coming at all. The look on his face was priceless!! It was not that old either, about six months he said. I guess it had gotten damp one to many times
