  1. Just had report come in from management that he's out of surgery after receiving 386 internal and external stitches and is know in a stable condition.

    We crane, cut, machine blocks of glass weighing over 5 tonne on a daily basis and at anytime something can go drastically wrong.

    Safety, safety, safety I can't say it enough.

  2. It's been a horrible day at work today as a fellow workmate has had a horrendous accident involving a block of glass falling on him weighing 3150kg causing a huge laceration across his face and back and is now in intensive care at st vincent hospital.

    A group of us just came back from there and his situation is very critical.

    He is a 34 year old man with 2 daughters and a wife.

    There is a investigation going on at the moment to find the root cause of this incident.

    What ever field of work anyones in please take care and think through your actions.

    In one of the photos you'll see his hardhats final resting place.

  3. Correct, Here's the rest of the pics with the bearing cup installation tool that I normally use.

    There's many things I make and many ways to do things and this tool is one of them, I have a variety of adapters for it to suit different diameter bearing cups.

    Another way if you dont have the tool is grind the outside of your old bearing cups down slightly so they are easy to remove when you've used it to drive the new cups home.

  4. Just got done doing a bearing job on a trailer for a guy who was recommended to see me

    Cheap bearings were used for a start.

    Spindle nut was done up extremely tight.

    Rear bearing race was not driven all the way home when installed and at an angle which would have been the cause for the crack in pic.

    Bearings were not packed properly, only grease smeared on outside.

    No grease inside hub at all.

    When I questioned owner he told me he watched youtube to learn how to do it himself and gave it a go.

    I've watched the video and can tell you that the you tuber has alot to learn and is putting peoples life in jeopardy.

    Be VERY, VERY careful who/what you believe when it comes to anything involving doing repairs such as brakes, bearings where everyones safety is vital.

    Any way I did the job for him on one wheel while I explained/showed him the correct way of doing things and the importance of quality bearings.

    Then I told him to repeat the process on the otherside while I supervised.

    He offered to pay but I declined knowing that i've taught him how to avoid killing his or someone elses family.

    Lets just say he's a very happy camper.

  5. You know what's funny mate?shore based anglers generally try casting as far out into the deepest water they can find and boat based anglers generally try to cast as close to the shore as possible.How ironic.

    Don,t be mislead by fishing shows etc that you need this gear for this and that.

    For shore based angling you can spend as much or as little as you like.

    A 7 foot light outfit rod matched to a 2500 reel spooled with 3 or 4 kg line is just about perfect(you don't need to cast a mile alot of people miss good fish due to this)

    It will catch you plenty of the usual table fish...whiting,flatys,bream etc.

    I'm not familiar with areas that you are planning on fishing,but almost anywhere Is worth a try with some structure around such as weedbeds,chanels,dropoffs,jetties,etc.

    Always use the best baits you can gather/buy if baitfishing with good presentation.

    Use good knots.

    Always use burley.

    Keep your rig as light as possible to suit conditions.(you will get more bites)

    Fish the tides.

    Ask tackleshop staff plenty of questions and on forums and with fellow fisherman when out fishing.

    Stick to size limits.

    Enjoy quality time with your partner when out whether your catching anything or not.

    If you do catch a couple of keepers and you see a young bloke fishing and not catching,offer him a fish/left over bait,you'll be the best thing since sliced bread in his little mind and win some brownie points with the mrs.

    The only way I can think of that there's a 100 percent chance that I'm not catching anything is when I'm not fishing.

    Anytime I am,there's ALWAYS a chance.

    The car was an Au falcon,no idiot light.

    It only had a big tempreture gauge in the instrument cluster infront of the driver.

    Perhaps I should have offered to install a setup with 1000 volt directly wired to a all metal drivers seat to get his attention in the event of a overheat.

    The only minor issue can think of is maybe the driver would be in a rather overheated condition himself.lol.

  7. No worries mate,another thing Is always lower your anchor over the side smoothly, don,t just throw it over in a big lump as the chain/rope can tangle around the anchor which will prevent the flukes from digging in.

  8. What you have should be plenty,If you want you can upgrade the chain to whatever thickness you like eg:10mm but try letting out more rode first.

    It sounds like your not letting out enough to suit the conditions causing the flukes not to bite in to the seabed.

    The more Wind,Current,Swell,Depth

    The more rode you need to let out to get the correct lay on the rode/chain to allow the anchor to set correctly.

    2.5 meter 8 mm s/l chain

    100 m of 10 or 12mm silver rope.

    Let enough scope out to suit conditions and you will have no dramas.

  10. Paikea, it's been over 10 years that I made them for him and the boat is now long gone.

    It worked a treat and was a huge selling point at the time of sale.

    The only blue prints I have is in my mind as I hadn't taken photos at the time.

  11. I like making things multi purpose, my burley pot has 2 screw on adapters... one for the frozen burley in pics that I set at what ever depth in the water required, one live bait adapter screws on when needed.

    No holes, no mess no fuss.

    But if you still want to mount it go the starboard side.

    I once made a mate a press to cut up blocks of pillies at once and a catapult to feed them out on a timer from anywhere from every minute to every 10 minutes.

  12. Always buff and polish your boat,car etc before you take it to a spraypainter to match the colour which will remove all the years of oxidization prior to any repainting of any kind to get a true colour read.

  13. Went down to windang this morning with the wife and son on my rdo after months of no fishing.

    We fished the last of the runup down to low tide with hardly any bites, we tried several baits, lures, spots.

    There are still plenty of boats around which the whole time we were there I didn't see anyone catch something decent.

    It was quite windy which also didn't help.

    The only keeper caught was a nice little flatty of 48cm caught by my son on a pilly tail which I just ate with chips and a salad.

    The other few we caught were undersize bream, whiting, flathead and lost a couple more.

    All in all it was great to be back on the water with my family sharing a few laughs.

    Beats working hands down.

  14. I always brain spike mine and bleed and gill where needed then put them in a esky with frozen bottles of seawater thats 1/4 filled with seawater.

    When I get home the fish are ice cold,and I take the fillets off and rinse in seawater which I brought home with me.

    I find catching saltwater fish and rinsing in fresh spoils them.

    My fish never touch freshwater from capture to plate.

  15. Car is back on the road, cause of engine overheat was due to a failed waterpump bearing, which lead to shredded fan belt and head gasket failure due to overheat.Total cost $570.
