    Gomoku rods

these rods are the best i have used for flicking sps. i picked up a red one a few weeks ago for my sedona 4000 and 20lb braid and ive hooked into nearly 10 species of fish in about 3 trips, inc kings, reds n dollies. although i got smoked on the king in 8m @ longy been using micro jigs and sps the parabolic action and the lightness of the rod is something to behold. the feel and control of the lure is incredible. its extreme fun i love it soo much im picking up a blue one to pair with a stradic5000 + 30lb braid and taking it deep blue for kings and pelagics these are rediculous
  2. Fellow fishermen friends Weather permitting looking to get out saturday, what is it like on australia day? anytips to avoid the plathora of googans? i'm thinking a 5am launch will be ok - its just the return is gonna be a headache..........or is it one of those days like boxing day, where the whole harbour is written off, and better to sleep in and go down to the local and sink a few ambers instead? Sunday and Monday look like deathwishes, and i am really keen to find some kings, before another working week
  3. i've had my boat license only a year, but have bred decorum in my DNA since i could speak its not hard to figure out how to work a boat ramp for optimum efficiency for everyone that wants to use it i have seen my fare share of ramp hoggers and boat sitters (these boat sitters, appear to spend hours sitting tied to the pontoons or wharf and do nothing at all, excpet taking up precious real estate for the people that wanna depart) As such i called an early and we launched at 5am, and beat the "googans" (weekend tom foolerys with no idea, taken from wicked tuna show) - and we did beat them, only just by one boat. Now starting to see an unavoidable trend - now starting to plan 11pm launches and 9am retreives - but now i see an issue with coming back at 9am after a long night, tired - there is no escaping these "googans" So now i am looking at 4am launches and 4pm retreives - fishing marathons - it really is the way its meant to be done
  4. i think the confusion reigns because there is not a blanket rule if you boat is x big, or if you have x people on board, or if you went out at x time or if you are x range from the shore its a mess and typical of australian regulations - blanket rule should suffice just wear them - get the inflatables - they are fine to wear (unless its 30+ degrees of course)
  5. just grab a huge tub of the most 30+ or 40+ or 50+ whatever they are up to now then wear good UV protective clothing just dont take bananas or bananaboat sunscreen - believe the banana myth if any
  6. as far as i know you only need to wear PFD's if You are solo, period stop right there, by yourself, get one on You are outside in open waters and your boat is less then 4.6m in length I'd challenge this fine or atleast get clarification I have a small 4.3m boat - i got a warning a few months back for being outside the heads without them on..........i now where a PFD and only yesterday had the police drive past, and ignore me outside the heads
  7. The Tiger series of Ugly Stiks uses a graphite core with an e-glass outer layer - which means it gets the sensitivity and lightness of graphite, but also shares the same strenght/knockabout resistence of a fibreglass rod...........its called the Howald process, and is a legacy of the ugly stik brand The rods are amazing - they feel great, and maintain alot of flex/sensivity without sacrificing power Edit - the only reason i knew about these things, is that i fought tooth and nail to find a 2 piece overhead rod in 25kg class - in australia they only stock LBG rods which fit 2 piece 25kgs, and normally around 8-10foot which is too tall - i wanted a general purpose rod, i can use for my boat and stones - and i found it, 7ft, 2 piece, 25kg overhead bliss
  8. Ugly Stiks from the USA They have the most diverse range of overhead rods - Any lengths, 1 or 2 piece and covering all classes from 4kg to 25kg Personally i have a Ugly Stik Tiger rod - 7ft, 2 piece, 5-25kg - its perfect - you can get them in the 10ft+ range too

    Trolling SP's

all these are good endeavours, and i will try them out the beauty of fishing is we can pioneer ourselves with different methods - just because it hasnt been done before, doesnt mean it doesnt work i've ordered a paravane, and will get some deep divers and remove the rear hooks for a trailing slug-go
  10. thanks - i will grab a bunch of the el cheapo JW jigs and test out the patenoster theory - not a fan of chucking out $40 worth of gear into the kelp mines

    Trolling SP's

YES thankyou, time to get creative with these things!!!
  12. Mac Attack is on the money if i was to buy a SP outfit tomorrow it would be a 2500 stradic or Abu Soron SX, on a jewell The jewells are great rods for the price 4000 size reels are getting a bit chunky for finesse SP fishing - The 2,500 will do everything you need, and could handle the odd king if the right line is on it If you get 2 spools, spool one for flattys and breams, and the other with heavier line in case jews, kings, or big flattys roam about You will have more fun on a smaller reel Its when u get spooled, thats when you go back and grab the 4000 - but not before
  13. Hi Friends Recently the trolling bug has caught us, with some good results aorund the traps for bonnies and sambos, all of them caught on the usual Rapala/Yo Zuri hard bodies divers But my imagination races when i see the action of these hard bodies, jiggle/bobble/twitch side to side along the side of the boat Imagine if a stick bait or SP could be trolled in the same manner, and twitched side to side - 5m deep 20m behind the boat We dont have a downrigger, so getting a SP down deep behind the boat is a tough ask Can you get jig heads or something similar that replicate the design of the rapala bibs, so they get get down low? Wanna get our SP's to deep dive, and i reckon all they need is a rapala nose on the jighead - Do they have such jig head, or is there any ideas people out there?
  14. Hi Friends on the weekend landed my first ever deep water squid - on a paternoster rig, just drifting around the heads, whilst the rod was in the holder and i was dropping plastics it was an epic specimen, hood coming in close to 40cm but i also lost 3 jigs - its a minefield out there, compared to the calm water wharfs of a night Is there a need for the expensive good jigs in the deeper water? i ask because i know in the shallows action and technique is paramount, so the jigs need to be good but in the deeper water, alot of the extra current would effect the action of the jig - this topped up with the minefield of snags from epic kelp to reef - i am led to believe perhaps the cheaper jigs will work just as good For sizes 3.5 and up - i am more than happy using the big 3 japan brands that never fail me - but the minefield out there means it could get nasty and expensive basically i am asking - is the quality of the jig, as important for the big sizes in deeper water? i know there probably isnt a right or wrong answer, as thats the legacy of squid, but would be good to hear some experiences cheers
  15. make no mistake the trick with salmon is to bleed them immediately and EAT them that day or night they are fantastic this way
  16. can u clean and wash down the boat @ rose bay? cleaning facilities?
  17. is there boat cleaning facilities at rose bay boat ramp?

