  1. Thanks heaps that looks much more like it
  2. Mine was probably around the same size.. Although I caught it only a couple of months after I started fishing (which was when I was too scared to touch the fish, let alone take it off the hook lol).. How times have changed now though! I only noticed the teeth after when I was looking at the photos
  3. Yep, definitely the same! It was really pretty.. So vibrant. The photos do them no justice at all. Mine went bak also.. All my fish do though lol
  4. Quite true that ill just pencil it in for now and correct it later if need be! It's only for my personal use anyway.. Just so I can see all my catches in one place. That's so awesome you've kept a record over all those years. Very true about the cameras these days making it easier... I've got some we managed to lose though shits me! I'm hoping the memory card shows up eventually.. It was nothing spectacular but did have my 1st ever flattie on it
  5. Most look different, but some are very similar. I thought perhaps it were a juvenile or something.. But yeah, having only started fishing just over a year ago I have no idea!
  6. Thanks.. That's where I got my initial info from also. Just curious now because of the vertical stripes. It was quite vibrant looking.. The stripes were more red (rather than the brown the photo shows) from memory
  7. Anyone able to ID it? I'm really curious now
  8. Oh if it helps anyone to ID it.. It was caught at Woy Woy (just down from the fishermen's wharf)
  9. Thanks for that Yowie.. Glad I asked
  10. Can anyone please verify for me? I'm making a photo book of my catches so just want to be sure
  11. Thanks 4 the replies. Pinch and roll ill remember that! If that still fails ill look at a dough type recipe
  12. Thanks. I hadn't intended going there.. I'd moved on from Roseville and lane cove so wasn't really prepared. I'll definitely give the bread a go next time. I do have issues keeping it on the hook though! I've tried rolling it in a ball and threading the crust through but always falls apart do u wet it b4 rolling it into a ball? Is fresh or stale bread best?
  13. I was at deep creek a couple of weeks ago. There were mullet jumping everywhere as you described, but there were also schools of other fish (they didn't seem interested in my prawns at all). Would they have also been mullet? Or perhaps small tailor or something? I did surprisingly manage to hook my 1st luderick though (so at least that made up for the frustration of a creek full of fish that I couldn't hook)
  14. Thanks for that I'll definitely take a look at Roberta's post on the topic
  15. Nice work do blackfish take any other bait? Or just weed? And what kind of rig do u use? Is the pencil float people use just a visual aid or does your bait need to be right on the surface? Sorry bout all the questions.. Just never caught one so really curious!
  16. Thanks for the tuna and bread suggestion also I'll give it a go on my next outing
  17. Yeah I sure do. When I 1st started (Just over a year ago) my partner would do it for me. The bait I was ok with after being shown how. I did find it a bit weird and gross at 1st, but now I'm not phased at all .. I mainly use prawns, however did use worms (not live) the other week! I havent yet graduated to live bait (and dont know of i ever will). I only recently started rigging up my own line (mainly because I had to learn to tie knots lol). The main reasons for doing both of these though was being self reliant. I hated that when I snagged and had to snap the line or wanted to change sinkers etc I had to annoy my partner. I just love the satisfaction of doing it all on my own. It's weird to think that only a year ago I wouldn't touch the fish either .. Now its one of the best parts about the whole experience! Perhaps in time she might start doing it herself? Otherwise you could try getting some bait she will touch e.g cooked prawns. Not really sure what else to suggest. Good luck though
  18. Thanks Roberta .. You've been most helpful Now I'm just counting down the days until I go.. Can't wait. I'll definitely check out the tavern if I can also.. I'll have my puppy with me though, so will have to see. I only wish I could leave today!!!!
  19. Hi everyone, Heading to Nambucca Heads next week. Got a few questions for anyone who knows the area: 1. Is the v wall the entire break wall or just a section of it? 2. Are there flat rocks on the break wall? I'm pretty unco so am worried about landing any possible catches! 3. Are there any particular spots (land based) I should try? I'm staying at the white albatross .. Thanks
  20. thanks I tried that, but don't think I'd left myself enough braid to hold it tight. I'll see if it makes a difference next time. Otherwise I'll get someone else to hold whilst I cut
  21. thanks that's really all I need to cut (the ends of where I connect the braid to leader). I'd tried learning an Albright knot, but it wasn't going so well. I decided to do a double uni knot as the uni is the only one I've yet mastered lol. I'll see if more loops makes a difference to the tension though, otherwise I'll just leave the end longer initially so I've got more to hold before trimming. I really wish I'd done scouts, or girl guides or something when i was younger!!!! Knot tying is definitely not my forte
  22. Thanks for the suggestions. I've just been holding it taut in the grooves then trying to cut. Perhaps it needs to go on top of a groove, rather than in it. I dunno, never thought cutting something would be this complex lol. Otherwise I'll give the normal scissors a go using the 'pushing technique'. I'm bound to find something that works eventually
  23. Just wanted to say thanks again. I used my new braid for the 1st time today and after the 1st cast I was totally impressed.. It's amazing I'll definitely be sticking with it! Only problem I have is cutting/trimming. I got some shimano braid scissors. Is there some kind of trick to them though? Or have I just picked crap ones? Lol
  24. I was wondering the same as it used to have 'no fishing' painted on it.
  25. Are there disadvantages with using a heavier line? With the mono I'd normally get the highest my rod is rated to (which I think is 12lb), so was thinking of the 10lb power-pro. Also, what is your preferred way to spool it? I've read about 3 options: a layer of mono, electrical tape on top of the 1st layer of braid and the arbor tape (although not entirely clear on how that works). Thanks again
