  7. they go alright when using the right gear, good fish.
  8. im not a big fan of commercial fishers, but you have to remember it wasnt them that decimated fish stocks, they playd a part in it, more so it was the introduction of the deep freeze, freezers are fishes worst enemy. since the stop of commercial fishing in the basin 5 or more yrs ago it has turned into an amazing little fishery, in saying that rec fishers are keeping bag limit catches of fish because they can, what we dont eat now we'll leave in the freezer for later, most cases later never comes.im all for a buy out scheme but think just because fish are their doesnt mean we have to rape and pillage a school of fish when their on the bite, because the thought pattern is next time i come out it may not be like this so i better take as much as i can now!!!! what im getting at is just because we can take, dosnt mean we should. we have to wise up.
  9. mate prob was a sand ell, when the warm currents hit, the block is a good place to fish, kings, tuna, marlin, sharks. did u see any bait out there?
  10. if i was in your shoes id be like a little kid on his first big fishin expedition, the antisipation of what lies ahead for the next month, i wouldnt be able to sleep, enjoy your time up there.
  11. that would have been unreal watching that, jew?? ive watch seals get into the kings down jb but never thought they'd ball up jew, amazing.
  12. im all for supporting your local tackle shop but when your in need of a particula peice of fishing equipment its had to not buy on-line (mo tackle)(tackle junkie) or the likes to obtain the goods.
  13. nice way to spend the day walkin the coxs, plenty of klm's covered scouring different pools, great exercise.makes it even more rewarding when you finally hook up, thats a really good day you blokes had, a lot of fish came from lake lyell, a lot of the bigger fish i think are ex dam fish.
  14. i had the same thing happen to me trolling the 18s at the goldcoast, a small black and SL12s dont match.
  15. g'day martin i also had a fish their yesterday about 7pm, casting lures no joy. been very tough trying to crack one on plastics, caught one on bait about 4kgs just a pup, livies are the key. i had no luck trying for yakkas off the end of the wall, have to stick with mullet. might see you on there one arvo.
  16. lyell bass are on steroids they pull like freight trains, no wonder when you look at them their like soccer balls almost as high as they are long. good going lyell is a dam of many casts, arn't they all? plenty of food in there at the moment with the water levels topp'n 90+ the gudgeons have exploded, main food source for all fish in lyell match the hatch. illegal to catch and use as bait, fisheries are up their all the time checking shore and boat based anglers. top effort fishermandan123.
  17. nicely done, im lucky too get away once or twice a year, thats a dream year for me! you couldnt ask for much more than that. good work
  18. you will come across surface activity but it will be alot of casting, you would be better off using chubbies pref deep diver, double clutches, anything that gets down 1.5m+, and of coarse go for the shade watch the wind see which way its blowing the insects across the surface. hope this helps
  19. bennyk your smile says it all! how good is that.
  20. how u going mate, i use an albright from double to leader have no probs, if your using a cheaper braid it tends to have a thicker diameter than say sunline castaway, which is what i use. google up catspaw or slim beauty, two join knots you can use for light braid if your using heavy braid ie 50lb+ look at the fg knot, a strong knot takes a bit of getting used too. hope this helps.
  21. got him, by the look of him a little rainbow. very structure orientated they are? flows and deviations of current, not too long before you work out a pattern.
  22. good work cobba, thats a jackasaurus mate, every jack fights different i think, some you dont get haif a second on and others do the right thing. nice one.
  23. good fish mate , i usually find the spare of the moment trips are the best ones for me. well done!