    Egimax

i love the stuff i can say my pb's have been caught without egimax, however the amount of times i rock up to a metro wharf with 5 people squidding up donuts, and my egimax scented weapons hit the drink and voila, grab a quick double cutting everyones grass - is forever increasing IMO any given metro wharf approx 12hrs a day the water surrounded is littered with falling jigs - its up to your jig to have that 'edge' EVERYBODY uses Yamashitas or Yozuris - Part of me likes to think i have the better jigs, but 95% of the time, the only difference i see is that i have egimax!!! If you are lucky and have the whole spot to yourself - There is no competition, bag them all But seriously squidding is becoming very popular, and i seldom see a wharf without someone squidding - IMO there is ALWAYS squid lurking beneath - The secret is in the Egi mood, and the anglers tricks
  19. its due to finish in september i believe the ramp and pontoon look just about complete, but the new ferry wharf is still a while away not sure if they will open the ramp before the whole thing is done, so waiting on the new ferry wharf
  20. Well they profiteered when the dollar jumped from 80c to $1.10 - close to 30% hike in profits now that the dollar is on the slide again back under $1.00 - its going to eat away at their margins from 12months ago - but still well above their margins from 10 years ago. They are just being greedy, and have a good stranglehold on this market thru a good reputation in quality - people will still pay up for local warantee - especially if our dollar slides even furthur, which would make internet shopping less attractive.
  21. all the more reason to buy if offshore - they clearly dont think like consumers we can clearly shop the world now with a click of a mouse, the AUD value will always be the backbone of consumer choice - not the RRP locally
  22. Myself and some mates just got a boat, 2nd hand fibreglass classic 3 launches thus far - i cant stop smiling as i type this Launch 1. drove sydney to shoal bay - we left with the motor up, arrived with it down - forgot the anchor, maiden voyage delayed until 7am when tackle shop opens, we were emotionally shattered our egos took massive hits, but this was just the beginning. @ launch, dropped the screw for the d shackle of the safety chain into water (we'll deal with that later, we wanna go fishing in our new vessel)...........realised once fishing we left the charts in sydney, ran the gaunlet...............after 4 hours the back of the boat is taking in water - bungs were good - we turn around bolting home, thinking we are sinking - after maybe a few mins bailing and moving at a rate home, realised our livie bucket split and leaked out - phew, continued to bail and kept fishing - livies took a hit though - we overloaded the boat, as you do on maiden voyage - the place is a mess, looks like we smuggled a town in Launch 2 we left with the motor up, arrived with it down launch was alot better - but realised we lost the winch handle upon return.........dropped a mate off for the winch run, while we floated in hope we could get one Launch 3 was dominant, we left the motor down until backing it in - took the right amount of gear, launched brilliantly - left dry bag on land - had my wallet, ie fishing/boat licence, phone etc,, all the ncecessities...... we return we lose the winch pin and now it doest lock, had to use the close to impossible higher cog - got away with it, but need a pin, which we have sourced..........depart shoal bay, and our trailer brakes dont light up lol i swear the shoal bay boat ramp is difficult - i havent had much experience, but it gets tidal surges and waves making it hard to keep things under control - also has epic moss and weed build up We are stocking up on bungs, pins, d shackles, we finally figured out how to lock the motor in up position. There will be more trials and tribulations - as long as everyones back safe and enjoy a beer to share the laughs, its all part of the fun haha

    Winch issues

Hi All Not sure how to explain this but here goes our winch hex wont catch on the lowest gear as the previous pin slipped thru and into the water so now when winching the hex nut just slips and rolls around - thus the winch doesnt get pulled this is the lower gear cog - the main one for getting a boat onto a trailer - using the high speed cog is an absolute pain in the ass, nearly impossible unless its already on the trailer proper and on the rollers we can use a steel nail as a pin in the interim, but wanna get the proper parts eventually Where can we source such rare parts and what are they called? Bias mentioned shear pins or roll pin, but they didnt stock any any help would be great - cheers
  25. is it ok to have your boat like that on the sand? reason i ask i recently got a fibreglass hull patched up cause previous owner cracked the hull trying to transfer onto a new trailer and used his backyard - hence the hull cracked $500 and all patched up and the boat is firing - and now mine but now i am paranoid maximus, if anything comes near the hull i lose my sh*t, and take measures to keep it free from structure and knocks i would love to just pull up at a beach like that and relax - but i am scared, so i anchor up in 2m of water and get soaked instead
