  2. cheers slinky - i checked link - that is great will use that guide tonight - and will just focus on the gears and bearings so my shopping list for this arvo is Small screwdriver set White Spirit Marine Grease Brush i used to do this as a kid - its slowly coming back to me, and now will be of massive benefit going forward pehaps the rogue wave is a blessing in disguise!!!
  3. hi slinky do i just use a warmy soapy solution with a toothbrush, then regrease? will any old grease work? or is there specific fishing grease? sorry for the questions, its just i cant get to a tackle store today, so hoping the hardware store can supply
  4. thx alot slinky i'm getting a small scewdriver set on the way home!!!
  5. righto raiders - yesterday was a close call - and may need to take action Was fishing the harbour rocks yesterday, had my rod n reel in a rock made rod hole - sitting nicely - Penn Spinfisher 850SS As i was re-rigging, i had my rod n reel lying down on the rocks......then a rogue wave came up the rocks, and swept thru - covered the bottom half of the reel, before my reflexes hoisted it up into the air it wasnt a massive body of water, but it wasnt a slight splash either - its technically not a dunk, but one could argue, the same damage can be forthcoming is this a dunk - does this require emergancy action immediately i sacrificed my water supply, and covered it in fresh water squirting my drink bottle all over it I know these Penns are built to withstand tough conditions - but where do you draw a line in the sand? Right now it feels no different - i;ve only used it 4 times, purchased in april this year I've also heard they are easy to clean etc - where do i look for evidence of such an attack from the posiedon and his aqua demons?
  6. mate i've got the shimano mexican fire raider 762 snapper rod with a 4000 Sedona with 20lb fireline its probably a little too weak for what your looking for - a big king would probably have me but its casts 6" and 9" sluggos and gulps forever you will have fun with the T-curve and any good size Stradic
  7. yes but only once couple of my mates fished it growing up it does produce the best thing about bondi is the crowds - sounds like an oxymoron - but there are soo many people down there, and NOBODY FISHES alot of fishos put a big red line thru bondi - citing crowds head down there at night, and have the beach to yourself - during the day not many fish are pulled in lol - especially in summer its also very protected from swells, as bondi actually faces south, so any swells coming from the east or north are cut-off by the northern headland anywhere along the northern rock ledge is generally flat
  8. thats pretty good relapse i took your advice, and got a batch sent from japan - mainly in pinks and oranges also got a yamashita eging stocker for storage, some jig clips for easy swapping and some squid jig spikes - i cant tell you how many times i pull in my live yakka, after its had the life sucked outta him by a big roaming inker look forward to trying these out when the weather turns around
  9. i've been looking at cases too, because mine are all individualised in their respective boxes/homes from the shop, and my tacklebag is becoming a bag of squid boxes seems most of whats availabe are pouches - will keep it simple, and check out the cheapo options from kokoda/jervis walker etc
  10. i'm just going to my yakka haunts tonight and will chuck a few out live just got my new live bait bucket with aerator combo - cheapo from surecatch - going to test it out hopefully all will be good for a 4am start tomoz around rose bay or not on this site
  11. there is a few around, which i have checked out will go for the cheapo surecatch option first.............see how it goes, before putting in some hard earned for an expensive one i mean, if the $15 jobs do the trick for a year, i'll just get one everyear - gotto be careful with these things, when u have beers and saltwater about
  12. Hi Raiders Recently saw some airators for sale, and wondering if they are any good and worth the investment My yakkas die or get very sick in my bucket after approx 1-2hrs - I usually swap the water in the bucket within the hour, to prolong their health, but generally at the end of the sesh, they are all pretty much kaput.........to which i take them home and freeze for the next day fishing For the landbased fisho - How much longer does the airator prolong the life of the yakkas? - If we are talking somehwere in the field of 24hrs, thus keeping them alive for 2 fishing sessions, then i may just have to partake in a purchase. Also any tips on brands, or methods used and do they work with squid and other baits? cheers Kulch
  13. hi raiders when going for jews, are you supposed to use a float or have it resting on the bottom? i've got access to yakkas, and had a few runs on my lines last 2 weekends, but couldnt hook anything then on sunday i actually hooked onto something massive which devoured my whole yakka, took about 100m of line out, before i tightened the drag, which woke him up, and went crazy before he took my hook and sinker i think it was a jew or a shark, but of course, i'll never know until we meet again!!!!
  14. hi craig Between Tama and Bronte is pretty good, but also busy at times............Malabar is the spot - yet very dangerous, compared to bondi, bondi is for me one of the calmest beaches on the east coast of australia...the north bondi rocks sometimes looks like a lake, and south bondi can be cranking with surf - this is due to the beach actually facing south, and any easterly swells are cut off by the northern headland I'm not too familiar with the beach fishing aorund bondi - its too packed....but i presume the usual, salmon, flathead, whiting, tailor will be caught The other day i was thinking of heading down to north bondi and have a cast...........there is a nice ledge off the north rocks, and you should get some schooling sambos and tailor and the odd whiting or flatty lurking the deeps I usually fish the harbour between rose bay and south head, dont have to worry about swell, and i know the kings are in the harbour.......i am trying to get my first king, and i will not fish anywhere else unless i leave sydney Looks like you will have the wind behind you this arvo - if i was going, i'd try north bondi headland - once past the kiddy pool throw some lines out, and work your way up to the point..........i know around the corner of the point u can get down there and get epic fishing behind the golf course if conditions can suit In this order i'd try, North Bondi - South Bondi (boot, behind the ice bergs) - North Mackenzis - South Tama I have lived in bondi for a life........have NEVER fished it - That will change this summer
  15. yes, i'll most likely be out friday night into dawn i had 4-5 yakkas get raped last weekend - they werent even alive - i've got hunt down whats smashing them not sure what i am chasing - anything for dinner wont have any issues getting yakkas, we got about 15 last weekend in a short time at our haunt chucked them out live, one got hammered - chucked them out next day dead, they got hammered so this weekend will add another hook to my rig - one in the tail, one in the head, cause whatever is smashing it, seems to avoid the singular hook whilst getting yakkas will try for some squid - i got 1 squid last weekend, good size and it got hammered in 20mins out in the deeper parts, whist i kept looking for bait. my methods are yet to be proven sydney landbased - but this is my backyard, and i shall conquer it - i've just gotto be there at the right time with the right bait - keep plugging away, keep getting more fresh livies, keep chucking them out - rinse and repeat - my friends think i am mad, but i know there is fish to be caught, and you wont catch anything from the couch
  16. cant wait to hear the report kingspooled the weather is soo epic i'm having a landbased bender this weekend, starting tonight!

    Landbase Rod

Hi Raiders! Am curretly looking for a good budget landbase rod to pair up with my new 850 spinfsher dressed with 600m of 30lb braid I have a 6ft Crstal Blue Silstar 10-15kg for boat sessions - but i havent been out in a boat yet the weather has been against us and now i have had the penn for 3weeks without getting wet. Will try some landbase sessions around the harbour this weekend, and would like more than 6ft from the dirt. My budget would be approx $150, preferably 2 piece, for travel purposes any suggestions

  24. i say we look at a sports fishing charter and go for kings on the outta reefs i'm not sure we can do a hybrid kingfish-tuna session, considering the gear involved, the locations and different techniques most packages cater for one or the other, and the number of peeps on the boat also I am all in for anything
  25. Well the charter i was going to book replied to my query and said the following........may have to try something else"While we are still getting the occasional king its getting a bit hit and miss and I would recommend waiting until at least mid oct. Give us a bell some time in Sept and we will get you booked in."
