  1. Hi all Is fish from picnic point out to the bay and would like to catch some squid. I'm not after anyone's secret locations, just some tips of what to do and where to go. I can only fish during to day due to family commitments Thanks in advance
  2. No this is all non standard, I have ordered a new filler from BLA with a 90degree bend in it, hopefully this will help minimise the S bend
  3. More info: http://www.epa.nsw.gov.au/epamedia/EPAMedia15021801.htm http://www.smh.com.au/environment/water-issues/mystery-chemical-triggers-massive-fish-kill-in-georges-river-20150218-13ihxu.html
  4. Thanks for the suggestions, it is as I suspected... Where would I get the 90 deg bends that are suitable for fuel? Any chance of a 90deg that screws directly onto the tank?
  5. Please have a look at this picture of my new petrol tank: The problem I have is I can only half fill the tank before petrol comes out of the filler hose. I have disconnected the breather from the tank so the hole in the top of the tank is open and it does the same thing. My guess at an easy solution is to move the filler cap so it is directly over the inlet to the tank hence avoiding the s trap arangment I am forced to have (very tight clearance), but this will leave an ugly hole on the outside of my boat which I would like to avoid. Any suggestions appriciated. Thanks
  6. I have a 30hp Tohatsu 2006 which I have owned since new and it goes great, never missed a beat. The electric start is a HUGE benifit, espically in cold weather at altitude or when it hasnt been run for a while, so I would recomend the Suzuki. One thing though. I chatted to another fisho on the nepean up the gorge who had a 30 Suzuki and it was noisy as buggery, even compared to my tohatsu, which is noisy to begin with!
  7. Just seen this posted of facebook, not many details but thought it may be of interest to those who fish up that way: https://twitter.com/NSW_EPA/status/567101578339815424/photo/1 http://www.epa.nsw.gov.au/epamedia/EPAMedia15021401.htm
  8. This weekend just gone (14/2/15) I got to go out twice! First on Friday arvo with my young bloke, we had a shakey start after I managed to snap the tip of my plastics rod (luckily I was able to fix easily) and lost a lure to the mangroves first cast, but we ended up with 3 fish including this flattie that went home for dinner. On Sunday we had a family day out which involved picnic lunch somewhere up near the mouth of Botany bay (not sure where, sorry). As it was low tide and a bit muddy no one wanted to go near the water so I just put a few casts out of the boat while it was tied to the jetty. Managed to get two flatties, one about the same size as the one in the pic and another about 20cm long. I only got about 1/2 an hours fidhing before the oncomming storm got the better of my nerves with a 9 month old and a 3 year old in the boat. The rain came down just as I tied the boat up at Revesby, and we all got drenched getting the kids in the car and the boat on the tralier, but all in all a good day was had. On another note it was very sad to see all the police at Revesby beach investigating what I later found out to be a person in the water been struck by a jet ski.
  9. Hi all I am considering upgrading from my current transom mount 40lb minn kota to a 55lb version with ipilot and bow mount. I have a few questions: 1) The design of my boat (4.3m runabout with a full canopy) makes it hard to mount the motor on the front, however the back transom has a large flat area making it easy to mount a bow mount motor at the back. Will the ipilot work correctly from the back of the boat? 2) I have come across a few motors like this one: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Minn-Kota-1363420-Riptide-SM-55-L-D-SC-42-Saltwater-Bow-Mount-Trolling-Motor-/171236841925?pt=Boat_Parts_Accessories_Gear&hash=item27de82d9c5&_uhb=1 They appear to be a normal transom mount motor clipped into a bow mount bracket? Would it be possible to reuse my 40lb in this way as it is a great little motor and is the right size for my boat and my batteries. 3) Are there any other brands out there that offer a similar GPS technology that I should consider? Between my Dad and I we have had 3 Minn Kota motors and have been very happy with all of them, so there would have to be a significant advantage to moving away from minn kota. Thanks in advance! Daniel
  10. I have heard that it is possible to change the pitch of a propeller? If so does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks
  11. Hi All Thanks for the comments, I decided yesterday to go with a 5hp Tohatsu as the factory had a special (that ended yesterday) that made the price too good to turn down. Daniel
  12. Hi All I have a 8 foot punt that I use to go to places like the Nepean away from the boat ramp (Camden, cobbity etc). I have been using a minn kota electric outboard presently but I would like to buy a petrol outboard. Obviously 6hp is the upper limit as I dont want to pay for boat rego, but I am fearful that a 6hp might just rip my poor little punt apart! Also as I dont have a trailer for this boat and I usually have to carry the boat a distance from the car to the water so light weight is good! What recommendations can people make? I am partial to Tohatsu's, having owned a few of them over the years but am open to other suggestions. I am planning to buy new, but would consider a few year old motor if anyone wants to sell one? Thanks Daniel
  13. Hi All I live quite close to the Duck River that runs from Silverwater through to Auburn. I was wondering if anyone has ever fished it? Carp? Mullet? perhaps even Bass?
