  1. By the way you and Luke going to head south and chase some of those YFT's this year?
  2. Nice one Dinoz! It was good to see you catch a Tuna on our weekend away.
  3. Ok guys stop complaining and make a change Here is what fisherman and friends of fisherman can do to stop this. Forget about mass petititions from all over the state. They don’t work as we have all found out. To influence the minister to not bring in this new money grabber it will come down to the people in his municipality to make the difference. They are the ministers constituents which means that he cares more about what 10 of them say than what 1000 others from the state say. If you live in the Heathcote area which is from Bulli to Bundeena and Heathcote your man Paul Mcleahy is going to be the one putting signature to paper. Here is a link to the area http://www.paulmcleay.com.au/About So in effect it's going to fall on your shoulders to put a stop to this plan for the whole state! Big ask but I'm sure you and your local friends are up to it. To have an effect the minister needs to know that this issue will affect his personal re-election. If he gets 10,000 letters from people all over the state he will not care, they won’t be voting for him. But if he gets voters from his local area sending letters and even better seeing him in person to raise their objections he won’t be taking this action. His address is below Shops 1 & 2 17 - 23 Station Street Engadine NSW 2233 What you need to do is go there, by yourself or with your friends and ask to speak to him about your concerns, be civilized by all means though guys. Let him know that if he votes on this issue you will vote against him in the next election. Make it known to him that your family and friends will also vote the same. This is the best way to lobby the minister responsible. Guys if you know anybody in the municipality call them up and let them know. If you don’t own a boat and live in that area please still go. In the future land based fisherman might need the support of boaters and we should all work together. It’s only by standing together that we can stand up for our rights. To win this particular fight the members of Heathcote are going to need to step up.
  4. Guys the petitions and lobbying should not stop with just clifton gardens. Fishraider in my opinion is in a unique position with a large group of active members and can make a huge difference to the fight for the rights of fisherman. This forum can take an active role in educating fisherman on the issues we ALL face with fishing. Just cause your spot isn't affected now means nothing. We all back each other up wether its a planned marine park in sydney, Jervis Bay or Nelson Bay. Do you think these radical green movements go to the places we all fish? No they don't, they get told to vote for this as its good and us fisherman are evil and they vote. Fishraider members if able to sign a petition to support pro fishing policies would show the politicians that we are here to stay and hopefully sway there vote a little bit. By linking up with groups like ANSA so much good could be done for fisherman. However we need to make a stand as one and fight as one. If we are devided we will fall, together we will show that these radical green policies are not for Australia! Fishraider admin need to take a good look at this and become more pro active, if not in the future this forum might need to be called something else. Maybe "used to be able to fish in NSW forum" or "sorry you can't fish there anymore kids" forum. How are YOU going to be able to explain to your kids that you can't fish anywhere good anymore because you were too lazy to do something about it when you could?
  5. I know the boat your talking about from lbg fishing and can confirm that they are in fact tools! Without the spearguns they would be nothing! Ok i'm going to stop now before i get really heated.
  6. Hi everyone. Here's some correspondence from Recreational Fishing Alliance of NSW. Hi all, We are getting done (big time) in the poll asking if fishing should be banned at Clifton Gardens wharf ! This is potentially going to spread to other wharfs in Sydney Harbour then other wharves in NSW!! The recent workshop at Canada Bay clearly indicated they want to piss fishers off out of their area! Mal is doing a great job to prevent this so we need help - that means numbers! Please circulate - we need fishers support!!! - BIG TIME!! http://mosman-daily.whereilive.com.au p.s make sure to vote NO
  7. I agree with all the above, accept what Nick said lol, p.s nice catch today mate, great work on it and i hope it eats well dude. One bit of advise with LBG reels is to get the best you can afford, however its not a cheap sport and its ot an easy sport either. Be prepared for long days of waiting and waiting and waiting a bit more. However there are rewards, the things you see and experience on the rocks even without getting a fish are worth coming back for again and again!
  8. Guys i used to own a 10ft Traverse X overhead casting rod years ago and i got rid of it for some stupid reason. I was hoping to get another one again but theyb don;t make them anymore. I was wondering if anybody here had one that they wanted to part with or if they knew anybody that had one that might want to part with it? Thanks for all your help in advance guys.

    Big Catch

Yeah mate call up fisheries and let them know about it. Something like that is a pretty big deal as it will keep killing and killing and it needs to be removed / investigated. Call them up mate its 100% the right thing to do.
  10. I have some experience with inflating one of the shoulder ones that your talking about. I accidently inflated it when trying to take it off and I can assure you that once inflated you are not going to sink! They are excellent as there is a lot of inflation and it'll keep you afloat 100%. However once inflated you won;t be able to duck under waves or swim well at all. Most people that go in the drink are conscious so in theory they can swim away from the rocks, then you can inflate the PFD when your a safe distance away. arrives. I'm not sure of the bumbag ones as i have never used them. One thing i can say is don;t get the water activated ones. Get a manual activation one. If you get a good wave on the rocks it will activate and you'll waste the gas bottle. If you go in and you need to duck under a wave you can't if its inflated already and you'll crush up against the rock. Thats where the never fish alone part comes into it, no use floating away if nobody knows where you are. Also 30m of rope is handy to have as it can be throan to somebody in danger. I always bring my water in a 4 litre water bottle that has a handle. If needed it can be partially filled with water and tied quickly to the rope and thrown to somebody before they end up in New Zealand. Guys you can get 30m of rope from bunnings for $10 and it may save you or your mates life. get it and learn to use it.
