  1. Double Uni for me I add a bit of olive oil or tuna oil to make the knot pullup nicely. If using heavier stuff I give the ends / tags a burn with a cigarette lighter and flatten the "tops". Insurance against knot slipping. Just make sure you don't burn the main line! cheers inhlanzi
  2. Another great report Mako I learned something new - again! cheers inhlanzi
  3. Appreciate the replies gents. I will let yo know how I go. Thanks inhlanzi
  4. Fantastic thread guys. Here is another tip that works for me. I purchased a large black tub ( +- 1 m x 75cm x 65cm ) from Bunnings and when I flush my motor I just get the tub and place it under the leg of the motor whereever I am washing down the boat ie driveway or lawn or street. I run the motor on the muffs till the water level is over the water pick up. I remove the muffs and continue to run foor a while. Its great in winter as the water warms up! Hardly a drop of water is wasted. There is often at least a teaspoon full of sand and bits and debris left in the tub. Just shows you what gets inside the motor. By the time I have completed the engine flush I have removed all the gear from the boat and am ready with a brush and sponge to soap the boat. I then use buckets and sponges to rinse down the boat. All excess water is collected goes onto the garden. Then use the tub to store all the cleaning gear for next time. I have the yammie with the silent flush as well. This can be a great help sometimes when you come home really late and you don't want to wake the family or neighbours. Also if you go to a mates for a barbie after fising and then just hook up for a few minutes and give the block a good flush. Hope this helps cheers inhlanzi
  5. Very nice fin there Netic Well done Cheers inhlanzi
  6. G'day Raiders I have my boat in for winter service and I would like to get all the rusted U-Bolts on my trailer replaced. I have been to a few places and have discovered I have an odd size trailer frame. 77mm x 77 mm I am looking for 80mm (inside measurement) X 150mm height 50mm (inside measurement) X 140mm height 45mm (inside measurement) X 75mm height Any help would be appreciated cheers inhlanzi
  7. I knew you would come to the rescue there Flattieman! I was wondering if maybe they hung vertically in the water at some point kind of similar to what the hairies do when hunting. I guess we will never know till one of those deep diver subs gets down there and does a bit of study on them. cheers inhlanzi
  8. What a great story guys. Not a day you will forget in a hurry. Well done to you all. That's what fishing is all about... cheers inhlanzi
  9. Have you ever dropped the reel or has it had a big knock of any kind? How long ago did you buy it? Maybe a chance of a warranty claim? Cheers inhlanzi
  10. Hey Mako Really facinating report and pics. Very nice bottom rig you got there. Is there a knot between the clip and the twisted dropper or is it just on the loop? Wow. Can clearly see it's not a hairtail. Have you ever used the Ribbon fish as a skip bait for Marlin? You gonna laugh but I use a very similar rig for livies on a much much smaller scale in 6lb vanish. No shrink or clip but I add a small glow bead instead. Check out the lateral lines in the gemfish Gemfish? Maybe Flattieman can tell us why they are like they are... And well done on your first "gasbottle" Cheers inhlanzi
  11. Well done Mako Great catch and a good story. Are those Ribbon fish Hairtail? If you don't mind me asking at what depth did you get them? Cheers inhlanzi

  13. Some thoughts and some observations on the small area I fish in... I have been out fishing in the magnificent Hawkesbury 4 times in the last week. What I have seen going on in the bay ie between the mouth of the Cowan and Lion Island has really got me wondering about the future of the Hawkesbury. Sitting there before dawn at one of the better known holes a smallish tinnie with no lights and a cover over the motor comes past. As dawn breaks I saw the three occupants pulling in a large set net placed within a few meters of the side. There was no identifiable number on the boat. (been scratched off by the nets) There were a lot of fish in the net and not that big either. One or two were tossed back and the rest went with the occupants back to whereever they came from. I have seen this particular boat every time I have been out in the last week. Are these professional fishermen? Are they allowed to do what they are doing? If they are then WHY do we bother with rules and regultions for rec fishers? They would be taking plenty more fish than any rec fisho would ever take. I know that being a pro fisherman is a difficult occupation and I have a lot of respect for what they do, how they do it and the hours hey put in and hey get ripped off when they sell their catch. My question is - Is what they are doing sustainable? Surely if the fish are gone they will be the first to suffer. Is there a limit on what they can catch and if so who checks up on them? Then there are the trawlers - All day and all night - up and down up and down. There was not one minute in four days/nights when you could'nt look around and see one or more trawlers trawling the area. What are they catching? Who checks up on them? What damage are they doing to the breeding stocks? Lets take Hairtail for example. I don't know of a lot of Hairtail caught in the area this season. I've been told there used to be heaps of them in the old days. Now if trawlers are getting them on the way in what chance is there for them to spawn properly. What about the future? Then they get nailed on the way out as well. As a rec fisherman I have seen an imbalance in the system being created in the last few years. There a far fewer birds hunting for food on their own than there used to be. They don't have to hunt they just follow the Trawlers. Yesterday I saw 15 odd pelicans at the boatramp begging. That can't be good. At Juno for example - there is an abundance of lice. Leave a bait down too long and it comes back covered. I have not got lice attacking the bait in other areas. Is this another imbalance. Has their natural predator bee wiped out? I don't have the answers but I see what is going on and I wonder how much more the magnificent Hawkesbury can take. I am a die hard fisho but I can see trouble coming for the Hawkesbury and I think we the fishermen both recreational and professional are playing right into the Greenies hands. Just my thoughts and observations inhlanzi

  15. Hey Wirlez For a 6500b - Wilson Live Fibre Texalium Spin 8-15Kg is a perfect but expensive +- ( $300 ) match. Have you considered the 3500 or the 4500? 6500Bs go for $190 to $250 - Shop around a bit first. Spool up with good quality braid 30-80lb depending on what you are after. In my opinion they are very good value for money reels. Hope this helps cheers inhlanzi PS King Rods one of the sponsors of the site makes very good rods too. Give Saqa a shout.