  14. Hi All I have heard conflicting stories about fishing on Lake Wallace with electric motors. Does anyone know for sure? Anyone been there latley that cn comment on signs or otherwise? Cheers Daniel
  15. If your going to Jarvis, dont go far from the ramp!
  16. Thanks fellas, bummer about the frozen fly line on strike. I have found latley that the best fishing has been had heading from Anglers Reach to Bramear Bay and all in between. There always seems to be so many boats between Anglers and the Portal... That been said ive never done much winter flyfishing, I prefer o wait for the warmer weather!!
  17. People go to fish Lake Eucumbene to catch one of the monsters that she holds. Often an angler has to be content with hooking into only small fish, and this seemed to be the story of my trip. I started at dry dam spinning devils. I have been meaning to fish here for years, but never quite made it happen. Anyway after braking through the layer of ice surrounding the dams edge and loosing a devil by just catching the edge of the ice jutting out from the opposite shore, all I had to show for my efforts was one follow from a small fish... So at lunch time I deceided to head for 3 mile dam for a troll around. When I arrived at 3 mile, there was a family setting up a camp site, I went about launching my tinnie and started fishing. Now, I dont support or not support the shooters party legalising shooting in nationals parks, however while I was fishing I heard a number of guns shots comming from the campp site. I dont know what they were shooting or what with, but sitting in my tinnie with 0 protection, I felt very exposed... Perhaps the greenies have a point? Anyhow trolling was tough as half the dam was frozen. I tried ever lure in the box, I used attractors and then I didn't, still nothing. So at about 3PM I said, one last trip around and then home (wind was getting up and the temp had droped to 0). I threw a lure (dont even know what its called) behind an attractor and set off. 10 mins latter the tip of my rod bent over, bugger I've hit the bottom again I thought, but it kept going. I had a fish, I actually had a fish! A minute later I pulled a 26cm rainbow into the boat. I kept going and missed one more fish but with the temp droping and the wind comming up I deceided to head back to eucumbene for a bit of bait fishing under the stars. My tinnie is an 8 foot punt, and crusing across Eucumbene with only a 40lb Minn Kota in th dark really gives you a sense of how insignificant you really are... Anyhow, by the time I arrived it was pitch black, so I set up my bait rod in the dark while I steped of my net and broke it... So the bait od was out for about 10 mins and I was just about to start flicking lures around when I heard the can go over. As soon as I grabed the rod I new I was onto a decent fish, quite the fight ensued in the dark! But before too long I pulled a beautiful rainbow to 51cm up onto the bank. A just reward for a foolhardy journey? I rebaited my rod and went back to the lure casting, however it wasnt long before a mist rolled in and I thought better of driving an 8 foot punt across Lake Eucumbene in the dark... The next day I thought a bit more trolling was in order, so out came the punt again. Now normally when you hook into a fish like the rainbow above, thats your quota for now. But my frustrating attempts at catching bass in the nepean must have built up some credits as before long I landed this beautiful brown that was even bigger... I caught one more fish this weekend, a nice 35cm rainbow on bait. I did go trolling again yesterday morning before driving home and lost 3 fish at the boat... Ah well, I really cant complain. Lake Eucumbene has once again lived up to its reputation as Australia's top trout water!
  18. Hi Rob I have no problem at all with you taking those fish, I would have also. Daniel
  19. I find it interesting how some people on this board take fish and get slammed for it and we have an example here where 4 fish are taken from a river that has fish spawning in it and not a word... Not trying to start WW3, just an observation. Either way, top catch!
  20. Thanks for the info guys, Ill give both spots are try, but it might have to be after the season closeure
  21. I was hoping for something closer to the weir as thats near where I live. How close can you get your car to the water at Simmos beach?
  22. Hi All I wnt to have some sort of retractable transducer bracket for my tinny so I can slide it down banks without damaging the tranducer, anyone seen anything like this? Cheers Daniel
  23. Hi I have a small 8 foot punt car topper that I would like to use on the Georges river upstream of the weir. Can someone suggest a suitable place to launch it. I only need something like a kayak slide Thanks Daniel
