  1. I think the licenses would have to be combined first (which is quite likley to happen) then yea, loose one loose both
  2. So I will be heading out on the harbour Saturday arvo/night hoping to hook onto my first squid. I am armed with some high quality jigs as well as some bait jigs (once or twice when fishing with squid we have pulled up broken of tenticales). So can anyone suggest some good spots to try, perhaps by PM? Thanks Daniel
  3. What rpm is your 20hp doing at WOT? You want to be getting close to 6000rpm with min load, if not put a smaller prop on the 20hp before buying a new motor. PS if you put a 30 on your boat then your asking for trouble.
  4. Thankyou, my Friday just got that little bit easier!
  5. Thanks Luderick and Abecedrian, I have had trouble in the past with the catch and release crowd who beleive that killing any fish is a travisity punishable by death. The reality is that those guys will do as much damage to rec fishing long term as will the 'yobbos' who take fish with no regard to bag/size limits. I would support an increase in the min size of trout, 25cm is crazy they havn't even fully matured at that point and also a min size for EP and Bass.
  6. So what exactly is the yobbo element? I kepted 6 trout over the weekend from Eucumbene (amoungts two anglers) and have been known to keep bass from the nepean and other places for that matter. I dont ever go over bag limits, but have often got there and stoped as my understanding is that bag limits are set to keep rivers and dams healthy while still giving anglers a bit of a feed... So just so I know where I stand, does that make me a Yobbo? Thanks Daniel PS Although I consider it unlikley, wouldnt it be fantastic if trout did establish them self in the Nepean. If they work out how to get through the fish ladders I am sure they can breed up in the far reaches near Nepean dam. All depends if they can find the right gravel beds and the water temp drops enough for them to start swimming up stream. I understand that trout can tolerate high water temps as they will just go to ground and shut down, however they wont breed if the water temp dosnt drop sufficently.
  7. G'day Bundyrock Great time to get into trout fishing. With all the lakes rising or at capacity the fishing is quite good. Regarding lures, it depends on where your fishing and how. Most of my experience is fishing lures from the bank (spinning) so ill start there. My all time favourite lure is the rainbow trout immation Tassie Devil in the size one up from the smallest (most common one sold) They cast like bullets and always seem to fool fish that are on the prowl. After that any brightly colored celta works well or those sinking minnows with blades. I tend to like to always keep moving. The funniest fishing I ever had was watching my brother fly fishing the one piece of water for 3 hours to catch nothing. When he gave up and in order to prove a point I cast out 5 meters to his left and caught a fish then went five meters to his right and caught another. I even used his fly rod to do it! Best of luck Daniel
  8. Friday just passed Dad and I headed up to Anglers Reach on Lake Eucumbene for some trout fishing. After a long trip (Bobyean Rd closed, had to turn around and go back to Canberra then down the Monaro Hwy) we arrived at 10:30pm. Under the almost full moon I could see the glimmer of the Lake and it was clear already that the lake had risen some way since my last visit on the Australia Day weekend. The next morning we woke to some spectacular views. A quick check of the snowy hydro web site revealed that the lake had not been at this level since 2005. Most of the ugly rocky banks have now been covered and all the grass is green and lush. My guess is the lake has encroached 10m horizontally from a month ago. Any way time to cut the grass and clean up and go fishing after lunch! We decided to head to Braemar bay to troll around, although when we got there I decided to walk the bank with a spinning rod hoping that the trout would be in the newly covered water. Well, I should have stayed on the boat as it wasn’t more than 15 mins when Dad held up a rainbow of about 30cm. I walked all around, getting covered in the hundreds of spiders that have made for higher ground as the lake is rising… Interesting side point, I collected a few spiders about 15mm long that looked a lot like a red rebel ant, shame that lures discontinued but lucky I have a stash! Anyhow two hours later I hadn’t seen one fish, so we decided to go back for beer and bbq. Dad had caught one more rainbow to about 35cm. After dinner we headed back to the same area for some fly and lure fishing. When we arrived, there were three other boats all fly fishing. After a quick survey of the area and noting that no one had caught anything, I decided to stick with lure. After an hours casting I saw one fish rise quite away from the shore. Lucky I had a devil on as no other lure would have come close in casting distance. Two casts latter and I had him, but not without a fight! When he first hit he took 10m of line out, here was I thinking I had a monster, but it turned out that I hadn’t set the drag properly! He was a rainbow to 31cm, the only fish caught in that bay that night, proving once again that lure out fishes fly! Sunday morning we planed to head to the dam wall for a quick troll around before heading back to Sydney. Boat launched, motor ideling out while we don life jackets and take waders off. I go to straighten the wheel and open the throttle when the wheel goes loose and the boat turns a sharp left. Quick snap back to neutral and investigation reveals a broken steering cable. Bummer! But not the end of the day, down goes the Minn kota and we start trolling around anglers reach. Its not too long and we have had a hit, then another and finally a rainbow at around 30cm in the boat. We keep trolling for a little longer and the Minn kota stops! How much bad luck can we have? Heres where bright spark decides to disconnect the drag link from the outboard and drop the happy troller and keep going. Good idea in theory, right until you start to try and man handle a 60hp Yamaha 4 stroke. Even at 1000rpm she was hard to hand onto. All the effort was repaid though with a brown to 45cm and a rainbow at 40cm. When the wind picked up we left it as it became almost impossible to control the boat. So we knocked her up to 1500rpm then ran to the back of the boat with both of us hanging onto the outboard for grim death! Another BBQ lunch with a couple of beers and were off. Now heres where I’m glad I wasn’t driving, as we head out of Adaminaby a RBT waves us down. Dad had drunk two beers, as had I, and I knew he would be right at the limit. Luckily though the cop was more interested in talking about fishing then anything else! Luckily he blew under and we left for a slow but uneventful trip back to Sydney via Cooma.