  11. What Rainbow Runner? Never heard of such a fish, I hear they gets heaps of other fish at Bassy though, heaps big bonito as well. LOL you criminal! Hey what you doing this weekend, you heading out?
  12. LOL Not this story again. I heard they were at Bassy?
  13. Whatever you criminal! You doing any fishing this weekend. I'll be fishing that spot that jack fishes at a lot on Saturday. I reckon there might be some reds and kings around lol
  14. I see people using much heavier line than me getting busted off left right and centre. I here people saying the get busted off by bonnies, what the???? I have landed 3 kilo bonnies on 6lb line. Mate go lighter, 6lb line and fish still shallow water for some amazing results. You'll learn to fight fish properly as well, just make sure to set your drag right and use a good leader. I like fluro in 10-12lb. After a while when you start pulling 40cm bream consistently fron 1m of water on 6lb line. as your starting off i'll give you some more advice, pick a species and stick to it till you get them worked out.
  15. I have witnessed people look at us waving, look at the balloon and then drive right over our belly! I had more written but decided that i better not continue with this rant in a public forum. However if you see me and still drive over my belly i will be offended by your behaviour. Enough said on the topic from me, i have heaps of stories to tell if you ask me on the stones. If you bring cold beer i have even more stories
  16. What i do when running a balloon is to run the ezy rig but take the metal off it. I tie it on to the ezy rig with as short a leader of mono as possible. if you can keep it to 5mm thats the best but up to 3-4cm is ok. This should work ok.
  17. Nothing like a kingie Jason, more like a spaniard really.
  18. Bad form in my books to reveal the location of somebody else's fish when they specifically said they didn't want it revealed mr Bangus.
  19. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Mate i like my balls way too much, i was running 10kg of drag on that thing and the thing was over 8ft long, 40cm wide at the head and over 100kg at point blank range! What is it with me hooking BIG sharks! Hey mate that leader i had on i was very impressed with! It stood up to all that time in the sharks mouth and only popped when i busted to overstrike at about 15kg and held on and shook the line to get th shark to bite off. I put it on the BG and i got 3 king on it, throw back, 67 and 70cm and i think it was what done the trick with the hook ups. Looked up those lures as well, best i could find is $15 and they look HOTTER on the net than in real life lolol. Good to see you again mate, will try and do it again soon Might head to where the longtails might be for a day this weekend............................
  20. Mate bonito arn't the hardest fish to catch. They are pretty stupid most of the time and you getting one will usually depend on if there are any around. In saying that it seems you may be using the wrong lures for them. Most spinning from the rocks is done by using high speed lures or bibbed lurues. I personally like twisty 25-35 grams, busted 45's, 45 gram raiders in the metals and Xraps, Xraps and Xraps for the bibbed lures. Spin the metals fast and run the xraps slower and twitchy. Also with the line and leader you don't need to go overboard at all. 6-10kg line maximum for bonnies with 20-30lb leader. However with the small candy bonnies up to about 1kg we go down to 3kg line and 12lb leader and have some fun on them. Now go get your bonnies and after you hook your first king, see your first tuna or marlin you'll rarely bother with bonnies unless you get bored, need bait or have been on a rock for a few days and need to something for the curry. As for location, well its not that important, they are getting bonnies from Foster to Batemans bay in big numbers and some good sized ones mixed in as well.
  21. It didn't put up as much fight as a king about the same size Ray, only went about as hard as a 70cm king or so and they kick a bit but come up pretty quick. Lighthouse it tasted really good, very nice meat i must say, firmist meat i ever filleted which made it very easy. Meat had a nice pinky reddy tinge to it as well but cooked up super white and flakey! Good old yakka was the bait.
  22. Hi Guys and Gals I enjoy looking at the pics up here from all with their catches and i noticed a lot of new guys talking about boats and boats etc etc. To those that know me i'm a dedicated LBG fisho and love my rock fishing with a passion. I wanted to show you guys my catch from the weekend that surprised the hell out of me and a lot of my mates. It was caught of a rock ledge very close to Sydney and was caught on a live bait set wide. Caught on 15kg and didn't up too much of a fight on 15kg and 7kg drag. But the catch was rewarding due to the rarity of getting something like this in our neck of the woods. And to do it from my beloved stones makes it all the better. Please don't ask me the exact ledge, it wouldn't matter anyway as these fish are travellers, whats more important for the newbies is knowing what ledge to fish when. I just wanted to show some of the newer guys that with the right know how and practise what can be done from the shore. Enjoy the pic.
  23. Mate have you been going to all these places by yourself every weekend and still haven't got a bonnie?
  24. I agree with Brickman here. They are not illegal but most deffinately not worth it. My mate got a port jackson about 1.3 m long and about 15kg kilo's in weight. He opted to gaff it and we tried to clean it up and get the meat. I felt sick doing it as we got about 2-3kg of usable meat of it! I swore never to kill one again. EVER! To this day i haven't and also agree that a blind shark is also probably better of being let go. However its your call, if its legal and you want to give it a go, go for it and let us know how they go. You never know those blind sharks might be top notch. P.J's though, really not worth it at all.
  25. Mate before you put braid on it you better make sure the guides can handle it. Also i wouldn't put braid on it even if i could, but thats my preference.
