  1. Yesterday I went out to try and get some Hairtail. Got out early and went to the hairy area. Fresh bag of pillies and a few old ones just in case. 3 Rods rigged and ready for action. The weather was cold and cloudy and a bit of rain from time to time. The rain gave the boat a good wash...even had to use the bilge pump to get rid of some of the water. I fished long and hard all day and zip. Not a tuch on the hairy gear. Got a few yakka and odd bream etc. Came home and on the way filled up with petrol got one of those coles 20c off a litre dockets and I put in 150l into the car and the boat and guess what you need to take a 4c docket as well - didn't have one and had to pay full Friday price for Optimax!!!.....kind of sums up my day yesterday... Begged the wife to go again this morning she said yes and be home by 12 midday. So gone like a rocket at 5 this morning. Same place, same time, same rods, same tackle, same bait and first cast - Hairy! second cast Hairy - how does that work!!! Could not belive my luck. Went quiet had some coffee and thought I might try my luck for the big jew. Stuck out some butterfiled yakkas and sat back and watched. I can sit there all day just watching landscape the birds and the boats. Anyway nothing doing on the jewie front (as usual) so had another go at the Hairies ...bang in again! no 3 ...ah well have another go ... bang no 4. By eight thirty had the esky half full of hairies. Four is plenty for a great feed. So pulled the pick and headed home nice and early. One day nothing, the next... jackpot - what a difference a day makes cheers inhlanzi

  7. G'day Raiders Got out at a decent hour this morning. Headache after watching the Rugby!!! I was joined by a mate who wanted to try and catch his first Hairy. Came around the corner at Fishermans beach and encountered this amazing ship. Does anybody know what and or who she is? What a start to the day. Went down to the Hairy area and set out the pillies. The water was very dirty and a lot of debris in the water. Dodge the seaweed and the bits of trees and plastic bags... All was a bit slow and my mate started to ask if we were using the right tackle and in the right place etc etc Just then just as if ordered - "I think I've got something...I think I've got something" I could see right away it was a Hairy and after a short interesting fight the silver ribbon shape emerged from the deep. I got the lip grip into its mouth and my mate was very stoked and posed proudly with his first Hairtail. It is very rewarding to set out to catch a species and then get it but even more so when it is a cherry buster. Needless to say we had a cold one to celebrate. On a drift in Jerusalem Bay I hooked something very solid - bugger stuck on the bottom - but it began to move!! Definately not a fish but it came up very very slowly...suddenly a cage emerged...somebodys old crab / fish trap covered in mud and slugs and things. Gave it a bit of a rinse and looks like it will be good to use again. No more haireis for the day but did manage to get a nice squid for dinner. Saw a boat at Appletree come in with a good catch of medium sambos. Another great day on the water cheers inhlanzi

  16. G'day the bushboy bass hunter Here is what I would suggest. 1. Read and study Ken's article on them. I follow his advice almost to the letter. 2. Make sure you spend time on the water. I like to stay in one spot for at least a few hours. I have been lucky enough to get about 20 of them in the last few weeks. They are there. I have caught mine whilst trying to catch big Jewies. Good luck Cheers inhlanzi

  21. Apologies to robbo75 and all aboard. I was not driving the boat at the time and was trying to fix one of the lights. The fisho who was driving is a very experienced skipper and I presumed he had seen you blokes and would give you a wide birth. Obviously not! All I can do is apologise to robbo 75 and his crew. I hope we didn't stuff up your day.
  22. G'day Raiders Had an early start this morning. Mist wast very thick all the way from Appletree to Jerusalem Bay - non stop. Managed to get the tide and got two small hairies. 120cm jobs. There are lots of Raiders on the water and more arrived at 12h30. Popped in at the mothership and had a very welcome cold beer in the midday sun. Got to meet a couple more raiders which was good. There was almost no wind this morning. I think tonight things will go off with the big tide happening. I got these fish on the drift this mornig and once again they hit like trains. Pillies and gangs as usual. Will be out again early tomorrow. Cheers inhlanzi
  23. Yup there were already some bundies going down earlier this evening!!!!
  24. Hey Arron Launched from there this afternoon and came in after dark. I saw no signs anywhere to say anything about it being closed. I am going again in the morning. Cheers inhlanzi
  25. G'day Raiders Got out at lunchtime today and headed down the Hawkesbury. Not much happened for quie a while then it started to get dark. Bang, bang and Bang! Got three hairies in about 10 mins. Yahooo. Gees they don't muck about when they decide to have a go. I was well organised with extra taces today and was able to have two rods out all the time. I found the mothership on the way back to Appletree and got the fish measured and a few photos taken. Big one went 145cm and the others in the 120s. It was good to meet a few of the "names" from the forum onboard the houseboat. I had to get home before 8 so could not stay to long. Will hope to be out again tomorrow. The weather is not too bad. Very little wind and only light rain. Don't have to wash down the boat!!! Fish are alredy gutted and cooling in the freezer. Picture of the fish thanks to Mrs Swordfisherman The business end of the chrome worriors Hope to get to meet some of you raiders tomorrow and Sunday Good luck and have good weekend Cheers inhlanzi