  9. With the dam overflowing there may be some more trout caught in the nepean soon!
  10. My Fishing mate lives in Macquarie park, quite close to the M2 and Lane Cove Rd intersection, so I was wondering where the closest boat ramp into the river is from here? I only have a small tinny, so dont need anything flash Thanks Daniel
  11. Went out last night in the harbour trying to get onto some squid for a feed. I have never caught squid before, mostly a freshie. We went around from Kiribillie house right into all those bays casting our squid jigs (Mojiko brand) around weed, pylons, moored boats and rocks for nothing. We ended up giving up and bottom bashing for a couple of snapper and and white/brown thing with a nasty spike (cut the line and let it go!) So what are we doing wrong? At one point we were putting small free running sinkers in front of the jigs to get them down deeper in the strong current, but this didnt help either. Any advice would be greatly appriciated. Cheers Daniel
  12. Try Rhino Boat Covers, think hes in Leichardt but he is mobile Cheers

    ETEC's and E10

Could be wrong, but I seem to recal as part of the legeslation introduced 1/7/2011 that ethanol content in petrol only had to be declared if the content was greater than 10%
  14. Eucumbene has gone from the best I have seen in decades to the worst in a matter of weeks. Xmas to new year, my brother and father and I landed 48 fish in four days on a mixture of fly, mudeye and spinning. I was there over the long weekend just now and only managed to land 4 fish, two spinning devils and two on mudeyes. I did get busted off by a big one on the fly though. No one else was catching either. I have no proper explaniation. A lot of so called experts are running around saying it is too hot, however I have caught nice fish there in hotter weather then what we have had. It may have something to do with a rapidly rising lake stoping and holding steady for 2 weeks, I cant remember this happening in the past. Usually the lake rises then drops straight away bringing the yabbies closer to the edge which brings on the brown's, but not this time. All my fish were rainbows. That been said though, we fished the portal at XMas and got 3/5 of nothing, compare that to the other end of the lake... The fish are there, but with the proximity to anglers reach and the protected water between the two I think the fish there have just seen too many lures!
  15. Truly a beautiful part of the world down there. Wife and I always go there for our anaversery and i spend a day fishing while she goes shoping.I would love to go down there with a tinnie and a tent
  16. Spent last nignt and thismorning at Danjera and nothing. Threw everything in the box at them. Could clearly see the thermocline on the sounder and trolled with leadlines and divers to no avail. That place is really turning into a hit and miss afair, last trip we boated 5 fish, this trip 0! Of interest though, last night the dam was ragin over the spilway and the river was about an inch from Yalwal Rd, but this morning it had calmed down into its usual self, but the water is a lot cleaner than I remember it been. Also not as many Galaxias around, theories as to why?
  17. Sorry Huey, I read your reply and Klip's reply together and muddled myself. Either way the info there. FYI I paid $4000 for boat and tralier Cheers Daniel
  18. Hi All I am considering buying either the Quadrabeam or Wideside (not side imaging) transducer for my 728x. Has any one used either of these? I am interested in some feedback. Am I correct in thinking that Wideside is a poor mans side scan? I mainly fish fresh & salt estuarys and fresh lakes but sometime go into the harbour. Cheers Daniel
  19. G'day Huey http://www.aquabaymarine.com.au/product.asp?id=65&pid=15 Mine isnt painted, otherwise identical, but I did pay a lot less than that. Shes got a 2007 30hp Tohatsu with aftermarket trim and that pushes her to 43km/h. I fitted her out with a full canopy, fishfinder, transom mount minn kota and teleflex gauge set for about $10,000 (includes new price of motor and tralier). If your around my end of the world (lidcombe) let me know and you can have a sticky beak if interested. Cheers Daniel
  20. I recently did what you are planning, I had a 40yr old tinnie with a newer tralier and motor. The boat was coroding away before my eyes! I rung around all the boat dealers and all the hull only prices were far to expensive to justify. I ended up getting a really good deal on a hull & tralier from one of the chinese importers. I sold the tralier (nothing wrong, just too wide to fit in my carport) and have had the boat for a bit under a year now. The construction of the boat is fantastic, with lots of re-inforcments and big wide welds, it performs beautifuly and I couldn't be happier
  21. I have had some of my best fishing just before and during storms. Dosnt seem to matter how you are fishing either. The fish come on the bite when the weather turns
  22. Rhinoboat covers did canopy and clears for my runabout, $650 and a top job
  23. Hi Zook, can you tell me the water temp when you were there? Also were there many water skiiers? Thanks Daniel
  24. A lot of hype surrounding Stainless props. Big engines will begin to straighten out alloy props a bit at high speed hence the need for a stronger material. A 90hp wont do this. It is true, if you hit a rock with a stainless prop you have have a far greater chance of damaging gearbox/leg casing than with a alloy prop. With regards to your prop, bit hard to tell whats damaged from the pics but unless there is a serious bend just file of the rough edges and try it. If you loose top speed/the prop cavitates have it repaired. Many boat places will be able to/recomend someone to weld it up.
  25. Hi all, thanks for the replies. I have just found the receipt and rung them back. They have offered me a replacement color sounder for $550, cant remember the model but it is $200 cheaper than BCF. Not bad you might think until you realise that you only get the sounder. All the brackets and the transducer carry over from the earlier model and on top of that you only get 6months warranty! Hardly what I would call an 'unbeatable and unmatchable price' I have half a mind to send a complaint to fair trading about it, but then again what do I have to gain? I think I just get a better humminbird.
