  1. G'day Charlie Have a look along the northern moorings at Cottage Point. Use tough, small, long shank hooks.Take spare hooks. Try use squid ( small slivers ) if you can. Have some pliers handy and watch out for the spike on their back - especially if youre taking the kids. I was'nt on the drift. good luck
  2. G'day Raiders Managed to get in a few hours on the Hawkesbury this morning. Was hoping to get some squid for the weekend for the big you know whats. Sent down a livie rig and had a few good tugs. Pulled up and hooks were goooone... Hmmm change to JACKET rig. bang bang bang - Jacket after jacket. Some were kept for a feed and the others went free. Also got a good flounder/sole. Jacket, sole and salad for dinner toonight. Not what I intended but a very nice few hours on the water. PS. On the way back came across a couple who had blown an old merc 150 and gave them a tow home. Bit of a bugger when you take your lady out for the day and the old donk packs up! Hoping to finally get in a good shot at the big jew tomorrow afternoon. Will let you know how it goes.
  3. Thanks for the info Wayneo really appreciated. I use the shimano speedmaster iv and 30 kg mono. Will need bigger hooks but, only got up to 8/0s. I hope to be going out once or twice this week so will let you know how it goes.
  4. Hey Wayneo You're an inspiration mate! Well done on yet another huge jewie. It seems to me by reading through your report that time on the water seems to be the main ingredient of your success. Do you mind me asking a few questions? What rod, line and reel you are using. Is the night better than day? Seems the big moon didn't worry you this weekend! I can only get out early mornngs till about 13h00 do the big jews take at this time of the day? Are you using big gear for big fish? Once again great fish mate
  5. Hey Haraka Thanks for the advise. Really tried hard yesterday and thought that we would get something for sure. Had a good fisho with me so no excuses. At one point on the troll with the livies we were letting the wind blow us along - nice and slow. On the way back we pulled a set of rappies in close and nothing as well. Didn't manage to get over to south palm, wanted to work the joey as well as we could. Had to be back by 12h30. Do you think the moon has anything to do with the bite in the last few days? No decent reports from the raiders in the hawkesbury so far this weekend. Lion Is - sounds like a good idea for next time. The day, as in weather and sea conditions, was tops couldn't have asked for better at this time of the year. Getting ready for the next trip
  6. Early start. Out to livie station and got a good few livies - all sizes. Began slow troll around Joey. Water looked fantastic, slight breeze and a calm sea. Two great baits out just waiting to be smashed....around and around, nothing. Put down the pick changed livies, waited and waited ...nothing. Burly trail attracted some rat kings and odd tailor. Still nothing. Put some decent pillies down on other rods...nothing. Moved a few times and still nothing! Pulled the pick and a slow troll back with fresh livies...nothing. Time to head home. Result yes you guessed it. Ah well try again another day!
  7. siyabonga Haraka My application to go and hunt the silver ones has been approved and hence a mad scramble to get the boat loaded and ready. Got the gay sqid jigs, (all sizes) and some spikes, straight hooks and a 4 stroke! Look forward to seeing the sun rise over the Lion Head.
  8. Haraka Joh! I see you know it Ok squid will be donated to the livies - will target the yakkas . What size do the kings like? Been gettin a few horses lately. Any special colour of squid jigs at the moment? Love the idea of a slow troll. Bridal rig or through the body? Will checkout eastcoasting's posts Will let you know how it works out Thanks for those tips mate
  9. Haraka - I see you too Thanks for the info. Hope to spend a while getting some good livies and then go out the front. I have some nice frozen squid will give them a go as well. Any advice on the Kingey rig? See one of the raiders lost a big one on a baloon rig recently.
  10. May have a chance to get out in the Hawkwsbury this weekend. Looking for some of the bigger Kings or some reasonable size Jewies. Any suggestions from the experts?
