  1. my best is approx 50-70m - far enough that seeing it splash is an effort just tie a snapper sinker onto your line - hoist it far as you can - you can really get some yardage when not concerned with bait failling off then grab a snap swivel with the clips and cradle ur livie down your main line (like a lfying fox) your livie then has the total distance us casted to swim up and down - the snapper sinker is essentially acting as an anchor - and as you didnt cast your livie he is happy and full or energy - u just gotto egg him on down the anchor line - but thats part of the fun
  2. cant believe how good the Shimano Baitrunner 6000D is the smoothest of my reels by a long shot - when i release the anti reverse and rig up a rod - i have to be careful not to pull too much line or the reel just spins backwards perpetuatly, releasing too much line and then i have a tangle fest - its a hassle i have the pleasure of harnessing - its that smooth sometime the weight of the ball handle makes the handle sharft do that extra spin because gravity says the ball is heavier and cant be in a higher position - lol

    Sydney Squid

over the years i have learnt u cant just go fishing. u gotto plan it out, and put in some hours to get a wharf/pier i now take the following approaches a. 9pm till 9am - garuanteed to get a spot during the 12 hrs - write off following day to sleep b. 4am till 2pm - be prepared to arrive at a crowded spot with fisho that have taken option (a) above i stay away from wharves after sunrise and hit the stones with live/fresh bait caught from wharf/pier
  5. What about the Thunnus 12000 My mate got one and its epic, its a baitrunner of the T1000 variety......better than a genie bottle you just rub the bail, and a fish strikes
  6. IMO the full moon brings higher activity its starts with larger tides, which brings water to parts not wet since last month. things are going frenzy around the fringes that dont normally get wet sometimes u catch nothing - sometimes u catch something but everytime without fail - i see alot more acitivity with regards to bait, and the bottom of the chain i grew up on a lagoon that u could play cricket on - but when full moon came - out came the kayaks and tackle - i guess it really depends on the environment you fish in

