  1. Thanks.. That's what I thought. So it's not a specific measurement or rating etc though? Would there be a big size difference between a 2500 and 4000 at all (I'm looking at upgrading my shimano baitrunner)... I checked the actual reel weight and its hardly anything. I've only got a rod rated at 2-4kg though (a t-curve 702xl)
  2. Hi. Can someone please tell me what the numbers that are at the end of the reel model mean? E.g 2500, 4000. Does it give an indication of their size in some way? I tried googling and came up with nothing! Thanks in advance
  3. Thanks - I'll look into those still waiting on my money anyway so not like I don't have time to decide lol
  4. Thanks If it were just me I definitely would but my partner has a stack of experience with all things boating (except being able to choose one). He will be handling all that and ill be doing the fishing We are now contemplating used though if we can get a good enough saving. Hopefully our money comes thru soon though cos I can't wait to get out on the water!
  5. Thanks.. Yeah I realised today you could get biminis for the front so am now even more undecided as I think I want a bowrider again lol.. Decisions decisions
  6. Thanks for the reply. We were initially thinking of a bowrider but then decided we'd prefer some protection from the elements. You do make a valid point though
  7. And not sure if it makes any difference but I'd mainly bait fish still, although probably start experimenting with some plastics and hard bodied lures eventually too!
  8. Oh yeah, damn.. Thought I had it all covered I'm more than happy just to explore rivers, bays and lakes. I've only been on a boat once (in my entire life), so it'll take a bit of getting used to. I really just want something comfortable and stable that will get me into the better water and away from the crowds on land! And the tow vehicle is a kj jeep cherokee, so don't think we will have any trouble at all with that aspect.
  9. Hi everyone, I'm looking at buying my first boat and stuck on what would best suit! My head is swarming with info. It's just my partner, myself and my puppy so have been looking at something around 4.5-5m. We are hoping to buy brand new and aim to spend between $20 - $30 000. So far I really like the look of the quintrex 481 coast runner. Also tossing up the idea of a half/cuddy cabin because my partner doesn't fish and thinks it could be comfier at times to lay in there rather than just sit in the seat! Any advice or suggestions would be most appreciated
  10. Yeah I'm having the same annoyance with tapatalk!
  11. Can either of u recommend a good brand of circle hooks? And is that what they actually say on the pack? Also what size would you generally use to target bream of this size? Oh and one last question.. Do u still strike/set the hook when using these?
  12. And I was just down from the caravan park (away from the entrance to the lake)
  13. Well it was so weird.. 1st off a porcupine fish, then a couple of baby snapper, a just legal bream, a tailor of approx 25cm and then lastly a flattie that woulda been over 50cm. I've always found flatties to be a dead weight so had no idea what this one was cos it was starting to take line! But yeah, considering I've always found narrabeen really boring it was quite a shock lol
  14. Thanks heaps for that.. I only had an hour or 2 of daylight left yesterday so figured I'd head to somewhere I knew and save pittwater for another day. And I'm still in shock! I caught more fish at narrabeen in that 2 hrs than I ever have lol
  15. Is anywhere near the flying fox park etc any good?
  16. Does anyone have suggestions of decent spots around newport area at all? I'm having no luck at narrabeen lately so hoping to try somewhere else with better results
  17. Lol thanks so much for that I just feel a bit silly posting such basic stuff.. But considering I knew absolutely nothing less than 2 years ago I guess it's not too bad! That makes a lot more sense about the shape difference between tarwhine and bream, thanks so far I think I've caught one tarwhine. Just gotta have a better look at all my pics now
  18. Ahh I see. I knew of black and yellowfin, although didn't realise some bream had stripes. Thanks now all I have to do is learn to differentiate between bream and tarwhine lol
  19. Have a look at Gunther's Wrasse.. I caught the same at Woy Woy
  20. Can someone please tell me what this is? I thought it was a bream, until I realised they don't normally have the stripes I caught it at Balmain today and also realised I've caught one previously at greenwell point
  21. Ahh.. Is it just a website? Or should I be able to find an app?
  22. Thanks.. I can't find it in the App Store though?
  23. Thanks for that I'll see if I can find anything for free that does the job, otherwise ill give it a go. I find all maps drain battery really bad. I make sure I close google/apple maps straight away when I'm done for that reason lol
  24. Hi. Just wondering if anyone knows of other good apps that allow you to see a satellite image? I fish land based and used to use google maps to try and gauge where the drop offs, deeper water was etc. With the upgrade to apple maps though the view of the water doesn't seem as detailed