    Bondi

u need to try summers which is the surf break between tama and bronte - its always provides - its a massive deep gutter - the tama express - high tides going out, dont go in passed ur knees or you going too that being said, all you need is a metal slice and that 1 salmon would have turned into 5 - doesnt matte where PM me next time you go - i live up the road, and i havent fished bondi - i usually hit the harbour been meaning to hit bondi of a night - i reckon it provides plenty - nobody fishes the gutters ever during the day But Tama and Bronte at night are better - i havent done this, but i know and seen plenty getting pulled in - tailor, salmon and even jewfish LBG King - You need to hit Malabar, going around to Botany - The Golf Course Peninsula i call it - The water off Malabar is very deep, where as Bondi, Tama and Bronte dont really provide a ledge to great depths within casting range. Provided i dont win on the cup, i'll be getting some squid in rose bay tonight
  8. yeah i know what you mean - i put my hand up - i am first to the google after pay day for more weapons, and it was my b'day so i though bugger it - lets splash on an EGI wand. that cliche is cheeky too, the customer is always right i guess thats what makes the fishing so challenging - if there was a right answer to everything, we'd all have the same gear. cheers for feedback fellas
  9. scored 7 last week in 3 trips - 2 of them are massive over 30cm hoods they are about one minute than gone for the next 6 hours i fished a total of 30 hrs, and i reckon maybe 6 of those 30 hours had me interested all of them at a peak of a tide and very still conditions - wind non existant
  10. this is the Sephia BB - Not the Sephia AU (the Aus version australians are used to) I have heard from various users the difference between BB and AU is lite n day, with the BB a proper Jap Egi stick also heard the Sephia AU is a catana blank - whih would explain the gimmick sentiments around here i read Shimano australia, discontinued the BB, release the AU for $160 as a catana blank, thus ripping hole in australians pockets - its the australian way for a long time now (ripping their own people off) Then there is the Sephia Ci4 - the pinnacle of the Sephia line up However relapse i have taken your solid advice before - if you have played with a BB and still didnt like hem - i will take a look at other Egi rods - the Naory Wand looks amazing but thats $300+
  11. i'm going to get the Sephia BB Egi rod i lost 2 squid on the weekend - it came down to the rod, not my action, dam 2kg flicker isnt soft enough - i was watching them with my own eyes i guess if the squid are in a hammering mood you could use any rod, but if they are picky and very gentle - the egi rod will provide an edge and dont believe that egi rods are a gimmick - they would have said the same things about fishfinders and braid and now egi rods everything is a gimmick at first, then its imitated
  12. also i think its going to be a bumper summer i saw alot of teeming aquatic life on the weekend - bait size and predating size - in the harbour - its hard to fathom, but the harbour is like a fine wine - just keeps on gettin better (last 15 years anyway) i have to pinch myself to realise how clean the harbour is and how many people live and pollute in it to see pelagics busting up in a metropolis harbour that approx 4.5m people reside on - is quiet an unbelevable achievement The fishing may be better in NZ, but they have the same amount of people as Sydney. We do pretty good. I mean heck it not as if we dont use it - the harbour is packed daily - its one of the busiest waterways on the planet - people that complain shoulds go holidays in HongKong or NY and see how it should NOT be done. I'd love to go to Auckland and just gauge at the contrast of human activity - thus aquatic activity - v sydney - for the natural environment/eco system is all the same - i'd like to see if my 6 hour donut sessions in sydney can be convrted into 6 hour weekly feeds in auckland
  13. your doing everything right - i have been doing the same - with minimal luck but it can turn at any time - i find u gotto split your night n days Stretch your sessions thru to 10am into the day - that way you get a crack at the pelagics if the jews dont come to play of a night i fished 2am till 2pm friday into saturday, 12 hour bender - i had a 1 hour window at 8am when it all went hectic and i got 2 epic egi and a trev in 10 mins 2 nights before i fished 3am till 11am - all the action was before light at 5am (but this is squid they are never consistent) your kinda harnessing your potential with the times your going - a larger range of fish will bite in sunlight - but targeting jews is like test cricket - patience
  14. i am sure this has been asked before Can an Egi rod double up as a light spin rod, as well as, a ligh spin rod can double as an egi stick? i ask because i am in this predicament i currently have a 1-4kg light spin stick catana (cheapo) which i have used to catch many flatty over the years and lately all i am doing is going for sydney squid with it - generally catching a few squid each session i just got a new Abu Garcia Orra SX Spin reel - these just came out - i am very happy with it - it needs a partner in crime 1. Do i get a specific Jap egi stick - looking to import a sephia BB or Yamashita Feeling shaft - these fetch for $200+ 2. Do i get a light estury weapon like the Pflueger Patriarch - also above $200, but i hear these lay golden eggs - cant find a word wrong about them - but can they out egi the sephia or neory bloody squid - they make me ask myself sooo many questions and go thru tackle like dirty socks - i just cant close them Dam egi sticks - not sure if they really make that much of a difference, but if they can catch a flatty or 2 off the flats if i dont take my catana i am all for them
  15. which tacklestore is giving you this diawa rep ring around? Manufactuers and Consumers should NEVER affiliate - Its why we have a retail system Meanwhile the grub thats calling in the Diawa rep - has already been to the bank with your cash, and probably ordered more stock from diawa..
  16. yeah was another great day out on reef magic Unlucky chasing tuna, but some makos came lurking, and we had a ball with them................some of the boys had tangled with makos yrs ago, so it was a trip down memory lane for the experience of a lifetime. Look forward for another sesh Hey Damo can you please check if i left my square clear case plano tackle box on board - its got blue clips........amongs all the beers and excitement, i've got no idea where it is cheers
  17. cheers for the replies guys just saved me some cash to get some jigs, gloves, proper fishing sunnies and rod belt i've been fishing for flathead my whole life and this bluewater stuff is incredible - got my first king 2 weeks ago i've just started viewing some LBG youtubes......dear lord - just when you think you got most of it covered - the fishing gods teach you otherwise cant wait to use this Siltstar, it hasnt gotten wet yet
  18. hi all I currrently have a Silstar Chrystal blue 6foot 15kg boat rod - can this be used to jig around 12mile, and the deep blue I am looking at getting a jigging rod around the 24kg mark, but as my access to such fishing locations is limited, i am wondering if its worth a new rod or just using the 15kg boat rod I have my eyes on the el cheapos Platinum Ugly Stick Jig 15-37kgs or the Okuma Salina 24kg What are the major differences in jigging rods and heavy boat rods of the same length? I am all for expanding my versaility for fishing applications, but i also have alot of rods - too many really The reel i have chosen for such epicness is my robust Penn850 - i gave it a service last week, and its by far the greatest reel i have ever pulled apart....it will outlive me, make no mistake whatta you raiders reckon - stick with the 15kg silstar or go and grab a jig stick
  19. So i've done it - a service I stripped the penn - it 100% had corrosion seeping into the main bearing under the spool - its an epic discovery, like finding a tumour in a haystack - i found rust and all this gunk which was 100% purely from the rogue wave............cleaned it in 'white spirit' .............removed all the corrosion - dry and regrease and guess what - the penn feel better than it did brand new.........................its not even making the squeeky noise from the rubbing metals. Tonigh the Sedona get serviced as that also got hammered by the water...............
  20. i have taken a crash course in reel maintenance 101, because my penn got blanketed by a rogue wave 2 weeks ago, and it needed to be stripped and cleaned So did some training runs on my smaller reels - giving them a good clean, and greasing - they all feel like new - if a little on the heavy side, as i am using grease in the bearings instead of oil - but this can be fixed easily. So cleaning and servicing my shimano sienna 2500..........i put it back together and it feels, stiff, and its clunking and its clinking - just like my shimano baitrunner!!!!!!!! i had a brain explosion - one of those light bulb moments - if i can determine where i went wrong here with the sienna - i could fix the baitrunner 6000D you wouldnt believe it - appears the main gear is not alligned correctly, mainly due to overgreasing - i removed some of the overload and then the sienna spun like new so i went back to the baitrunner, and ripped it open and removed a chunck of grease, which was influencing the action of the gear PROBLEM SOLVED - THE REEL NOW FEELS LIKE A BRAND NEW SHIMANO - The thing rotates forever and a day
  21. i found the issue the oscillating gear was loose, thus the main shaft was not being grabbed once i fixed this - man these baitrunners are a pain inside - it was a lot smoother but it now clunks, and makes a noise when spinning its going back but i can tell a working one would feel, look and sound like heaven - so im still getting one
  22. ive just noticed the spool doesnt go up and down when spinning
  23. hi all ordered a baitrunner 6000D from usa, it arrived today - pulled out of box and its quiet stiff to spin, give a few rotations, let go, and it stops before it does a full rotation by itself do they need to be worn in? i've never had this before most spinning reels ooze perpetual rotations when new
  24. well some good news i found some quantum hot sauce, which i have on me, and sourced some yahama multi purpose marine which is due friday i cant believe i got my old reel (which is had when i was 14) working again - i got underneath last night and secured a loose part and now its working again!!! - i just gotto do the cleaning out business, and i have some other reels i have lurking worth attending - try and get my whole fleet back in tip top order - the penn is the ultimate project thanks for all your help slinky
